Armed Robbery in Troutdale - 05/07/18

Troutdale - 05/07/18

On May 6, 2018 around 11:15 p.m., MCSO responded to a report of a robbery at the Safeway gas station on Cherry Park Road in Troutdale. Two suspects, wearing masks and armed with a handgun and a knife, robbed the gas station attendants as they were shutting down for the night, and then fled in a vehicle. A description of the vehicle was provided to deputies and a short while later a vehicle matching the description was located getting onto eastbound I-84 from Troutdale. Deputies initiated a pursuit in an attempt to stop the vehicle. During the pursuit, the vehicle started traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-84. Deputies paralleled the vehicle from the eastbound lanes in an effort to get in front of, and stop the vehicle, to mitigate any danger to the travelers on the interstate. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle and began searching the area.
Approximately an hour later, a MCSO deputy found the suspects’ abandoned vehicle on SE Bull Run Road in Clackamas County. MCSO, with assistance from Oregon City Police, Sandy Police, and Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies, began a search of the area near where the abandoned vehicle was located. During the search, deputies and officers located the two suspects about 20 yards off the road. Both suspects initially refused to surrender and tried to flee into a heavily wooded area. A Clackamas County K-9 was deployed to track the suspects. One suspect surrendered and was taken into custody quickly. The second suspect was located about 25 yards further into the woods and was taken into custody a short while later.
The two suspects were identified as JOSHUA VAUGHN MILLER, age 36, and SANDRA DEE MILLER, age 38.  Both suspects were lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on outstanding warrants.  The investigation into this incident is continuing, and additional charges may be filed against the MILLERS at a later date.
Upon reviewing the reports following this incident, Sheriff Mike Reese noted that the public safety professionals involved demonstrated exemplary police work. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office appreciates the tenacity and dedication of our responding deputies, as well as our inter-agency partners, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon City Police Department, and the Sandy Police Department, for maintaining the safety of our community.
