Officer Involved Shooting in Amity

Newberg-Dundee Police Dept. - 07/07/18

Early this morning, at approximately 05:24, a 911 call was placed to the Yamhill Communications Agency (YCOM) from a resident in Amity. The caller stated that that an unknown male was inside their home. The caller stated the suspect appeared to be high on drugs or intoxicated. After a few moments the caller stated the suspect had left the residence.

Deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. Within approximately 7 minutes a deputy informed YCOM that they would be out with a male matching the description of the suspect. The suspect was approximately three city blocks from the original caller. The location of the contact was on Rice Lane near Jellison Avenue.

Within a minute, Deputies radioed that shots had been fired and were asking for additional units. Initially officers from the McMinnville Police Department responded as cover. Officers and Deputies checked the suspect for signs of life and the need for medical care. Paramedics were called to the scene but there were no signs of life.

Based on protocol for any officer involved shooting the Yamhill County Major Crime Response Team (MCRT) was notified to investigate the shooting. Members include the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, McMinnville Police Department, Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Amity Police Department, and the Oregon State Police.
