Suspect Identified in Officer-Involved Shooting

The suspect in Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting on N.E. Montgomery St., 21-year-old Brandon P. Syharath, was lodged in the Washington County Jail this evening after being discharged from the hospital.  Syharath is charged with attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault, assaulting a public safety officer, unlawful use of weapon, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree theft, unlawful entry into motor vehicle, and second-degree criminal trespass.

While officers originally responded to a report of a burglary-in-progress, it was determined Syharath was associated with the residence and the crime of burglary did not occur. 

The names of the officers involved in the incident will not be released at this time.

The investigation by the Washington County Major Crimes Team is ongoing.
