Suspect with Prior Manslaughter Conviction Arrested with Loaded Firearm after Eluding Police

Portland Police Bureau

On Friday, April 10, 2020 at 12:37 a.m., a Portland Police Officer assigned to the Traffic Division observed a vehicle driving 96 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The officer stopped the vehicle on I-205 near Northeast Killingsworth Street. The vehicle then sped off as the officer approached the window.

The Portland Police Bureau's Air Support Unit maintained visual of the vehicle until it stopped in the area of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Kelly Street. East precinct officers arrived at the location and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Dennis Milton Perryman. Officers located a loaded handgun and several magazines in the vehicle.

Upon review of criminal history, officers learned that Perryman had been convicted of Manslaughter in the First Degree in 2008. This was related to a 2007 vehicular homicide investigation.

Perryman was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm.

PPB officers are concerned about the recent increase in extreme speeds and the dangers it poses to the community. We are asking drivers to be mindful of their speed, especially now that the roads are less congested.
