Plane Crash Kills Pilot (East of Salem) ***Update***

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office - 06/04/18 
Deputies have learned that today’s deadly plane crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).  An investigator with the NTSB will arrive tomorrow morning from Alaska and the investigation will continue.  The Sheriff’s Office intends to release the pilots name tomorrow morning any additional statements pertaining to the crash will be made by the NTSB and their investigators.  The Sheriff’s Office does not anticipate any additional releases this evening. 
Plane Crash Kills Pilot (East of Salem)
Today at 3:56 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was called to a plane crash in the 6700 block of Lardon Road NE near Salem.  When deputies arrived they found a crashed fixed wing aircraft near a private runway.  Sadly, the occupant and presumed pilot was killed in the crash.
Deputies are working with the Federal Aviation Administration to determine what events led up to today’s crash.  It is anticipated investigators will be on scene and working over the next several hours.  There are no additional details available at this time.  The Sheriff’s Office anticipates releasing additional details as well as the pilot’s identity sometime tomorrow morning.
