Hoodland Fire District responded to multiple motor vehicle crashes within a 3-hour time frame

On June 3 at 3:42 pm there was a report of a 3 vehicle, motor vehicle crash on Highway 26 near milepost 32.  On arrival, crews found that the highway was closed in both directions by three cars and debris all over the roadway.  Hoodland crews along with Sandy Fire District extricated two patients from different vehicles using the “Jaws of Life”.  Lifeflight flew one patient from the scene to a Portland hospital and two other patients were taken in by American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance to area hospitals. Highway 26 was backed up with traffic for several hours as Oregon State Police investigated the scene.  2 minutes later at 3:44 pm, there was a report of a motorcycle that went off the roadway on Timberline Road below the lodge. Hoodland crews responded to the scene and provided medical treatment to a single patient.  The patient was transported to a waiting Lifeflight helicopter and flown to a Portland hospital for further treatment.

At 5:51 pm Hoodland received a call for a single vehicle that had left the roadway on E. Marmot Road. When crews arrived there was a SUV that was approximately 50 feet over an embankment, there was no one around and the engine compartment was cold to the touch.  Hoodland Fire crews placed tape around the SUV, and cleared the scene. While en-route back to the fire station crews responded to a single vehicle that crashed into a ditch and back onto the shoulder of Highway 25 at E. Alder Heights Road.  On arrival, Hoodland crew provided medical treatment for a single occupant and American Medical Response (AMR) transported that person to an area hospital.

Hoodland Fire District wants to remind drivers as we go into the summer season to drive safely as you transit over Mt. Hood.  Please slow down and enjoy the views the mountain has to offer, avoid distracted driving and pay attention to the signs of fatigue.
