Hotel Fire

Newport Police Dept. - 08/06/18

On August 5, 2018, at approximately 3:13am, Newport Police Department responded to assist Newport Fire Department with a structural fire at the Knights Inn, located at 1823 N. Coast Hwy, Newport Oregon.

 Upon arrival, officers observed large flames and thick smoke emitting from the southwest corner of the second floor of the hotel. Officers were informed that guests were trapped on the second floor.

As Newport Fire Department battled the blaze, Officers entered the second floor of the hotel to conduct a search for anyone trapped or in distress.

Heavy smoke and intense heat from the fire forced the Officers to retreat before a complete search of the Hotel could be completed.
Newport Fire Department personnel later conducted a search after the fire was under control.

One guest was transported by PacWest Ambulance to the local Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital, then was later transported by Life Flight to the Burn Trauma Center in Portland, Oregon. The guest is listed in critical but stable condition. Two other guests were treated for smoke inhalation and then released. No fatalities were reported.

 Cause of the fire is still under investigation.   
 Newport Police Department was assisted by Oregon State Police, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Toledo Police Department. 
 Newport Fire Department was assisted by a guest of the Hotel in battling the fire.
