Fatal Structure Fire

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A residential structure fire has claimed the life of a Roseburg woman.

On Friday, April 3, 2020, at 11:17 am, 9-1-1 dispatchers began receiving reports of a structure fire in the 900-block of Oak Hill Road.

Douglas County Fire District #2 responded and began fighting the fire. Firefighters discovered an individual inside the home who had died at the scene.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 83-year-old Darlene Louise Shaffer. The Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista Gas, Pacific Power and Central Pacific Railroad provided assistance.

Next of kin has been notified.
