Suspects in Stolen Vehicle Crash through Yards of Several Residences in NE Bend

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office - 04/24/18

On April 23, 2018, at approximately 8:33 pm, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen from the Shell Tumalo Country Store. The owner of the vehicle told dispatchers his silver 2001 Subaru Impreza had just been stolen while left running in front of the store.

A few minutes later, a deputy spotted the stolen Subaru on the area of 3rd Street and Empire Avenue in Bend.  He followed the Subaru eastbound on Empire Ave., then north onto Layton Avenue, and then east onto Boulderfield Avenue.  The stolen vehicle then quickly sped away from the deputy eastbound.  The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the stolen vehicle.  The stolen vehicle failed to yield and continued to accelerate away.  Due to the deputy being in a residential area, he reached a top speed of approximately 30 MPH while the suspect vehicle quickly sped away and out of sight.  The deputy deactivated his lights and siren and did not give chase due to the residential area and risk to the community.

The deputy continued in the last know direction of the stolen vehicle on Boudlerfield Avenue.  Near the intersection of Boulderfield Ave and Black Powder Lane, the deputy again found the stolen vehicle after it had lost control and crashed through several front yard fences and nearly struck a residence.

The deputy observed two subjects, a male and female, walking away from the scene and a nearby citizen confirmed they were the occupants of the vehicle.  The deputy gave verbal commands at both subjects to stop and get on the ground and at the same time advised other nearby citizens to move away from the two suspects.  The male refused to follow commands and had his hands concealed near his front waistline.  The male took off running towards a large construction site in the area.  The female did comply with the deputies commands and did stop and lay down on the ground.  She was handcuffed and detained without further incident.

The female was identified as Ashley Bingenheimer and the male was identified as Christopher Aviles, both from Bend. Aviles left the scene on foot and is still outstanding. Bingenheimer was transported by the Bend Fire Department to St. Charles in Bend for non-life threatening injuries.

It was determined Bingenheimer was driving the vehicle at the time it was stolen and while the deputy was attempting to stop the vehicle. Bingenheimer conspired with Aviles to steal the vehicle and Aviles was the front passenger. Bingenheimer was cited in lieu of custody at St. Charles in Bend.

Aviles is still outstanding and being sought by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Deschutes County non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
