PRESS RELEASE FROM COOS COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY R. Paul Frasier

COOS COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
June 23, 2018

At approximately 1:33 AM this morning Coquille Valley Hospital reported to Coquille Police Department that a male individual subsequently identified as 51 year old Coquille resident Michael Lucas had presented himself to the hospital with stab wounds and significant blunt force trauma injuries to the face. Coquille Police responded to the hospital.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the incident occurred at a residence on South East Third Avenue in the City of Coquille. Officers responded to that residence, but the house was secured and no one answered the door.
Officers then applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence. The search warrant was granted by the Court and officers entered the residence at approximately 8:30 AM. When they entered the house they found a deceased male adult. The body has not been identified at this point. The cause of death has not been determined but it appears that the person has died from homicidal violence.
The officers then retreated from the residence and have applied for another search warrant for the residence. The Court has granted that warrant. Currently investigators are processing the scene inside this residence.
The Coquille Police Department is the lead agency on the case. They are being assisted by investigators from the Oregon State Police, Coos Bay Police, North Bend Police, the Medical Examiner’s Office, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, and the District Attorney’s Office.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Coquille Police Department.
