Woman Arrested After Assaulting Officer

Eugene Police Department

On March 31 at about 9:50 p.m., an officer was out at a resident in the 2500 block of Frontier Drive regarding an assault. The officer had probable cause to arrest a man, William Andrew Hart Beebe, age 26, of Eugene, for Assault in the Fourth Degree APA and Strangulation. Due to information about Beebe, more than one officer arrived to search for him.

They knocked on his apartment multiple times and announced their presence to no effect. At about the time they came into verbal contact with Beebe, his mother, Heather Ami Ortis, age 51, of Springfield, arrived at the front door of the apartment. She was instructed, then ordered to stay outside and officers would contact her after they were done. Ortis did not follow instructions.

Due to the nature of the suspect contact, an officer tried to shut the door and keep Ortis out, but she forced the door back open and initiated a physical confrontation during which she struck the officer on the side of his head. Officers quickly took Ortis into custody, during which she resisted arrest. There were also a few disorderly onlookers to the arrest. Ortis was lodged at Lane County Jail on charges of Assault on a Public Safety Officer, Interfering and Resisting Arrest. Case 21-04909

Her son, Andrew Beebe, was talked out of the apartment and taken into custody for Assault 4 APA- Felony and Strangulation- Felony. The officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries and released. Case 21-04901
