Reported suicidal subject takes own life during traffic stop

On 05/13/2018 at 1:19am, officers were dispatched to the area of Donna Dr. & Corinne Dr. in Newberg, regarding a suicidal subject walking in the neighborhood. The subject was reported to be armed with a firearm and under the influence of alcohol. Officers looked for the person to assess a potential danger to the public or to offer assistance to the individual. It was then reported the person was leaving the neighborhood in a vehicle. At 2:09am, Newberg-Dundee officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to contact the subject inside. The vehicle initially failed to stop for the patrol vehicles but then abruptly stopped on Hwy 219 south of E. 2nd St. Attempts were made to communicate with the driver but within two minutes of initial contact, a single gunshot occurred from inside the vehicle. A sponge munition was deployed to break a vehicle window so officers could more safely see inside. The driver was then found deceased inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The individual has been identified as 40 year old, Alexander J. Guidry. There were no other injuries reported and there was no exchange of gunfire with police.
