Mother and Father swept out to sea near Depoe Bay

Oregon State Police  - 09/10/18 On September 9, 2018 at approximately 5:30 PM, Oregon State Police, Depoe Bay Fire and Rescue, and the United States Coast Guard responded to a report of two people who had been swept into the Pacific Ocean off Otter Crest Loop Near Depoe Bay. The two were located and transported to Samaritan Pacific Hospital, in Newport, where they were pronounced deceased. Investigators learned Miaochan Chen (age 49 from Lake Oswego-male) and Wenjun Zhu (age 41 from Lake Oswego-female) were visiting the Oregon Coast with their 10 year old daughter. The group were picnicking off Otter Crest Loop when Chen , Zhu, and their daughter took a trail down to rocks which overlooked the ocean. A wave washed over the rocks and swept Chen and Zhu into the ocean. Their daughter was unharmed. The United State Coast launched a helicopter from Newport and a 47 ft motor life boat from Depoe Bay. Beaverton Police Dept.  - 09/10/18  UPDATE: On September 10, 2018 at approximately 8:45 a.m. Beaverton Police officers learned 11-year-old Erik Derby had been found safe at a friend’s house. Beaverton Police Department would like to thank our community members who helped share this story via social media outlets, helped look for Erik, and our media partners. Beaverton Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 11-year-old boy. Erik Derby was last seen at Fir Grove Elementary School, located at 6300 SW Wilson Ave., around 8:30 pm on Sunday, September 9th, 2018. Erik has brown hair and is 4 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a blueish-grey sweatshirt. The 142nd Fighter Wing to host, conduct dissimilar air combat training

Oregon Military Department  - 09/09/18  PORTLAND, Oregon  – The Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter Wing will host EA-18G Growler aircraft from the VAQ-132 out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, September 10-19, 2018, to conduct dissimilar air combat training (DACT).  The EA-18s will arrive at the Portland Air National Guard Base this week. DACT provides realistic combat scenarios for pilots to hone advanced aerial tactics that may be used against potential adversaries. The training is an essential and required component to ensure military readiness in support of the base’s national and state missions. Flights will depart from and land at the Portland International Airport. Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash (Silverton)

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office  - 09/09/18  UPDATE-  Today at 12:31 p.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office were called to the intersection of 81st Ave NE and Silverton Road NE after a motorcycle and SUV collided. Deputies believe an SUV was traveling north and attempting to cross Silverton Road when it collided with a motorcycle traveling west on Silverton Road NE.   Sadly the motorcyclist was killed instantly, the driver of the SUV was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.  The road was closed for several hours while specialized investigators with the CRASH Team investigated.  Silverton Road NE has reopened and investigators are seeking any witnesses to the collision.  If you were a witness to the collision you are asked to call 503 588 5032.  The Sheriff's Office will not be releasing either drivers name until Monday.  There are no further details available at this time.       **************PREVIOUS RELEASE**************** The Marion Cou

Single vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 26 near Unity - Baker County

Oregon State Police  - 09/09/18  On Saturday, September 8, 2018 at approximately 1:50 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 26 near mile post 200. Investigation revealed that a 2015 Ford F-150, operated by Gordon WAITE (39) of Medford, was traveling eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve.  The vehicle rolled down and embankment, striking several trees before coming to rest.  WAITE sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP was assisted by the Grant County Sheriff's Department and ODOT.

Oregon State Police  - 09/09/18  On Saturday, September 8, 2018 at approximately 1:50 AM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 281 near milepost 4.5. Investigation reveals that a 1998 Ford F-150 PU, operated by James TICKNER (22) of Parkdale, was southbound on Hwy 281 when the vehicle left the roadway, went through a ditch, struck and embankment before crossing over Blackburn Rd before coming to rest and catching fire. TICKNER sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Speed and substance use are believed to be contributing factors. Oregon State Police was assisted by the Hood River County Sheriff's Department, Parkdale Fire Department, and ODOT.

Fire Destroys Auto Body Shop in Forest Grove

Forest Grove Fire & Rescue  - 09/08/18 Just after 12:30pm on Saturday September 8th, Forest Grove Firefighters were dispatched to a reported commercial fire in the 1800 block of C Street. While firefighters were walking to the apparatus in the station, they saw a large column of smoke and requested a full 1st Alarm response (indicated a confirmed fire). Minutes later they arrived to find an auto repair shop fully engulfed with flames. Crews attacked the flames from the exterior due to unsafe conditions, which included a collapsed roof. An additional ladder truck was brought to the scene to join a ladder truck already on scene to fight the flames safely from the air. It took firefighters approximately 45 minutes after arrival to knock down the flames and consider the fire under control. Firefighters were hampered on scene by two situations. Serious Injury Crash On Hwy 140 (Southside Bypass) - Klamath County

Oregon State Police  - 09/08/18  On September 7, 2018 at approximately 11:15 A.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a serious injury crash on Hwy 140 near mile post 1.  Investigation reveals that a Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Judith ALVAREZ (28) of Klamath Falls, was westbound  crossing over the Klamath River Bridge when for unknown reasons it crossed into the path of a Kenworth cement truck, operated by George COWAN (49) of Klamath Falls.  COWAN attempted to avoid the collision by driving into the bridge barrier,  despite those attempts a near head on collision occurred.  An Oregon State Police Detective was in the area, arrived on scene and was able to perform potentially life saving first aid on ALVAREZ before advanced medical assistance could arrive.  ALVAREZ was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center for life threatening injuries. Driver of log truck dies in single vehicle crash - Hwy 22W (Hebo Hwy) - Yamhill County

Oregon State Police  - 09/08/18  On September 7, 2018 at approximately 5:00 P.M.  Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a log truck that had run off the road on Hwy 22 W near mile post 20. Investigation reveals that a 1992 Peterbilt truck, operated by Ronald Lee TAYLOR (81) of La Grande, drove off the road and struck a tree.  TAYLOR was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation is continuing, but it appears that TAYLOR possibly suffered a medical event which led to the vehicle being driven off the road. Oregon State Police was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon  - 09/08/18  The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for the public's help in solving at 2009 homicide. On September 8, 2009, at 4:04 p.m., Portland Police officers from North Precinct were dispatched to 6956 North Fessenden Street, Apartment #5, on a welfare check of 50-year-old Jeanine Michelle Toth. Jeanine was supposed to attend a Labor Day family barbecue but when she didn't make it, her family and friends became concerned and called police. Officers arrived at the apartment and found Jeanine's body inside. Homicide detectives responded and immediately began an investigation into Jeanine's death. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that Jeanine died of multiple stab wounds. Boom Truck Service Vehicle Tears Down Power Lines and Poles

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 09/08/18 On September 7, 2018 at 5:30 pm, a roof truss delivery boom truck owned and operated by Oregon Truss Company out of Dayton, Oregon, struck multiple power lines while travelling south on Pine Street. The driver of the boom truck had completed a delivery on North Pine Street near Barclay Drive and had failed to lower the boom crane onto the carrying cradle before leaving the job site. The boom caught a small wire near the intersection of Main Avenue and Pine Street, ripping it in half and flinging it onto the edges of the road. No wires were found arching on the roadway. The truck continued south on Pine Street and crossed the intersection of Hwy 20/Cascade Avenue, where it then caught a full set of wires/communication cables that ran across Pine Street mid-block at the alley. Gresham Police Dept  - 09/07/18  Gresham, Ore. – Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 55-year-old woman last seen on Aug. 29. Diana Bober is an avid hiker and family is worried that something may have happened to her while hiking. She is known to frequent the Gorge and Mount Hood area. Bober has red hair, hazel eyes, is approximately 5-feet-4-inches tall and 115 pounds. She drives a black 1996 Mazda Miata with Oregon plate 324HPJ. Wanted Man Captured At Area Hotel

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 09/07/18  On September 7, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Negotiation Team (TNT) took Marcos Jaimes-Radilla into custody. This morning, detectives with the Beaverton Police Department received information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Jaimes-Radilla. He was peacefully taken into custody in the parking lot of a southwest Portland hotel. Last month, deputies asked for the public’s help in locating Mr. Jaimes-Radilla. Mr. Jaimes-Radilla was lodged at the Washington County Jail on three outstanding warrants. Additionally, he was charged with one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the media, the public, and the Beaverton Police Department for their assistance in this case. The original release is below. Man Jailed After Assault, Standoff

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office  - 09/07/18  GOLD HILL, Ore. – A Gold Hill man is in jail Friday after reportedly assaulting a woman and then barricading himself in his home with two children.  Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies arrested the man after a three-hour standoff.  On September 6, 2018, at 10:10 p.m., JCSO deputies responded to a home in the 1100-block of Fourth Avenue, Gold Hill, for a report of a domestic violence incident.  The female victim came outside to meet deputies.  She had injuries consistent with an assault. The suspect, Cody Everett Banks, 25, refused to speak with deputies and barricaded himself inside the home with the couple’s two children.  Banks made statements regarding having a firearm.    The JCSO SWAT team responded to assist.  Deputies and SWAT members attempted to negotiate with Banks to exit the residence .  Banks refused to comply. Crime Stoppers of Oregon  - 09/07/18  The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a 2009 homicide in Glendale, Oregon. In in the early evening hours of Thursday, October 1, 2009, in Glendale, Oregon, an unknown person entered a home at 6134 Azalea Glen Road and shot the resident, 88-year-old Helen Berleta Long, and her daughter, 59-year-old Barbara Lea Tooley of Damascus, Oregon. Tooley died at the scene. Long suffered serious injuries requiring extensive medical treatment. Long passed away in March 2013 at the age of 91. Detectives do not have any leads or known reason why Tooley and Long may have been the target of violence. The suspect is described to be an adult male of average height, thin build, wearing a dark (possibly fake) beard. One person dies in three vehicle crash on Hwy 126E (Lane County)

Oregon State Police  - 09/06/18 On September 5, 2018 at approximately 2:22 PM Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a three vehicle crash on Hwy 126E at the Deerhorn Rd. intersection. Investigation revealed that 2007 Lexus G35, operated by Guido VILLENA (86) of Springfield, was attempting to turn onto Hwy 126E from Deerhorn Rd.  VILLENA pulled into the path of a 2014 Isuzu sanitation truck, operated by Mathew PEACOCK (29) of Springfield, causing a collision.  A 2015 Jeep Cherokee, operated by Jason MILLER (29) of Arizona, was westbound on Hwy 126E and unable to avoid the initial collision. VILLENA sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Oregon State Police was assisted by ODOT, Springfield Fire Department, and the Mckenzie Fire Department.

Quick Thinking Lebanon Teen Puts Out Kitchen Fire

Lebanon Fire District  - 09/06/18  At 12:03 pm Monday the Lebanon Fire District was dispatched for a fire alarm at a residence located at 39933 Mt Hope Drive. Upon arrival crews were met by the occupant who advised that they had a grease fire which they believed was out. The crew of Engine 31 advised the family that they would check it out for them to ensure there was no extension or hidden fire. A thorough scan with the thermal imaging camera revealed that the fire was indeed completely out. According to the homeowner, there was a pan that was on the stove which had caught fire when the resident went outside and lost track of time. She was in the yard when she noticed smoke coming from the roof vent connected to the range hood. She ran back into the house to check on what was burning and found the pan burning on the stovetop. She attempted to put a lid on the pan (the correct first step!) but it was not big enough to cover the whole pan. Meanwhile, at the same time, her son Chase P

Homicide Investigation Underway on N Marine Dr. - One Person Deceased

Portland Police Bureau  - 09/05/18  On Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 1:01 a.m., Portland Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the 6200 block of North Marine Drive. As firefighters battled the car fire they located what was believed to be a deceased person inside the vehicle and requested North Precinct officers respond to the scene. Members with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Homicide Detail have responded to assume this suspicious death investigation. Criminalist with the Forensic Evidence Division also responded to assist with this investigation. The Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer will not be responding to the scene. The investigation is in its early stages and there is no additional information to provide at this time. Updates are expected to be provided as they are learned later today. Felon Arrested In Possession Of Firearm

Beaverton Police Dept.  - 09/04/18  On September 3, 2018 at 8:36 a.m. Beaverton Police Officers arrested 22-year-old Rafael Tovar-Juarez near SW Allen Blvd/SW Main Ave.  An officer witnessed Mr. Tovar-Juarez commit a pedestrian violation in the intersection of SW Allen/SW Main.  The officer stopped Mr. Tovar-Juarez to inquire about the violation.  Mr. Tovar-Juarez lied about his identity but officers were able to positively identify him as Rafael Tovar-Juarez.  Officers found Mr. Tovar-Juarez had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Washington County Circuit Court for failing to appear on a Forgery in the First Degree charge.  During a search of Mr. Tovar-Juarez’s person, officers found a loaded firearm concealed in Mr. Tovar-Juarez’s waistband.  Due to Mr. Tovar-Juarez’s criminal history he was not legally allowed to possess a firearm.  Mr. Tovar-Juarez was taken to Washington County Jail and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Providi

Oregon State Police  - 09/04/18  The victim of the homicide has been identified as Jon Batters (70) of Grants Pass, OR. Investigation is ongoing. On August 29, 2018 at approximately 5:25 PM deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of deceased male at a residence on Riverbanks Rd.  Upon arrival deputies located the body of an adult male at the residence.  Josephine County requested a Major Crimes Team activation and the Oregon State Police was assigned to lead the investigation. Investigation is continuing and no further information will be released at this time.  

Single vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 395 (Umatilla County)

Oregon State Police  - 09/04/18  On Monday, September 3, 2018 at approximately 2:56 PM, Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on US Hwy 395 at milepost 53.1. The preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2016 Dodge Ram operated by Alexander Ionita, age 62, of Salem, OR. was traveling north bound on US Hwy 395.  Ionita failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the road and rolled down an embankment into Camas Creek.  Ionita was wearing a seatbelt but sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP was assisted by the Ukiah QRT and ODOT.

Pedestrian injured after being struck by vehicle that fled - Hwy 126E (Lane County)

Oregon State Police  - 09/04/18 On Monday, September 3, 2018 at approximately 8:45 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a hit and run collision on Hwy 126E near milepost 47.5 Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle, described as a silver or metallic gray Chevy Astro Van or similar looking vehicle,  was traveling westbound and struck a pedestrian, John S. Houdeshell (71) from Yreka, CA, who was crossing the highway.   Houdeshell sustained critical injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at River Bend in Springfield.    Suspect vehicle fled the scene and remains unidentified. Hwy 126E was partially closed for three hours following the collision.  OSP was assisted by Lane County Sheriff's Office, Upper McKenzie Fire Department and ODOT. Hugo Road Fire Update September 3, 2018

Oregon State Fire Marshal  - 09/03/18  A force of over 200 firefighters have lined the entirety of the Hugo Road Fire’s perimeter, boosting containment to 30 percent. While gusty winds are still causing minor flare-ups throughout the footprint of the fire, crews are gridding the landscape in order to keep the fire in check. The fire, burning on private lands approximately ten miles north-northwest of Grants Pass in the community of Hugo has been mapped at 199 acres in size. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Goals accomplished today include completing and securing the perimeter control line, mopping up 100 feet in and around structures, mopping up 100 feet from all impacted roadways, and completing a thorough structure assessment for the Hugo Road Fire. Tonight, night shift will continue mopping up from the exterior of the fire’s perimeter moving inward, as well as around structures. Three subjects jump into irrigation canal to avoid contact with Detectives

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 09/03/18 On 9/3/18 at approximately 8:58 A.M., Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit (SCU) Detectives were in the area of Comet Lane and High Desert Lane, when they observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and acting in a suspicious manner.  SCU Detectives attempted to follow the vehicle, however it accelerated away from the area to avoid contact with the Detectives.  It is believed the subjects knew they had been observed by law enforcement. SCU Detectives drove through the area of NE Brinson BLVD and Peerless Court, when they saw some dust flying in the roadway.  This made the Detectives believe the vehicle they were looking for had driven southbound on Peerless Court.   SCU Detectives then located a vehicle parked at 62880  Peerless Court and saw the subjects running around the northeast corner of the business and go south.  The Detectives exited their vehicle and attempted to locate the subjects.   As Detectiv

OSP looking for witnesses to crash on Hwy 97 - 5 miles north of Madras

Oregon State Police  - 09/03/18 On September 2, 2018 at approximately 5:15 PM an Orange Subaru Cross Trek (photo attached for reference) was northbound on Hwy 97 when it was passed by a late model dark color sedan.  The sedan cut in front of the Subaru forcing the operator to swerve and brake hard to avoid a collision.  The Subaru left the roadway, crashed through a fence and caught fire in a field.  The operator was transported to an area hospital with injuries. OSP requesting public's assistance in elk poaching case near Reedsport (Douglas County)

Oregon State Police  - 09/03/18  The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s help to identify the person(s) responsible for the unlawful taking of a bull elk in Douglas County. On the evening of August 31st, 2018, OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers responded to a report that a 6-point bull elk had been shot with an arrow and left to waste in the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area, outside of Reedsport. The investigation revealed the elk had been killed around 7:00 PM that evening, and no effort was made by the person(s) involved to harvest any of the meat from the animal. Hugo Road Fire Declared a Conflagration

Oregon State Fire Marshal  - 09/03/18 Governor Kate Brown has declared the Hugo Road Fire, burning near Grants Pass, a conflagration just before midnight on September 2, 2018. The declaration cleared the way for the state fire marshal to mobilize firefighters and equipment to assist local resources battling the fire. The Office of State Marshal’s Red Incident Management Team and four structural task forces from Marion, Lane, Linn, and Klamath will arrived today and began working to protect structures. Hugo Road Fire Update PM 09/02/18

ODF Southwest Oregon District 9/2/2018 Firefighters are working hard to slow the forward progress of the  # HugoRoadFire  in Hugo, burning west of Interstate 5 near exit 66. A grass fire was called in at approximately 7:15 this evening and is anticipated to have grown to 150 acres within just a few hours. Firefighters from multiple agencies, helicopters, and air tankers were able to attack this fire aggressively from the start. However, aerial resources had to be grounded when the sun went down. Tonight, we have five dozers, six hand crews, 10 engines and multiple water tenders fighting the fire. Firefighters are hoping to completely line the fire tonight and keep the fire in check tomorrow. Crews are facing extreme fire behavior, wind gusts, steep terrain, and dry fuels throughout the entire area of the fire. American Red Cross - Cascades Region  - 09/02/18  The Red Cross has opened a shelter for wildfire evacuees in Grants Pass, Oregon, due to the fire near Hugo.  The shelter is located at: Josephine County Fairground Arts and Crafts Building 1451 Fairgrounds Road Grants Pass, OR 97527 Individuals and families affected by the wildfire and in need of shelter assistance are encouraged to simply show up at the shelter for help. The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. Fire Spreads to 18 Units at Hillsboro Storage Facility

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue  - 09/02/18 A fire that started in one storage unit did significant damage to another 17 at Secure Storage in Hillsboro Sunday afternoon. Firefighters on Engine 5, Truck 5 and Engine 6 arrived to find flames coming from 6 units on the end of the building housing multiple storage units of various sizes. After 20 minutes of cutting through the metal doors of 18 storage units, and spraying water on the fast moving flames firefighters had the fire under control. The fire was called in by the owner of the storage unit where the initial fire broke out. Upon noticing smoke and seeing active fire, he evacuated the space and called 9-1-1 once he was safely outside. A Hillsboro Fire Investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate is available at this time. A total of 25 Hillsboro Fire personnel responded to the fire.
