Eugene man killed in accidental fall from billboard

Polk Co. Sheriff's Office - 08/11/18 

On 08/10/18 at about 1:50 p.m. the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of  an  injured person near Grand Ronde in Polk County.  Subsequent to the investigation Deputies determined that 57 year old Gregory Jenkins from Eugene, Oregon was working on a billboard when he lost balance and fell approximately 75 feet to the ground below.  Mr. Jenkins died at the scene.  Through the investigation and witness statements it was determined that Mr. Jenkins was not tethered to the platform with his safety harness.  Investigators from the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) responded to the scene as well to complete their investigation of an on the job death.  The Polk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the West Valley Fire Department and the Grand Ronde Tribal Police Department.
