Suspect Arrested Near Portland Meadows After Attempting to Elude Police in a Stolen Car

On Wednesday May 9, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m., North Precinct officers spotted a stolen car being driven in the area of North Vancouver Way and 6th Drive. Officers got behind the vehicle without using their lights and the driver sped away.

The Portland Police Bureau Air Support Unit was in the area and assisted ground officers by maintaining visual contact with the vehicle as the driver circled the area, ultimately stopping in the parking lot for Portland Meadows. The driver ran from the vehicle and Air Support provided information on the direction of travel for the suspect.

Officers arrived at the scene and, assisted by a Canine Unit, located the suspect on the Portland Meadows property where he was taken into custody.

The suspect, 39-year-old Michael Thomas Lovett, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Lovett is also being held on a parole violation.
