K9 Valli, handler recovering after injuries sustained while apprehending robbery suspect

Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office - 05/09/18

At about 12:40 a.m. on May 7, 2018, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies and Sheriff's Office K9 Valli assisted the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office in a search for two armed robbery suspects, Joshua Vaughn Miller and Sandra Dee Miller.

Deputies and K9 Valli searched for almost two hours before locating suspect Joshua Vaughn Miller, 36, hiding down a steep, heavily wooded hillside off of SE Bull Run Rd just outside of Sandy.
Joshua Miller reportedly grabbed K9 Valli, got on top of her and pushed her down, injuring the animal.
The suspect then started fighting with the K9 handler and other deputies, striking the handler in the face.
The suspect was ultimately detained. K9 Valli and her handler were injured.
K9 Valli was transported to VCA Animal Hospital for evaluation. Valli was later released and remains under observation at home. She did not appear to have any major injuries and is expected to continue resting at home for the next few days.
Valli's handler was also taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released for his injuries.
K9 Valli is a 2- year-old Dutch Shepherd. She is a cross-trained K9 for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. She’s been working full-time with the Sheriff's Office since October 2017.
