DCSO Responds to Bend Municipal Airport for Aircraft Blocking Runway After Hard Landing

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/31/18 On July 31st, DCSO Deputies responded to a report of an aircraft that suffered damage after a "hard landing" and was blocking an active runway. Deputies arrived to find a 2018 Cub Crafter FX280 with a collapsed wheel strut and resting on it left wing tip. The pilot, Michael Herzong, 75, of Bend, was the only person on board during the incident. Herzong departed from Hood River enroute to Bend after taking delivery of the aircraft earlier the same day. Upon landing at the Bend Municipal Airport, the strut failed and collapsed, causing aircraft wing and tail contact the runway. This surface contact caused the aircraft to make a “ground loop” or rapid horizontal rotation before coming rest on the runway where a small amount of fuel leaked from the aircraft. DUII/ Manslaughter Traffic Crash

Beaverton Police Dept.  - 07/31/18  On July 28, 2018 at 2:51 a.m. a Beaverton Police officer witnessed a vehicle traveling westbound on SW Farmington Road near SW 142nd at an extremely high rate of speed. As the officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, it crashed head-on into a tree near the intersection of SW Farmington Rd/SW Murray Blvd. The vehicle hit the tree with such force that it removed the engine and front axle from the vehicle. The engine came to rest five lanes of travel away from the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by two people, 21-year-old Jonathan Guzman of Salem, OR and 36-year-old Ariana Salgado-Gaudarrama of Unincorporated Washington County. Ms. Salgado-Gaudarrama suffered severe injuries and passed away on scene. Mr. Guzman was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Hillsboro Police Seeks Public's Help in Locating Missing Person

Hillsboro Police Dept.  - 07/31/18  The Hillsboro Police Department requests the public’s assistance in locating a missing man with developmental disabilities. Jacob Wallace, 22, was last seen leaving his apartment on July 8 in the 600 block of N.E. Autumn creek Way.  He may be traveling to Dallas, Oregon to visit family.  Wallace has the cognitive function of a 5-12-year-old child, and he commonly wears athletic shorts and t-shirts.  Anyone with information on Wallace’s whereabouts is asked to call Hillsboro Police at 503-629-0111.

Natural Cover Fire - Reservoir Hill - 7-31-18

Roseburg Fire Department  - 07/31/18  At 8:28 a.m. on July 31, 2018, Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to natural cover fire at NE Bellview Court at Stephens Street.  Numerous calls reported the fire being located on Reservoir Hill near the water towers.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fast moving grass fire near the top of Reservoir Hill.  Although access to the site was steep and difficult, firefighters from the Roseburg Fire Department and Douglas Forest Protective Association quickly extinguished the fire, halting the spread to nearby structures located at the top of the hill.  The grass fire was approximately half an acre in size.  Fire investigators were on scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.   The Roseburg Fire Department would like to remind everyone to use extreme causing when disposing of smoking materials or any other potential sources of ignition.  With higher temperatures and lower humidity, grass, bushes, and dry bark mu

Roseburg Man Drowns at South Umpqua Falls

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office  - 07/31/18  TILLER, Ore.  - A Roseburg man drowned Sunday afternoon at South Umpqua Falls.  A 9-1-1 call was received by the Douglas County 9-1-1 center at approximately 3:30 on Sunday, July 29, 2018 reporting a man had possibly drowned while visiting the South Umpqua Falls. Emergency crews responded to the scene along with Forest Service personnel.  Lifesaving measures were attempted by bystanders and responders.Depsite the efforts, 18 year-old Samuel R. Alford of Roseburg died at the scene.  Witnesses reported seeing Alford at the top of the falls alone and then later finding him in the water.  The Sheriff's Office responded along with Bay Cities Ambulance, United States Forest Service, Riddle, Milo, Tiller and South Umpqua Fire Departments.

South Umpqua Complex Wildfire News – 18 hrs. ago COMMUNITY MEETING  TILLER RFPD STATION TUESDAY JULY 31, 2018 6:30 PM Fire fighters have been able to increase containment on te South Umpqua Complex to 16% in spite of the steep terrain, dry fuels, hot temperatures, and active fire behavior. A burnout was initiated along the north side of the Miles Fire to strengthen fire lines. This burnout was successful and held within containment lines. Miles Fire burned actively after 4 PM and through the night. Embers from the main fire blew to the south, starting spot fires toward Ragsdale Butte and Gobblers Knob. Columbus Fire mop-up continues along the west edge while preparation and burnout are underway along the north and south sides. A dozer that was prepositioned in anticipation of active fire behavior was utilized to contain a spot fire that came out of Squaw Creek.
