Polk County Man Sentenced To 12.6 Years In Prison For Online Sexual Corruption of a Child

Lincoln County District Attorney's Office On May 29, 2025, Lincoln County Circuit Court Senior Judge Thomas Branford sentenced Danny Hicks (59-year-old Polk County resident) for eleven counts of felony sex crimes that were discovered during several undercover law enforcement child luring investigations. During these investigations, officers used online social media platforms to pose as 5 different underage children to investigate online crimes involving children. A Lincoln County jury listened to evidence presented during a three-day trial and on May 16, 2025, found Danny Hicks guilty of five counts of Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the Second Degree, five counts of Luring a Minor, and one count of Purchasing Sex with a Minor. The jury also found the conduct included five separate incidents or criminal episodes which occurred over the course of three months. This case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jenna Wallace. Three Arrested Following a Menace in NE Salem

Marian County Sheriff's Office Just after 1:00 p.m. on May 29, 2025, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an armed individual near the 3000 block of 47th Avenue NE in Salem. While en route, deputies received updated information that a victim had been threatened with firearms. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspects had fled the area in a gray Nissan SUV. Deputies learned two victims had been menaced, three individuals, all armed with handguns, had menaced them before leaving the scene. The suspect vehicle was located near 25th Street NE and Claxter Road NE in Salem. A traffic stop was initiated, during which one of the vehicle’s occupants fled on foot. Former Police Officer Pleads Guilty in Criminal Investigation

Tigard Police Department A former Tigard Police officer has pleaded guilty in a criminal investigation into whether he was truthful in the course of his official duties. Jacob Teeny pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct in the second degree in a Washington County Courtroom this morning, May 29, 2025. As part of the agreement, Teeny resigned from the Tigard Police Department effective immediately and will surrender his police certification to the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST), which means he cannot work as a police officer in the State of Oregon again. “Truthfulness is a cornerstone of police work, and without it we lose the trust the community has placed in us, and the ability to testify in court proceedings,” said Chief Jamey McDonald. “As a department, we place a high value on transparency, and that means being open with our community when things are going well and when they’re not. Coos County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit On May 29, 2025 at approximately 4:10 PM Deputy Francis stopped a green Chevy pick up for a traffic violation on Coos Head RD near Cape Argo Highway. The vehicle had severall occupants inside. One of the passenger’s exited the vehicle and left on foot. This passenger went into a heavily wooded area. The driver provided the passenger’s name, who was found to have several warrants for his arrest.  Sgt Slater and K9 Cena responded to the scene from the Bunker Hill area. Deputy Baker, Officer Parrish of the Coquille Tribal Police and Officer Fleming of Confederated Tribal Police assisted with the perimeter.  Sergeant Slater and K9 Cena arrived a few minutes later and began a criminal apprehension track into thick brush and standing timber. Reckless Driver Arrested After Fleeing in Marion County

Marion County Sheriff’s Office May 28, 2025 – In the early hours of the morning, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrested a suspect following a vehicle pursuit that began off Lancaster and ended east of Salem. The vehicle had previously eluded deputies on three separate occasions, each time driving recklessly. Due to concerns for public safety, deputies had not engaged in active pursuits during those prior incidents. Deputies observed the suspect vehicle leaving Tony’s Bar. They followed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop and fled. A pursuit was authorized, and with assistance from the Salem Police Department (SMP), spike strips were successfully deployed. The suspect vehicle continued eastbound on Sunnyview Road at low speeds, eventually losing a tire near Howell Prairie Road. Medford Police On Friday, May 23, 2025, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Medford Police officers responded to the intersection of Central Avenue and 9th Street, near the Medford Library, for a report of indecent exposure. Witnesses reported seeing a male and female engaged in sexual activity in public. Upon arrival, officers quickly determined that the activity was not consensual and detained the male suspect on scene.   The investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Malachi J. Pollard, and the 68-year-old female victim were not known to each other. Evidence indicates that Pollard forcibly initiated sexual contact with the victim. Three Suspects Arrested After Grants Pass Robbery

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, OR. – On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at approximately 5:24 p.m., Grants Pass Police Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Rogue River Highway regarding a robbery with a knife. Officers arrived to find a 15-year-old victim who stated an adult and two juveniles had used a knife to take clothing items he had been trying to sell through Facebook Marketplace. The 14-year-old suspect held a knife to the victim’s throat and punched him across the face while the 20-year-old and 15-year-old suspects took the clothing. All suspects fled the scene on foot. Aiden Steven McCarroll, a 20-year-old resident of Grants Pass, was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of Robbery in the first degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault in the third degree, and Theft in the second degree. TWO SUBJECTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING ONLINE LURING INVESTIGATIONS

Lincoln City Police Over the past several months, LCPD Officers have conducted investigations involving Child Luring crimes. During these investigations, officers posed as underage children on various online social media platforms and were contacted by two separate adult men. These men then initiated sexually inappropriate conversations and sent sexually explicit photographs to these accounts, which they believed to be operated by juveniles in Lincoln County. The following arrests were made as a result of these investigations: On May 14, 2025, Robert “Robbie” Powell, age 25 of Sheridan, was arrested after messaging multiple decoy accounts and initiating sexually inappropriate conversations. Powell was charged with Luring a Minor, and he was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail, where he remains. Arrest Made in Child Pornography Investigation

Newport Police Department   On Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, the Newport Police Department, with the assistance of the Lincoln City Police Department, served a search warrant at a trailer located in the Harbor Village Trailer Park in Newport. The warrant was the result of a long-term investigation into the downloading and sharing of Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM), more commonly referred to as child pornography. Arrested at the scene was Kurtis Fegulia, 36, of Newport.   Newport Police began the investigation after receiving a Cybertip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program, which was developed in 1998 and is a national network of 61 coordinated task forces, representing over 5,400 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Linn County Deputies Investigate Fatal House Fire

Linn County Sheriff's Office Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reports today, May 20, 2025, at 7:05a.m., Linn County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire in the 40000 block of Hwy 226, east of Scio. Reports stated the house was fully engulfed and someone was still inside the residence.  Numerous Linn County Deputies, along with Oregon State Police, Scio Fire Department, Stayton Fire Departments, Lyons Fire Department, and the Lebanon Fire Departments responded to the scene. Once on scene, emergency personnel found the house fire progressing with smoke and fire rolling out of the house. Marilyn Hanson, 76, of Scio, escaped the blaze and told emergency personnel that Sharon Dougherty, 57, of Scio was still inside the residence. SUSPECT IN EARLY MORNING SHOOTING TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Lincoln City Police Department In the early morning of Monday, May 19, 2025, Lincoln City Police Officers were dispatched to the area of SW 51st St and SW Ebb Ave on a report of a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim who had who had multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Personnel from North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance also responded and began providing medical treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. The victim was later transported to Salem Hospital for additional medical treatment and surgery. The victim’s current condition is unknown at this time. The suspect in the shooting, identified as 43-year-old Justin R. Schmeidal of Lincoln City, remained on scene and self-reported the shooting before being taken into custody. Grants Pass Low-Level Drug Deal Turns into Robbery Arrest at Ogle Park

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, OR. – On Saturday, May 17, 2025, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Grants Pass Police Officers responded to a disturbance at Ogle Park on NW Washington Boulevard. The investigation revealed that Baron Messier, a 58-year-old male, was angry because he had given money to two females to purchase methamphetamine for him. When neither the money nor the narcotics were delivered, Messier went to Ogle Park armed with a machete and demanded the return of the money. During the confrontation, Messier was disarmed but punched one of the females in the eye and attempted to strike both females with a section of pipe. Medford Police Department On Friday, May 9, 2025, we responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a building near the intersection of Siskiyou Boulevard and Lazy Creek Drive. An MPD Code Enforcement Community Service Officer (CSO), who was parked nearby completing paperwork, witnessed a white 2008 Ford F250 pickup truck crash through the side of a dental office. The CSO immediately summoned officers, rendered aid, and assisted in coordinating emergency care. It was determined that a 56-year-old female employee inside the dental office sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She remains in stable condition. The driver of the pickup truck was also injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Street Crimes Unit Takes Two Suspects Into Custody And Seizes Drugs And A Firearm

Eugene Police Department SCU is funded by the Community Safety Payroll Tax   In early 2025, the Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit began investigating illegal narcotics delivery involving 39-year-old Eugene resident Anthony Miro Latin and 41-year-old Christina Amber Schmisek. An SCU officer received information Latin was selling fentanyl and methamphetamine from a local transitional housing camp in the 1600 block of West 18th Avenue. The investigation led to the service of a search warrant in March 2025 at Latin’s residence, a hotel room, and a storage unit. Evidence seized included approximately one pound of powdered fentanyl, nearly $3,000 in cash, a Glock handgun, and evidence of identity theft. On May 5, Eugene Police Patrol officers located and arrested Latin and Schmisek and both were lodged at the Lane County Jail. Eugene Police Department   On May 9 at 3:39 p.m., 27-year-old Caleb Ogden, travelled from the Seattle area to meet up a ‘child under sixteen years of age’ he met online. Instead, he met the Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit detectives who had been working a sting. Ogden was compliant when he was arrested him. During a search incident to arrest, a large quantity of sexual toys was located.   Ogden was lodged at Lane County Jail for Online Sexual Corruption of a Minor 1 and Luring a Minor. Multi-Agency Operation Arrests Grants Pass Fentanyl Dealer with Illegal Firearms

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – This morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Grants Pass Police Department, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team (RADE), U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Central Point Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on a residence on Lower River Road just outside the city limits of Grants Pass. The operation was the culmination of an ongoing multi-agency effort to impact the sales of Fentanyl in Southern Oregon. The search recovered over one-half pound of Fentanyl, numerous firearms, and a 3-D printer used for printing “ghost guns.” After numerous suspicious devices were found, the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad also responded to the scene to render the devices safe. Witnesses followed the car until it crashed off the road and got high-centered on boulders at the intersection of SW 4th Street at SW Bridge Street.
