Deputies respond to drowning

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/30/18  Deputies with Benton County Sheriff's Office responded on 7/30/2018 at 2:00 pm to the Irish Bend Park on the Willamette River, 15 miles south of Corvallis on a report of a possible drowning. Monroe Fire and Corvallis Fire responded as well to assist. Initial reports indicated that a community group with numerous juveniles had been swimming at Irish Bend park with adult supervision. An adult male supervisor was observed struggling in the water. Several other members of the group tried to asit the male but were unsuccessful. The male went under the water and did not resurface. Deputies arrived and with the assistance of the Harrisburg Fire Department, located the deceased 34 year old male. The male is from Corvallis. His name will be relesed pending family notification. Murder indictment returned against Terry Hickman

Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office  - 07/30/18 Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced a grand jury returned a true bill against 58-year-old Terry Hickman. Hickman is charged with one count of murder following the death of 29-year-old Dallas Boyd that occurred between July 13 and July 19, 2018. On July 20, two witnesses flagged down a Portland Police officer about information concerning a potential homicide, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Furthermore, the witnesses stated Hickman was a friend and said he came to their apartment earlier in the day. The witnesses said Hickman told them he had gotten into an argument with a woman inside his van and that he choked her until she stopped breathing. During the investigation, police learned that on July 17, a van belonging to Hickman had been towed from a location in Multnomah County, according to the publically available probable cause affidavit. Portland Man Given Prison, Probation for Video Voyeurism at Local Daycare Facility

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon  - 07/30/18  PORTLAND, Ore. – Jay Walter Jaacks, 50, of Portland, was sentenced today to 34 days in federal prison and five years of probation for placing a concealed video camera in the adult restroom of the Joyful Noise Child Development Center on Southwest First Avenue in Portland. Jaacks was also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service and is permanently prohibited from entering the daycare facility or having contact with any of its employees. On or about July 29, 2016, Jaacks concealed a video camera in a small cosmetics bag and placed it in the adult restroom of a daycare facility in Portland. The video camera captured 17 adults, both daycare employees and other parents, in various stages of undress. A daycare employee found the camera and immediately notified law enforcement. Bicyclist Critically Injured After Being Struck in Lane County

Oregon State Police  - 07/30/18  On Friday, July 27th, 2018 at about 7:10 PM the Oregon State Police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle that occurred on McKenzie View Drive in an unincorporated area of Lane County. This collision involved a 2009 Honda Civic operated by Tevah DONITH age 36, of Eugene.  DONITH was traveling westbound on McKenzie View Drive, overtook and impacted with a westbound bicyclist, Jeffery Allan SAKACSI, age 48 of Springfield, while negotiating a curve.  SAKACSI was thrown to the roadway and struck by a second vehicle which was a 2005 Chrysler Cruze operated by Megan BERRY, age 33, of Eugene.  SAKACSI was transported to Sacred Heart hospital at River Bend with life threatening injuries.  SAKACSI remains in serious condition. The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Eugene Springfield Fire.   The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released when appropriate.

Missing Yamhill County Man Found Deceased in Santiam River

Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/30/18 Yesterday, at about 5:00 p.m. the body of Kerry Albert Letsch was located in the Santiam River, approximately one mile downriver from the Santiam Rest Area.  Letsch had been missing since July 13th and had been suffering from dementia and depression.  His vehicle was discovered abandoned at the Santiam Rest Area on Interstate 5 on July 20th.  The discovery of Letsch’s vehicle prompted a search of the rest area and adjacent properties by the Oregon State Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.  The search included approximately 9.5 river miles from the City of Jefferson to the Willamette River.   Letsch was located yesterday evening by rafters using the river for recreation.  The Oregon State Police, the Jefferson Fire District, and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office all assisted in the recovery.  A post examination of Letsch will be conducted in the near future, but foul play is not suspected at this time.

Two Cave Junction Men Found deceased after shooting - Josephine County

Oregon State Police  - 07/30/18  On July 26, 2018 at approximately 12:30am, Oregon State Police Troopers out of the Grants Pass office responded to Highway 199 near Reeves Creek Road to the report of two deceased males. Initially it was thought to be related to a traffic crash, but as Troopers arrived it was evident the two males had been shot. Shortly thereafter, the person that allegedly shot the two men arrived on scene and was detained.  The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Detectives responded and are lead on the investigation. The names of the deceased are 28 year old Matthew J. Cortez from Cave Junction and 28 year old Jesse Swift, also from Cave Junction. The investigation in ongoing and there is no danger to the public. There have been no arrests made regarding the incident and the detectives are working with the Josephine County District Attorney’s office.

Albany Woman Loses Life in Two-Vehicle crash on Highway 20 at Knox Butte Road

Oregon State Police  - 07/30/18  On Monday July 30, 2018 at about 9:45 AM OSP Troopers responded to a fatal vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy 20 and Knox Butte Rd. Preliminary investigation revealed a gray 2006 Chevrolet Colorado, operated by Linda OLSON, age 76, of Albany, was attempting to turn left onto Hwy 20 from Knox Butte Rd and failed to yield the right of way to a red 1999 Ford F250 pickup operated by Ryan TILLEY, age 42, of Albany.  The Ford struck the driver's side of the Chevrolet. Both operators were wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision. OLSON had succumb to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  TILLEY was transported to the hospital by his wife who had arrived on-scene after the crash, for minor injuries. Hwy 20 at Knox Butte Road was closed and vehicular traffic was redirected for approximately 4 hours.  The investigation is ongoing.  OSP was assisted by Linn County S.O., Albany Fire, ODOT and th

Deceased subject found in Bear Creek

Medford Police Dept.  - 07/30/18  On 07-29-18 at about 1430 hours Medford Police officers were flagged down by a citizen advising there was, what appeared to be a deceased subject in Bear Creek just south of Barnett Rd.  Officers responded to the area and located a deceased subject in Bear Creek a short distance from the shoreline.  Medford Fire personnel responded and organized the recovery effort.  Medford Police and Jackson County detectives were on scene shortly after the body was discovered.  The gender and identity of the deceased subject is unknown at this time.  Medford Police detectives and the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office are attempting to identify the deceased subject and notify next of kin. Sheriff's Office  - 07/29/18  Update, July 29 at 12:30 pm: Upon recommendation from fire officials, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is lowering evacuation levels in the Pleasant Creek Road area. Addresses most recently in the Level 3 (Go) zone are now Level 2 (Be Set). Addresses most recently in the Level 2 (Be Set) zone are now Level 1 (Be Ready). The updated evacuations zones are as follows: Level 2 (Be Set): 6392 to 7235 Pleasant Creek Road. Level 1 (Be Ready): Graves Creek Road, north of Ditch Creek Road; 3760 to 6394 Pleasant Creek Road, 3997 to 36505 Ditch Creek Road, and 155 N Ford Road to 17101 Ford Road. Sugar Pine Fire Wildfire Announcements – 19 hrs. ago News Release: DEQ extends air quality advisory for Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties Medford, OR—The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has extended an air quality advisory for Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties, which are being impacted by smoke from a number of wildfires.  Air quality had improved somewhat late in the week in Klamath Falls and the Rogue Valley where conditions were very unhealthy and even hazardous at some monitors earlier in the week. An air quality advisory was in place for the same counties from Monday to Thursday.  With hot weather, light winds and a number of wildfires burning, air quality is expected to worsen at least through the weekend. As of 11 a.m. on Friday, air quality was very unhealthy in Shady Cove and unhealthy in Medford and Cave Junction. South Umpqua Complex Wildfire News – 22 hrs. ago Weather and fuel conditions aligned Friday, creating an increase in fire activity on Columbus Fire and Miles Fire. A pocket of dry air passed over the South Umpqua Complex during the afternoon. The very low humidity and gusting winds caused both fires to develop large plumes of smoke visible from a long distance. Deep layers of fuels on the ground contributed to fire intensity. Snowshoe Fire was quiet yesterday, staying within its control lines. Fire personnel continue to mop up residual heat. On Friday, Columbus Fire made a push to the south in the Black Canyon drainage, reaching part of the 600 road. Gusting winds carried embers, resulting in multiple spot fires up to ½ mile south of the main fire edge. Firefighters needed to pull back to a safer area north of the blaze until fire behavior moderated. Firefighters have started burning out along the 700 road and plan to extend the burnout along the 2925 road to try to corral th

Clackamas Fire Dist. #1  - 07/29/18  Around 2:00 am this morning, firefighters responded to a residential fire on SE Silverleaf Lane, in Oak Grove. Upon arriving, crews found the home filled with heavy smoke and fire. The fire had extended to a second home next door. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire. One person was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for smoke inhalation. The homeowners cat was successfully resusitated and taken to a local veterinary hospital and is also being treated for smoke inhalation. Three people were displaced and the Red Cross was called to help. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. Clackamas Fire District # 1 would like to remind you to have working smoke detectors on every level of your home and inside and outside of all sleeping areas.

DCSO Searching for Missing Women in Sisters

Sheriff's Office  - 07/28/18 SPECIAL ATTENTION SISTERS AREA The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for Roberta “Robin” Siegmann.  She was last seen today at 1:00pm at the Creekside Park in Sisters.  She is approximately 5’4”, 140lbs,  brn/gry hair with blue eyes.  Her clothing is unknown.  She may have a 60 pound black and white muscular dog with her.  Siegmann has a memory problem and is not from the area. She will recognize her name, however, she will not know where she lives or how to return to her motorhome.  Please report any info or sightings to non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.

Public's Help Sought to Locate a Missing Eight-Year-Old Child and Dog in Lloyd Neighborhood

Portland Police Bureau  - 07/28/18  The Portland Police Bureau is asking for the public's help to locate a missing eight-year-old boy and his dog, last seen in the area of Northeast 2nd Avenue and Clackamas Street in the Lloyd Neighborhood at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. Eight-year-old Josiah is a Black male and was last seen wearing a blue and green striped pullover and is walking his small dog named "Boy." Josiah is hearing impaired and may be difficult to understand. Josiah normally wears headphones. Officers and family are checking the area and are asking for the public's help to look for Josiah and Boy. Based on the information thus far, it s believed that Josiah and Boy went for a walk and likely got lost. There are no indications of foul play Anyone seeing Josiah and Boy is asked to immediately call 9-1-1. 

Unfortunate accident injures 6 year old girl

Newberg-Dundee Police Dept.  - 07/28/18  July 28th, 2018 Just prior to 11:00 am this morning, during the Old Fashioned Festival Parade on 2nd Street in Newberg, a 6 year old girl was seriously injured when she accidentally fell from the float she had been riding in during the parade.  The accident occurred less than a block from fire station 20 in Newberg and the girl was immediately rushed to medics on scene at the station.  She was flown by Life Flight Helicopter to a Portland Hospital.  There is no further information at this time.   Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the little girl.

Oregon State Fire Marshal  - 07/28/18  Members of the public have a chance today to get information firsthand at a public meeting. The meeting is at 3 p.m. Saturday at North Valley High School, 6741 Monument Drive,  Grants Pass. Volatile, erratic fire activity continues, particularly on the Taylor Creek Fire. The hot, dry weather conditions in the region promote fire growth and make it harder for firefighters to suppress the fire. Fire managers say there is active fire behavior on just about every area of the fire, particularly around the perimeter. Taylor Fire:  Oregon State Fire Marshal’s structure task forces and wildland firefighters are working together, especially in the following road areas: Limpy Cr. Rd, Shan Cr. Rd, W. Pickett Rd, Pickett Rd., Galice Rd, and Taylor Cr. Rd. areas where the fire is nearing structure protection areas. To date, no structures have been damaged or lost. Gresham Police Dept  - 07/28/18  UPDATE- Kenneth Bonin has been located and is safe. Thanks to all that assisted in getting the word out. Gresham, Ore. – Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 77-year-old man with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Kenneth Bonin was last seen at his northeast Gresham residence yesterday when he stated he was driving to McMinnville. Bonin has brown hair, blue eyes, is approximately 5-feet-11-inches tall and 218 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue checkered shirt, black jeans and a black cap which says “Ronald Reagan”. Bonin is driving a gray 2003 Toyota pickup with a canopy and Oregon plate ZDG592. Anyone who knows of Bonin’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the non-emergency police dispatch line at 503.823.3333 or if needed, 911.

Sheriff's Office  - 07/27/18  Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Gresham Police Department, Gresham Fire Department, and American Medical Response responded to the report of a traffic crash involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Halsey and 7th St. in Fairview.  The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the juvenile motorcycle passenger was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  The driver of the car suffered minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital as well. The deceased motorcycle rider has been identified as 26 year old Yuriy Farina of Portland. Preliminary reports show the motorcycle was traveling west bound on Halsey when it collided with the car traveling east bound. MCSO Deputy indicted on criminal charges

Sheriff's Office  - 07/27/18  Allegations of misconduct are serious matters for public safety agencies.  The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) holds our uniformed members to a higher standard because of the inherent responsibility bestowed upon them.  First and foremost, the Sheriff’s Office appreciates how difficult it was for the victim in this incident to come forward and report these allegations. We understand the significant emotional and physical pain that comes with abuse and victimization, and we hope this investigation helps the victim begin the healing process. The allegations of misconduct against Dwight Richey are serious and complex.  The allegations were reported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) although they occurred in Multnomah County.  Once MCSO was advised of the allegations, MCSO in consultation with WCSO, determined that WCSO should be the lead investigators in the case.  The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/27/18  On July 26, 2018, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detective was arrested on 1 Count of Theft by Taking, 4 Counts of Theft by Selling and 1 count of Official Misconduct by the Salem Police Department. The Sheriff’s Office received information from the Salem Police Department regarding Sean Banks and potential criminal activity in March of 2018. Upon receiving this information, the Sheriff’s Office requested that the Salem Police Department conduct a criminal investigation. Banks was placed on Administrative leave on July 12, 2018. Banks has been booked at the Linn County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time. Any additional releases will come from the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Grass Valley Man loses life in Single Motorcycle Crash on I 84 near Mosier

Oregon State Police  - 07/26/18  On Wednesday, July 25th at approximately 6:47AM, OSP Troopers from The Dalles responded to the report of a single motorcycle crash westbound on I 84 near milepost 69, which is just west of Mosier in Wasco County. OSP and Hood River Medics arrived at the scene within 15 minutes of the reported crash.  The operator of the motorcycle was determined to have succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.  Preliminary investigation revealed the operator, 60 year old Mike Layton WALLACE, was traveling westbound in the slow lane at or just below the speed limit.  A witness who was following WALLACE, observed him reach back towards a saddle bag along the left rear side of the motorcycle when he lost control and began to wobble back and forth.  WALLACE was ejected off the motorcycle and came to rest along the shoulder.  The motorcycle continued to travel under its own power before stopping along the center median approximately 1000 feet from WALLACE. Two Oregon Fugitives Located in Mississippi -- One in Custody and One Deceased

FBI - Oregon  - 07/26/18  On Wednesday, July 25th, 2018, the FBI Jackson Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Victoria Michelle Cravitz, a fugitive since October 2000, in the Chatham community in Washington County, Mississippi. Leon Henry Shaw, her common-law husband/partner, is confirmed deceased. Victoria Cravitz, who was living under the name Jennifer Larsen, took Shaw to a hospital for medical care for an illness. Shaw died of natural causes at the hospital and questions about his true identity arose when generating a death certificate. Concerned citizens contacted the FBI. Shaw and Cravitz were wanted for their alleged involvement in the sexual molestation of several children between the ages of six and seventeen in Klamath Falls, Oregon, beginning in approximately December of 1989 and continuing until approximately February of 1999.  On January 7, 2000, a Circuit Court Judge in Klamath County, Oregon, issued arrest warrants for Shaw and Cravitz. Couple Arrested After Standoff Outside of Sherwood

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/26/18  July 26, 2018 – A couple was arrested early this morning after a standoff at a home outside of Sherwood. An armed man confronted deputies who were trying to arrest his wife for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The Tactical Negotiations Team and Crisis Negotiations Unit responded to assist. He and his wife were later arrested on multiple charges. On Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11:44 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a complaint about a suspected drunk driver. As part of the investigation, deputies went to a residence in the 23600 block of SW Mountain Home Road near Sherwood. Deputies contacted an adult female and attempted to take her into custody for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The woman resisted arrest, at which point her husband armed himself with a gun and threatened to shoot deputies.
