Fatal crash Hwy 34 east of Waldport

On Saturday, June 2, 2018 at about 6:13am, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a two vehicle, head on  traffic crash on SR Highway 34 near milepost 7.5, near Tidewater.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 2002 Toyota Prius, operated by Lillian FAWCETT, age 20, from Waldport, was traveling westbound on SR Highway 34.  A white 2016 Ford F650 tow truck, operated by Michael MILLER, age 49, from Newport, was eastbound.  The Toyota Prius entered the oncoming lane for an unknown reason and struck the tow truck head on.  The Toyota Prius came to rest on the westbound shoulder against an embankment facing west.  The tow truck came to rest in the center of the highway facing east.
FAWCETT died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
MILLER was not injured in the crash and has been cooperative during the investigation.
Traffic was affected on SR Highway 34 for approximately 6.5 hours following the crash.  OSP was assisted by Central Coast Fire and Rescue, Pacific West Ambulance, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and ODOT.
