Speed a factor in fatal crash in Jackson County

Oregon State Police  - 05/30/18  On Wed, May 30, 2018 at about 1:55 am Oregon State Police Troopers were dispatched to a report of a crash on I-5 NB, near Exit 35.  Preliminary investigation showed a white 1992 Ford Ranger Pickup was traveling NB, at a high rate of speed, when it drove onto the right shoulder along the Exit 35 off ramp.  The vehicle traveled on the gravel shoulder before rolling. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Driver will not be identified until next of kin are notified. The Exit 35 NB off ramp was closed for approximately 3 hours.

Unseatbelted driver killed in head on crash

Oregon State Police  - 05/30/18  On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 5:32pm, Oregon State Police responded to a head-on crash on Hwy 101 near Dellmoor  Loop Rd. (Between Astoria and Seaside) Preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford Escape, operated by Dale Larson, age 84 from Astoria, was traveling southbound when for unknown reason(s) crossed into northbound lane.  A northbound black GMC pickup, operated by Jesse Taylor, age 38 from Seaside, was unable to stop, hitting head-on with the Ford Escape.  Larson was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. Hwy 101 was closed for 2.5 hours with a detour in place.   

FATAL VEHICLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office May 30th, 2018 8:37 AM DIXONVILLE, Ore. –  A Roseburg teen has died following a single vehicle crash in Dixonville. At 11:40 pm, a 9-1-1 call was placed reporting an injury crash in the 200-block of South Deer Creek Road. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Deputies located a 2008 Toyota Yaris that left the roadway, which had been occupied by five persons at the time of the crash. Fire department personnel with Douglas County Fire District #2 extricated three of the passengers. Deputies determined the vehicle was being driven by 22 year-old Shannon Carrie Ann Mello of Myrtle Creek. 17 year-old Elizabeth Williams of Roseburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Passengers 16 year-old Christopher Smith and 21 year-old Kevin Lunsburg, both of Roseburg, were transported to Mercy Medical Center for initial treatment. Southern California Drug Trafficker Sentenced to 17 Years in Federal Prison

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon  - 05/29/18  PORTLAND, Ore. – Francisco Nuno-Urenda, 41, of Los Angeles, California, was sentenced today to 17 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking scheme that brought distribution quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin into Oregon. Nuno-Urenda was also ordered to pay $75,000 and will be on supervised release for five years at the conclusion of his prison sentenced. According to court documents, Nuno-Urenda was a drug trafficker based in California who sourced drugs from Mexico and shipped them throughout the U.S. He supplied numerous drug trafficking organizations including a network that operated in the Portland metropolitan area. Nuno-Urenda was indicted along with 15 other codefendants, most of whom were lower level conspirators. Investigators determined that Nuno-Urenda maintained contact with approximately 15 suppliers in Mexico who were connected to two or three different Mexican drug

Warm Springs Woman Sentenced to 13 Years in Federal Prison for Assault with Intent to Commit Murder

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon  - 05/29/18  PORTLAND, Ore. – Rhyan Leigh Smith, 26, of Warm Springs, Oregon, was sentenced today to 13 years in federal prison for assault with intent to commit murder of two family members and using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. “The defendant’s violent conduct towards family members is inexplicable and indefensible,” said Billy J. Williams, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon. “This kind of violence is an attack on the victims and the members of the Warm Springs community. Let us hope that the sentence imposed brings some measure of solace and closure to the victims of these crimes, and healing to the community.” According to court documents, in the early morning hours of March 16, 2016, Smith returned to a house she had periodically resided in with five of her family members.
