A house fire claims the life of a Roseburg woman

On Friday at 11:18 a.m., Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was called to a reported house on fire on Oak Hill Road just north of Roseburg.  Upon arrival, firefighters found thick smoke and heavy fire coming from the house.  Firefighters were told by neighbors that an elderly female was possibly still in the house.  Firefighters quickly entered the house to conduct a primary search and work to extinguish the fire.  During their search firefighters located the female and determined she was deceased.  Firefighters continued to work to fully extinguish and overhaul the fire.  The house sustained heavy damage throughout the structure.

The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin notifications can be made.  One other adult was not home during the fire and was later located safe.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office.

Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the incident with 16 firefighters including 3 engines, 2 water tenders, and 2 command vehicles.
