Police K9 Captures Wanted Subject

Roseburg Police Dept.   On May 9th, 2019 at approximately 2300 hours, Roseburg Police K9 Nike and his handler were called to assist with trying to locate a wanted fugitive in the 5000 block of Eagle Valley Road.  The suspect, 22 year old Trevor Slater of Roseburg, fled on foot from a traffic stop when DCSO Deputies pulled him over. A citizen in the 5100 block of Eagle Valley reported Slater was at their door, but was scared off by their dogs.  K9 Nike tracked Slater through blackberries, across a creek, and up a hillside but he continued to elude capture.  A neighbor in the 5200 block of Eagle Valley called and said their motion light had activated.  K9 Nike continued searching and eventually tracked to a large barn in the area.  As they checked the second floor of the barn, K9 Nike and his handler found Slater hiding under a bale of hay.  Slater gave up when confronted with Nike barking at him.  Slater was ultimately arrested by DCSO and charged with a Parole Violation, Unlawful

Natural Cover Fire - 1700 Block of SE Mill Street - 5-10-19

Roseburg Fire Department On May 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure and trees on fire in the 1700 block of SE Mill Street.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a brush fire that quickly spread to nearby lumbar piles. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, halting the spread to a nearby shed and other structures.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A total of 6 firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Umpqua Valley Ambulance and the Roseburg Police Department.

Airplane Crash -- Roseburg Municipal Airport -- 5-10-19

Roseburg Fire Department At 1:22 PM on May 10, 2019, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported airplane crash at the Roseburg Municipal Airport.  The reporting party stated the plane was on its side and facing south about midway down the runway.  Upon arrival, firefighters found a single engine plane on its left side adjacent to the mid portion of the runway with both wheels in the down position with one wheel damaged.  The pilot, Malcolm Dayton, was the only occupant of the airplane and was not injured.  The pilot was outside the airplane upon arrival.  The type of aircraft is unknown at this time.     A total of 6 firefighters assisted with scene operations.  Other agencies assisting with the incident included Umpqua Valley Ambulance and the Roseburg Police Department.

Fatal Vehicle Collision

Roseburg Police Dept.   On Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at approximately 1451 hours, emergency personnel from the Roseburg Fire Department and Roseburg Police Department responded to a two vehicle collision in the 3800 block of Highway 138 east.  It was reported a pickup truck and a passenger car were involved in a head on collision in that area. The driver of the passenger car, 38 year old Sherri Hu of Myrtle Creek, was transported to Mercy Hospital via ambulance for very serious injuries.  Unfortunately, Hu succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital.  The driver of the pickup truck was a 17 year old male from Roseburg.  He was also transported to Mercy via ambulance and treated for his injuries, and later released. Deputies and DHS Seek Help in Locating a Wanted Man and His 3-Year-Old Child

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Human Services (DHS) are asking for the public’s help in locating Gaige Burnes (date of birth: July 6, 1993) and his three-year-old son, Colt Burnes. Gaige currently has a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and is suspected to be transient in the Hillsboro area, possibly near Shute Park. Gaige’s son, Colt, is believed to be with him.  DHS currently has a Protective Custody Order for Colt.  Due to past incidents, DHS believes Colt could be in harm's way or not receiving the care he needs. Anyone with information about Gaige or Colt Burnes is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at (503) 629-0111.  Deputies ask the public not to confront Gaige if they see him in public. DHS currently has custody of Colt and has given permission to use Colt’s picture for media purposes. This is the best photo available of Colt.

Texas Man Pleads Guilty for Role in Interstate Marijuana Trafficking Conspiracy

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon   PORTLAND, Ore.—Trent Lamar Knight, 31, of Houston, Texas, pleaded guilty today for his role in a conspiracy to traffic marijuana grown in Portland to Texas. Drug proceeds, in the form of bulk U.S. currency, were returned to Oregon via U.S. mail and passenger luggage on commercial airlines. As part of this investigation, federal authorities have seized approximately 11,000 marijuana plants, 546 pounds of processed marijuana, more than $2.8 million in cash, 51 firearms, 26 vehicles, trailers, pieces of heavy equipment, a yacht, and three houses used as marijuana grow sites, all since August 2017. Judge returns verdict in State of Oregon v. Michael Laney

Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office On May 7, 2019, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Souede found 73-year-old Michael Laney guilty of four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. Judge Souede also acquitted Laney of three counts of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. As stated in court documents, Laney was a former vice president for the Walt Disney Company. During the six-day trial, the state presented evidence showing that in March 2017, a minor female child disclosed she had been sexually abused by the defendant. The disclosure was initially reported to law enforcement in Washington State where the victim resided at the time of her disclosure. The Portland Police Bureau’s Child Abuse Team was notified and assumed responsibility of the investigation after it was determined that the abuse had occurred within the City of Portland, starting in approximately 2009 when the victim was about seven years of age. Sandy Police Dept. The Sandy Police Department is seeking the public's help locating David Burch, 53, of Sandy. Mr. Burch left his home on 5/5/19 and was last in contact with friends and family late that evening. Officers are concerned Mr. Burch may be considering suicide. He has connections in Southern Oregon, Idaho, and Texas. He may be hitchhiking, traveling by rideshare service, or by bus. Forest Grove Police Arrest Gresham Resident for Sexual Abuse

Forest Grove Police On April 30, 2019 Ronald Jordan, age 71, was arrested by the Forest Grove Police Department at his residence in Gresham, OR for Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and Sex Abuse in the 3rd Degree. Jordan was subsequently charged with an additional five counts of Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and four counts of Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree. The arrest and additional charges was the culmination of an investigation that began in February, 2019 and involved a minor victim. Jordan has resided in Washington County, Clackamas County, and Yamhill County. The Forest Grove Police Department suspects that there may be more victims. Investigators are seeking additional information from any persons who may have knowledge of Jordan’s activities.

Attempt to Elude/Motor Vehicle Crash

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On Tuesday May 7th, 2019 at 10:40 am, a Patrol Deputy from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office made contact with a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the roadway in the 1200 block of Stringer Gap Road.  The Deputy observed a male subject slumped over the steering wheel.  The Deputy approached the vehicle and knocked on the window.  The male subject then fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed running over the deputy’s foot in the process.   The Deputy pursued the suspect until the suspects driving became too dangerous to the public.  The Deputy discontinued the pursuit in the Jerome Prairie area. While checking the area for the suspect vehicle, the Deputy found it crashed and unoccupied in the 4400 block of Redwood Avenue.  The suspect vehicle had also struck an occupied work van which was parked in a driveway, injuring the driver.    With the help of bystanders, the Deputy was able to locate the suspect and engage him in a foot pursui

Deputies Respond to Multiple Victim Shooting ***Update 2 Suspects in Custody***

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On May 6th, at approximately 10:15 pm deputies were dispatched to the report of a shooting in the 3600 block of Joshua Av NE, Salem.  When deputies arrived on scene, they located three victims of the shooting who have since been identified. Bradley Kelley, 35, of Salem was found deceased at the scene.  Two additional victims were transported to Salem Hospital by medics.  Michael Buntjer, 35, of Salem succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.  The third victim, Coral Olfert, a 26 year-old female from Salem, has non-life threatening injuries. Autopsies on both deceased victims were conducted earlier today by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.   Both deaths have been ruled homicides as a result of gunshot wounds. Transient Camp Fire

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 At 7:28 p.m. Monday evening Douglas County Fire District No.2 was dispatched to a reported natural cover fire in the 1800 block of SE Mill Street near the transient camps.  The first DCFD2 fire crew arrived on scene to find trash debris and approximately 1/3 of an acre of brush and grass on fire. Fire crews were able to get the fire under control at 7:42 pm and contain it to a small area. As additional personnel arrived on scene they continued to put out hot spots in the trash debris left behind at the transient camp. The railroad did not sustain any damage from the fire. The fire was reported by several people in the area, some reports stated there were two subjects in the area when the fire started. DCFD2 responded to this incident with 1 fire engine, 2 brush rigs, and 1 command unit.

Deputies Respond to Multiple Victim Shooting

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On May 6th, at approximately 10:15 pm deputies were dispatched to the report of a shooting in the 3600 block of Joshua Av NE, Salem.  When deputies arrived on scene, they located one person who was deceased and two others with injuries who were transported to a local hospital.  One of those transported has since died.  The remaining survivor is in stable condition. Detectives have been investigating throughout the night and are continuing to follow investigative leads.  No suspect information is available at this time. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, Marion County Medical Examiner’s Office, Oregon State Police, Keizer Police Department, and Woodburn Police Department.

DOUBLE FATAL CRASH HIGHWAY 138E NEAR GLIDE (DOUGLAS COUNTY)

Oregon State Police Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon’s double fatal crash that occurred on Highway 138E near Glide. On Sunday May 5, 2019 at approximately 1:00PM, (OSP) Troopers and Emergency Responders were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 138E at milepost 20. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chrysler PT Cruiser operated by, Kelley WEEKLY (female), age 42, from Klamath Falls, was traveling westbound on Hwy 138E when for an unknown reason it veered off the roadway and impacted a tree.  WEEKLY and passenger Scott CARNES, age 49, from Klamath Falls, were pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. Both WEEKLY and CARNES were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.  Traffic was not impacted by the crash. OSP was assisted by the Glide Fire department, ODOT, Joe’s towing, and Chapel of the Roses.

Susan Creek Fire

Douglas Forest Protective Association Fire crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Glide Rural Fire Department are on scene of a natural cover fire approximately 9 miles east of Glide, near Susan Creek Road. The Susan Creek Fire was reported to the Douglas County 911 Communicant Center as an escaped debris burn, Saturday afternoon, at approximately 3:50 p.m. Currently, the Susan Creek Fire is estimated to be 25 acres in size and burning primarily in logging  slash, brush, and young trees. Firefighters working on the Susan Creek Fire are using two bulldozers to create fire lines around the blaze while ground resources install hose lays around the fire to cool the perimeter. The Incident Commander anticipates that fire lines will be completed around the fire by the end of the day and reports that fire activity is diminishing as nightfall approaches and anticipates little growth potential. Arrest Made in Coastal Sexual Assault Cases

Sheriff's Office REEDSPORT, Ore.   - A Reedsport man has been arrested in connection with two sexual assaults which took place on the coast in Douglas County.   On Saturday, May 4, 2019, detectives contacted 63 year-old Reedsport resident Edward Owen Spalione at his residence. The investigation indicated Spalione as a person of interest. Evidence was collected at Spalione’s residence and he was ultimately arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on the following charges: Sexual Penetration 1st Degree x2 Kidnapping 1st Degree x2 Assault 2nd Degree x2 Sexual Abuse 1st Degree x2 Menacing x2 Spalione was arrested in connection to the assault which took place last Sunday at Carter Lake while a woman was walking her dog. Small shipwreck ashore on south Oregon coast drawing response from state and federal agencies

Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept. Bandon OR -- A 64-foot wood and fiberglass fishing vessel, the Ann Kathleen out of Westport, Washington, caught fire while at sea Thursday, May 2, off the southern Oregon coast south of Bandon. The crew abandoned the vessel and were eventually rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. No injuries were reported. The boat came aground in a remote area of beach north of Floras Lake at low tide late Thursday. Debris from the boat, which is no longer actively burning, is resting on the beach as of Friday morning, May 3. A team from the U.S. Coast Guard, local fire department, and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will evaluate the site for toxic materials and develop any necessary response plan to protect the beach and nearby shorebird nesting area. Fatal shooting investigation at 13th and Kincaid

Eugene Police Department At 1:44 a.m. today, May 4, Central Lane 911 received multiple calls regarding shots fired at 13th and Kincaid, in the parking lot behind Taylor’s Bar and Grill, 894 E. 13th Avenue. University of Oregon Police Department and Eugene Police Department responded and found a person on the ground with life-threatening injury from a gunshot wound. They immediately rendered emergency medical aid, but the person died at the scene. EP D secured scene with UOPD. Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Unit joined patrol on scene and the investigation is continuing. The victim’s name is being withheld until the family can be notified. Suspect Charged with Murder

Medford Police Dept. On May 3rd, 2019 at about 3:30 p.m., Medford Police Detectives lodged the suspect in this case, Justin Lee Graham-Yaeger, 33, for one count of Murder, no bail. Graham-Yaeger was provided medical treatment for the K9 bite that occurred during arrest. After he was released from the hospital, he was interviewed and lodged in Jackson County Jail. Graham-Yaeger's address is listed as transient. He is also on Post-Prison Supervision for Burglary and Felon in Possession of a Weapon out of Jackson County Community Justice.  The motive of the murder remains under investigation. Barn Fire on Oakhill road

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 At 6:15 pm Wednesday evening Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 541 Oakhill road. The first arriving crew from the Winchester station arrived on scene at 6:21 pm to find a barn fully involved in fire. The fire was declared under control shortly after additional crews arrived on scene. The structure and all contains were declared a total loss, a vehicle parked near the barn received some damage from the fire. The fire appears to have started by two unattended burn barrels thEy were only a few feet away from the structure. DCFD 2 would like to remind everyone when burning yard debri piles they must be a minimum of 50 feet from any structure, have a water source available, and burn piles must be attended.  DCFD2 responded to this incident with 3 Fire engines, 1 Water tender, and 1 Command unit.

Fire District No.2 Rescues two loggers in the Tyee area

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 At 09:33 Tuesday morning Douglas County Fire District No. 2 was dispatched to a logging accident near the 17000 block of Tyee road in Umpqua. The initial call information reported there was two patients with one of them pinned under a log. DCFD2 Technical Rescue crews arrived on scene at 10:20 to find two patients approximately 800 feet down a steep embankment. Fire crews and EMS personnel made their way down the hill side to assess the patients and to provide medical care while the Technical rescue personnel set up rope systems to extricate the patients from the mountain side. Reach air ambulance found a nearby landing site to assist with patient care and air transport. Both patients were hauled off the mountain in a litter basket with rope systems. Patient number one was flown to Sacred Heart medical center at Riverbend by REACH air ambulance with multiple trauma injuries. Patient number two was transported by Bay Cities Ambulance to Mercy Medica

Stolen Firearm Recovered

Roseburg Police Dept.   On Tuesday evening, April 30th, 2019 the Roseburg Police Department arrested 39 year old Hope Shaw for allegedly stealing a firearm from a Roseburg School District employee's backpack .  While Officers were approaching Shaw on a bridge over the South Umpqua river, she allegedly threw the firearm and at least one firearm magazine, over the railing and into the water.  Shaw was then arrested without incident and lodged at the Douglas County Correctional center on numerous charges related to the theft. On Wednesday, May 1st, the Roseburg Police Department contacted the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team to try and recover the firearm from the river.  After a brief search, the Search and Rescue team located the firearm in the river and it was recovered and is now in police custody.

Hit and Run Crash Involving Child in East Portland

Portland Police Bureau   On Monday, April 29, 2019, at 6:05 p.m., East Precinct Officers responded to Southeast 107th Avenue and Southeast Division Street on a report of a child who had been hit by a vehicle. The involved vehicle and driver sped off. The vehicle was described as a white sedan and an unknown driver was operating the car. It was last seen Eastbound on Division, then possibly Westbound from Southeast 111th Avenue from Powell Boulevard. The 6 year-old female child was treated on scene, then transported to an area hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Preliminary information suggests the child and her mother had activated the lights for the marked cross walk in the intersection and cars had stopped. As they started crossing in the cross walk, the suspect vehicle passed the stopped vehicles on the right hand side, in the bike lane, then struck the child. The vehicle continued without stopping. Bodies of Two Adults Discovered In Early Morning Van Fire

Portland Fire & Rescue   At approximately 6:30am PF&R crews were sent to a reported van fire near the intersection of N Vancouver and N Middlefield Rd. Firefighters reported heavy flames and smoke from a van when they arrived. The fire was extinguished and while searching through the heavily damaged van firefighters discovered the bodies of two adults one male, one female. Several nearby residents confirmed that there were signs that people were living in the van for the previous 2 weeks. A cyclist, reportedly, saw the van on fire prior to arrival of PF&R and attempted to alert anyone potentially inside but the flames were to intense.  Fire investigators are currently processing witness statements, evidence at the scene and communicating with the office of the Medical Examiner to determine cause of death and cause of fire. As soon as those conclusions are available they will be released to the public through update of this press release.

Armed Kidnapping Suspect Arrested by Police

Portland Police Bureau On Sunday, April 29, 2019 at 12:51 P.M., East Precinct officers responded to the 8400 Block of Northeast Broadway on a report of a disturbance where one person involved was threatening at least one other person with a shotgun. As officers responded, they were updated that two people involved in the disturbance were leaving in a blue car. An officer located a vehicle matching that description at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street. Officers from East and North Precincts responded to assist. Due to the information that there was an armed suspect, the officers conducted a high risk stop on the vehicle. Two people were taken into custody. A shotgun was located in the trunk of the vehicle and seized as evidence.  Officers learned that the suspect pointed the shotgun at a victim, who was known to him. The suspect also pointed the shotgun at other people in the area, before ordering the victim into the vehicle and driving away.  Detectives responded

Woman Assaulted at Carter Lake, Detectives Seek Information

Sheriff's Office   DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  – Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are investigating an assault which occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Carter Lake Campground Day Use Area, near the Douglas / Lane County Line, along Highway 101.  The campground is currently still closed for the season. At approximately 1:20 PM, deputies were notified a female, who had been walking her dogs in the day use area of the campground was assaulted by a male who was armed. The male was last seen leaving on Highway 101.  The male was unknown to the victim, but was described as a large person in dark clothing. Statewide K-9 Search and Rescue Training

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  – Search and Rescue K9 teams from around Oregon will converge on Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park this weekend to participate in a training event which begins Friday and ends Sunday. The training is sponsored by the Douglas County Search and Rescue K9 program and is supported by Douglas County Search and Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office. The intention of the event is to provide interaction between teams in a training and exercise environment. Teams will learn new skills, share best practices, network and conduct certification testing. On Friday, teams will begin to arrive and some testing will be held. A night training session will be conducted into the evening. Saturday, the primary training day, will provide training sessions in air scent, trailing and cadaver searching. Several scenarios and sessions will be held throughout the day. It is expected that approximately 40-50 K9 teams will participate in the opportunity.

Garage Fire

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 At 01:45 Thursday morning Douglas County Fire District No.2 was dispatched to a reported garage fire at 1646 San Souci Drive in Roseburg.  The first DCFD2 fire crew arrived at 01:56 from the Melrose Fire Station to find an attached garage filled with smoke. The occupants of the home advised the first arriving crews that everyone was out of the structure and the fire appeared to be in the garage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with a small amount of water before it had a chance to spread to the rest of the home.  Other crews arrived shortly after to assist with overhauling, cooling and the removal of the smoldering debris. The garage and its contents suffered minor damage, but caused no damage to any other parts of the structure. The cause of the fire appears to be started by cigarettes left in an ashtray near storage materials. Police Seek Help Locating Missing Gresham Man

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore. – Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 64-year-old man last seen yesterday. Arthur Pendergraft left his residence, Chestnut Lane assisted living, located at 1219 NE 6th St. He was last seen at the location on April 24th at about 6:30 p.m. He was picked up by a cab and dropped off in the area of SE 122nd Ave and SE Division St in Portland at about 7:03 p.m. His local family have not seen or heard from Arthur. It is unusual for Arthur to not return home at night and not be in contact with his residence or family. Arthur has black hair, brown eyes, is approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall and 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, grey sweatpants and pushing a walker.
