Motor vehicle crash on China Hat Road

On July 2nd at 4:15pm, officers with the Bend Police Department responded to the intersection of China Hat Road and South Highway 97 for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Initial information included one of the vehicles involved was a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office patrol SUV.
During the investigation, officers learned Zachary Dupree was driving a Nissan Titan pickup. Dupree was traveling north on Highway 97 and was attempting to make a right turn (east bound) onto China Hat Road. Dupree recognized the location of the intersection late and attempted to make the turn. Dupree was unable to safely navigate the turn and collided with the front of the DCSO patrol SUV.
The DCSO Deputy Conard was transported to St. Charles Bend for non-life threatening injuries suffered in the crash.
Dupree was found to be at fault in the crash and was issued a citation for making an improper right turn.
