Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on SW Century Drive

The Bend Police Department is releasing the names of the deceased motorcycle rider and driver of the other involved vehicle.
Further details of the crash are being released as well. From the investigation, Bend Police learned that a deer ran in front of John Boop as he was riding his motorcycle. Boop was unable to stop prior to hitting the deer, causing his motorcycle to fall to the roadway.
Boop was then struck by the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, which was traveling behind the motorcycle.  Both vehicles were traveling east on Century Drive. The 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was being operated by Nikole Ashlee Cox of La Pine. Cox has been cooperating with investigators during this investigation.  
Several witnesses were contacted regarding the crash. This investigation is still ongoing and being conducted by Bend Police Traffic Crash Investigators.

John Alan Boop                            59 year old                    Everett, Wa resident

2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup
Driver of Vehicle #2:
Nikole Ashlee Cox                         21 year old                          La Pine resident

On July 2nd, Bend Police and Bend Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a vehicle versus motorcycle crash. Initial reports indicated the rider of the motorcycle suffered life threatening injuries during the crash.  
Bend Fire and Rescue started life saving efforts on the rider of the motorcycle. The rider did not survive the injuries incurred due to the crash. Bend Police Traffic Crash Investigators conducted the on-scene investigation, which led to the total closure of Century Drive between Mammoth and West Campbell for approximately four and a half hours. Investigators learned a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado hit the 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Several witnesses were contacted and the investigation is ongoing.
The release of names is pending notification of families of the deceased motorcycle rider.
