Man in custody at Clackamas County Jail found deceased; death appears to be due to natural causes

A 47-year-old man in custody at Clackamas County Jail was found deceased in his cell on January 12, 2026, during morning meal service. 

Around 7:15 a.m. on January 12, 2026, a deputy went to check on the man after he did not appear for breakfast. The deputy went into his cell and found the man unresponsive in his bed, and he appeared to be deceased.  Jail staff initiated standard medical response procedures, including attempted lifesaving measures and requesting emergency medical services to the jail.

In accordance with standard protocol, the Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team was activated to conduct a death investigation. The Clackamas County Medical Examiner also responded to the jail.

At this time, the man’s death appears to be due to natural causes.

Additional information will be released pending family notification and the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s investigation.
