DEPUTIES INVESTIGATE SHOOTING IN CITY OF JEFFERSON

 Marion Co. Sheriff's Office

Just before 2:30 pm on December 12, 2020, deputies were called to a shooting in front of a home in the 600 block of Union St in Jefferson.  A City of Jefferson contract deputy was the first to arrive in the area and detained the involved female, Alicia Torres, who was actively being confronted by neighbors while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.  The victim, Donald Secrest, 43, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit were called in to investigate the incident.  Preliminary information from the investigation leads them to believe the disturbance began inside of the home where Torres is alleged to have been the aggressor during an argument with her husband, Secrest.  When Secrest attempted to leave the residence, Torres is reported to have shot him once while he was in his car backing out of the driveway.  Their three children witnessed the assault.

Alicia Torres, 37, has been lodged at the Marion County Jail where she is being charged with Attempted Murder II, Assault II, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Due to this being an ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office contracts with the City of Jefferson to provide enhanced law enforcement services to the community located at the southern edge of Marion County.  Currently, there are two full-time deputies assigned to the City of Jefferson.
