Terrebonne woman swerves to avoid deer, crashes into irrigation canal

Driver: De Latorre, Mary - 45 year old woman -Terrebonne, Or

Vehicle: Black 2004 Chevy Trailblazer

On 05/29/2018 at 04:58 hours, Deschutes County 911 received a call from a motorist who reported a vehicle had run off the road and into the irrigation canal at the location.

Deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriffs Office and Redmond Fire Department personnel responded and located a black Chevy Trailblazer which was submerged in the canal up to its wheel wells, with De Latorre still inside.

Redmond Fire personnel attached a cable to the Trailblazer to keep it from moving in the swiftly flowing canal.

Redmond Fire Department personnel then used a ladder, placed in the driver’s window, to allow De Latorre to crawl across to the bank.

De Latorre was uninjured but transported to Saint Charles Medical Center - Redmond for evaluation.

The southbound lanes of Highway 97 were closed for approximately 45 minutes.

The Oregon Department of Transportation and Redmond Police Department assisted with traffic control.
