Cloverdale Brush Fire Affects Homes and Forces Evacuations -Updated 08-12-18

After consultation with fire managers, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is lowering evacuation levels in some areas surrounding the fire effectively immediately.
Current Evacuation Levels:
Level 3 (Go Now!):
  • All residences on the east side of Cascade Estates Dr between Hwy 20 and Breezy Way 
  • All residences on the south side of Cascade Estates Dr from Breezy Ln east to the 17700 block
  • All residences north of Hwy 20 between Cascades Estates Dr and Rock Island Ln
  • All residences on the west side of Rock Island Ln from Hwy 20 to Parkway Ln
  • All residences on both sides of Rock Island Ln from Parkway Ln to the end 
Level 1 (Be Ready):
  • All residences between Rabbitbrush Ln and Cascade Estates Dr
  • All residences between Rock Island Ln and Central St and north of Hwy 20 to Cascade Estates Dr
Road Closures:
  • Cascade Estates Dr between Hwy 20 and Breezy Way (section running north and south)
A large amount of fire equipment will be in the area and motorists are asked to respect road closures and use caution on all roadways around the fire.  The Sheriff's Office will continue to cooridnate with fire managers and will adjust evacuation levels as appropriate.  Firefighters will continue mopping up and reinforcing control lines at least through today and will likely be on scene intermittently over the next several days.  Residences are asked to remain vigilant and ready to leave if conditions worsen.

Homes off of Sagebrush Ln have been reduced to Level 1 (Be Ready).  Residents should be aware of potential danger and ready to evacuated if needed.  Residents should also monitor local media and emergency services sites for additional information, should the situation change.
Current Evacuation Levels:
Level 3 (Go Now!): All areas on the west of the 17900 Block of Cascade Estates Dr and residents off of Rock Island Ln.
Level 1 (Be Ready): All areas east of 17900 Block of Cascade Estates Dr, east of Sunburst St., and residences off of Sagebrush Ln.

Location: Rabbitbrush Way / Hwy 20
On 08-11-18 at approximately 4:10 PM, Cloverdale Fire District was dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Rabbitbrush Way and Hwy 20 in Cloverdale.  First responders found the fire actively burning to the east and south.  The fire grew rapidly in dry and windy conditions threatening multiple structures and spread to the east.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in consultation with Cloverdale Fire Protection District initiated Level 3 (Go Now!) Evacuation Notices in the areas south of Cascade Estates Dr, north of Hwy 20 and west of Fryrear Rd.  Notifications were made via the Deschutes Alerts Mass Notification System as well as door to door notifications by deputies, Black Butte Ranch Police officers, and Oregon State Police troopers.
Multiple fire agencies responded from around Central Oregon sending two structural protection task forces.  Central Oregon Fire Management Services (US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management) and Oregon Department of Forestry also assisted.  Several firefighting aircraft were utilized including a Very Large Air Tanker, Large Air Tankers, Single Engine Air Tankers, and water dropping helicopters.
Forward progress on the fire was stopped around 6:30 PM and the preliminary size estimate is approximately 130 acres.  Preliminary damage assessments found two residences lost and approximately 6 outbuildings.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter at Five Pines Lodge in Sisters for evacuees.  The Pet Evacuation Team is available to assist with animals as needed.  Several local residents also assisted with transporting large animals belonging to evacuees.

Level 3 (Go Now!): All areas west of the 17900 Block of Cascade Estates Dr, Sunburst St, Ten Peaks Ct to Rabbitbrush Way.
Level 1 (Be Ready): All areas east of 17900 Block of Cascade Estates Dr, Sunburst St, Ten Peaks Ct to Fryrear Rd.
Oregon Department of Transportation is assisting traffic through the area on Hwy 20 with pilot cars.  The highway had been closed for approximately four hours.  Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when traveling through the area as fire operations will continue tonight and tomorrow.
