ARREST MADE IN HOMICIDE NEAR JEFFERSON

  Linn County Sheriff's Office Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon reports his detectives made an arrest related to the investigation of a body found on a property in the 38000 block of Densmore Road, Jefferson, Linn County Oregon, reported on December 5, 2020.  Phillip Henry Gurule, 59, of Portland, Oregon, was arrested in connection with the murder of Richard Anderson, 41, of Portland, Oregon. Linn County Detectives worked around the clock, developing a timeline of Anderson’s days and the people associated with him.  Detectives continued to develop information and were assisted by Portland SWAT to serve two search warrants in the Portland area.  On December 17, 2020, at 11:46 pm., detectives served a warrant in 7400 block of SE Henry Place in Portland.  On December 18, 2020, at 1:30 am., an additional warrant was served in the 700 block of SW 11th Avenue in Portland. OSP RESPONDS TO ACTIVITIES AT THE OREGON STATE CAPITOL- MARION COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On December 21, 2020, while dealing with individuals that had gained entry into the Oregon State Capitol, OSP Troopers where sprayed with some kind of chemical agent on 2 different occasions. At 8:30 A.M., when protesters entered that capitol building, at least one of the protesters used chemical agents on the police.  That person is still outstanding.  OSP used inert pepper ball, while dealing with these protestors.  At 10:30 A.M., when there were enough resources available between OSP & Salem Police Department, they started to push the crowd out of the building, when another individual used bear spray against police officers.  That person, who has been identified as Ryan Lyles (41) (see photo), has been taken into custody.  He is being lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges including trespassing and assaulting a police officer. K9 Captures Wanted Person

Springfield Police Department On Saturday December 19th at 9:19pm Officer Bazer stopped 2 vehicles for traffic violations near S 15 and S A St in Springfield.  During the investigation, one of the vehicles fled the scene.  The vehicle was located a short time later hidden off S 16th St and S A St near a storage unit.  As an Officer approached, Hoffer exited the car and ran across South A St.  A foot chase ensued.  Hoffer jumped a fence into the yard of a business in the 1500 block of S A St.  K9 Officer Douglas and his Police dog Nord made entry into the industrial yard and started tracking the suspect.  They began finding blood.  It was later determined Hoffer injured himself in several places while jumping the fence.  K9 Nord led Officers through another fence and into the yard of a neighboring business.  K9 Nord alerted to the bed of a work truck, and Officers found Hoffer trying to hide.  He was slow to respond, but compliant.  He was taken into custody without incident, and treate

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR OVERNIGHT STABBING

Sheriff's Office On Sunday, December 20, 2020, just after midnight, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a stabbing in the 20600 block of SW 65th Av. near Tualatin in unincorporated Washington County. A man showed up at an area hospital and said he had been stabbed at a house. Deputies surrounded the house while the suspect, 48-year-old Astella Smith of Tualatin, was still inside. The interagency Tactical Negotiations Team and Crisis Negotions Unit were activated and came to the scene. A judge signed a warrant ordering deputies to take Ms. Smith into custody and search the home for evidence. Ms. Smith surrendered just before 7 a.m. She was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of assault in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon. Ms. Smith’s bail is set at $250,000. The stabbing victim was treated at the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

Male Arrested after Pursuit and Shots Fired

Medford Police Last night, one of our officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Crater Lake Avenue, near Temple Drive. The officer heard what sounded like a gunshot before the vehicle eluded. During the pursuit, a shotgun was thrown from the vehicle.  With the assistance of Jackson County Sheriff's Office - Oregon, the vehicle was finally spiked and PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) in Prospect.  Anthony Flores, 34 years old, who is a convicted felon, was arrested on numerous charges. The shotgun was recovered and found to have an obliterated serial number.  While the investigation is continuing, officers believe Flores was attempting to hide the shotgun when it accidentally discharged inside the vehicle. We are thankful no one was injured and the suspect was taken into custody.  Great job by all involved.

One Person Killed in Fiery Head-on Crash

  Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 1:50 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a head-on crash at SW Farmington Rd. and SW Riggs Rd. A 2013 Subaru Impreza was on fire after it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2019 Dodge Caravan. The woman driving the van had just finished her shift as a nurse and was able to get out of her van. She realized the Subaru was on fire and the driver was still trapped inside. She was able to flag down other people and together they pulled the man out of the burning car and away from the flames. Deputies arrived along with emergency medical crews but that driver, 24-year-old Dagoberto Flores Ramirez of Cornelius, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Flores Ramirez’s family was notified of his death. The interagency Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to the scene. TWO HOUR STOLEN VEHICLE PURSUIT ENDS WITH ARREST

Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.   - A Portland man is in custody following a two hour slow speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle Thursday afternoon.  On Thursday, December 17, 2020, around 12:00 pm, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black 1991 Toyota Celica which was displaying the wrong license plate on Interstate 5 near milepost 88 northbound. The driver, later identified by law enforcement as 47-year-old Jeffrey Jay Fahey of Portland, failed to stop for the deputy which resulted in a vehicle pursuit. Fahey lead deputies off of Interstate 5, onto Upper Cow Creek Road, through forest roads over the mountain and down onto Tiller Trail Highway at mostly slow speeds. Spike strips were deployed three times, each attempt successful, although Fahey continued to attempt to elude deputies. OSP APPREHENDS MAN WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OUT OF SOUTH CAROLINA

  Oregon State Police OSP Detective, assigned to the FBI Joint Task Force was contacted by Horry County Police Department, South Carolina to assist in locating and apprehending a man wanted for attempted murder of his mother and stealing her car.  The suspect identified as James Shawn Nichol, (48) is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Horry County PD in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service believed the subject may be traveling through Oregon.   On December 17, 2020, at approximately 5:50 P.M., Sgt. Aydelotte and Sr. Troopers Hagendorn and Macy located the suspect in the stolen car at the Baker Valley Rest Area located on the westbound side of I-84 near milepost 295.  The initiated a high risk stop and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The suspect is lodged in Baker County jail on attempted murder warrant.  The stolen vehicle was towed from the scene to be held for the owner. On Monday November 23, 2020, at approximately 2:00 a.m., an unidentified person started a fire at Reo's Ribs, located at 4211 Northeast Sandy Boulevard. OSP SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IN LOCATING A PERSON OF INTEREST-MORROW COUNTY

  Oregon State Police The Oregon State Police has been asked by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Officer to take over a shooting investigation that occurred on December 15, 2020 in Heppner, Oregon- Morrow County. The Morrow County Communications Center received reports of shots fired shortly before 9:30 P.M. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. When Morrow County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrive on scene, they found a 42-year-old female with a gunshot wound.  She was transported to area hospital before being life flighted to OHSU in critical condition. OSP is currently looking for David Bowles as a person of interest in this case. MADRAS METHAMPHETAMINE TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

  U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.—Ronald Wayne Thrasher, 50, a prolific drug dealer from Madras, Oregon with a decades-long criminal history, was sentenced today to 25 years in federal prison followed by five years’ supervised release, announced U.S. Attorney Billy J. TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING STOLEN VEHICLE PURSUIT WEDNESDAY

Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  - On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at about 1:00 pm, a patrol sergeant observed a white Chevy Tahoe missing a front license plate in the 700-block of John Long Road. A DMV check showed the license plate had expired in 2016 and was registered a black Chevy Tahoe.  The driver of the vehicle was acting suspiciously and attempted to avoid deputies. A short time later, the sergeant and a deputy attempted to contact the driver in the parking lot of a business. As they approached, the driver accelerated and attempted to get away striking the deputy's patrol vehicle.  The driver attempted to elude law enforcement as he entered the freeway on-ramp at which point the vehicle rolled onto its side.  The driver, identified as 32 year-old Noah Joel Kuro of Oakland, was detained a short time later. A female passenger, 28 year-old Jessica Nicole Cowart also of Oakland, was also taken into custody.  No injuries were sustained during the incident.  D

MAN ARRESTED AFTER FORCING HIS WAY INTO AN OCCUPIED HOME

Sheriff's Office On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 11:21 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary call at a home in the community of Aloha, near the intersection of SW Willow Creek Court and SW Willow Creek Drive. The residents said they heard knocking at their front door and then realized someone had forced their way inside. The person was wearing a black and red mask, holding a flashlight and a shovel, and identified themselves as a federal agent. Shortly after, the suspect fled on foot but left the shovel they were holding in the home’s front yard. When deputies arrived, they were given a description of the suspect and began searching the area. About 25 minutes after the original burglary call, a community member called dispatch and said someone was trying to break into a vacant home across the street from them.   Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police have identified the victim in Monday night’s shooting as 19-year-old Safia Greenwood of Portland.   Dec. 14 at about 11:00 PM, Gresham Police responded to reports of gunfire at the 1300 block of NE 192nd Ave and located one deceased male and evidence of gunfire.   The East County Major Crimes team has been investigating the circumstances of the death. The autopsy determined the cause of death to be homicide.

  Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On December 16, 2020, at approximately 11:03 am, the Grants Pass Police received a 911 call from employees at Motel 6, located at 1800 NE 7th Street in Grants Pass, Oregon.  They reported a man with a firearm at the location who was yelling at people.  Officer were on the scene quickly and contacted the male outside a motel room.  He was identified as 26-year old Mr. Tyler J. Crist.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Officers learned that Mr. Crist was staying at Motel 6.  Detectives from the Grants Pass Police responded to lead the investigation.  Mr. Crist has been lodged in the Josephine County Jail on the charges of Menacing and Disorderly Conduct.  The investigation is on-going.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Grants Pass Police at 541-450-6260.

COURTHOUSE BURGLARY SUSPECT CAPTURED

Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - Deputies have arrested a man who broke into the Douglas County Courthouse Sunday night.  On Monday, December 14, 2020, deputies were notified of a burglary which had occurred sometime over the weekend. An employee reporting for work at the Courthouse noticed a door which had been damaged and reported it.  Deputies were able to obtain surveillance footage from the Courthouse which showed a male enter the building at approximately 8:00 am on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Deputies processed the scene and collected evidence to further the investigation.  The suspect was later identified as 27 year-old Robert Darnell Kemp of Roseburg.  On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Kemp was contacted in the 200-block of Jackson Street in Roseburg. Additional evidence was collected linking Kemp to the burglary. Sheriff's Office UPDATE #3 12/16/2020 - 8:55 PM DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has been notified by Lumen Technologies that the landline telephone service has been restored in southern Douglas County. Residents should now be able to reach 9-1-1 services from their Lumen landline telephone. UPDATE 12/16/2020 - 3:10 PM DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has learned the outage is also affecting the communities of Canyonville, Azalea and Glendale. Other outlying areas in southern Douglas County are possibly impacted as well.  Several fire departments in the communities are staffed with personnel. If you cannot dial 9-1-1 from the nearest working telephone, you may go to a local fire station in the affected area for assistance.  The Sheriff's Office has learned the outage is due to lines which have been cut. OSP INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING- JOSEPHINE COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Monday, December 14, 2020 at 6:52 A.M., Josephine County Sheriff's Deputies and Troopers responded to the report of a shooting at 200 Corporate way near Merlin in Josephine County. Upon arrival, Kurt Krauss (56), of Grants Pass, was found deceased on scene. The investigation was turned over to the Josephine County Major Crime Team. Oregon State Police (OSP) is the lead investigating agency and is being assisted by the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, and the Josephine County District Attorney's Office. The investigation is active and ongoing. OSP lead investigation into former Klamath Falls Police Department Detective's Arrest- Klamath County

  Oregon State Police On November 27, 2020, at approximately 3:58 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers were dispatched to a multiple vehicle crash at the intersection of South 6th Street and Crater Lake Parkway.  The driver that caused the crash, later identified as, Thomas Dwayne Reif (27) was driving a silver 2013 Dodge Avenger. Reif was a detective with the Klamath Falls Police Department, was on duty at the time of the crash, and was driving his assigned Detective vehicle. Just prior to the crash, Klamath County 911 received a call describing Reif as driving recklessly down South 6th Street. Reif was evaluated at the scene by Klamath County Fire District 1 personnel and found to be unresponsive and not breathing.  He was transported to Sky Lake Medical Center where emergency department personnel were able to quickly stabilize him. FINAL DEFENDANT SENTENCED FOR ROLE IN SERIES OF ROBBERIES TARGETING MARIJUANA TRAFFICKERS

  U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.—The fifth and final member of a robbery crew that stole drugs and money from marijuana traffickers operating in Oregon in a series of violent robberies was sentenced to federal prison today, announced U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams. Marcus Cox, 38, of Eugene, was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to interfering with commerce by robbery and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The crew’s leader, Jorge Rubio, 37, of Reedsport, Oregon, was sentenced on October 29, 2020 to 121 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release for the same charges. Three other crew members have also been sentenced for their roles in the robbery scheme. FAMILY DISPUTE LEADS TO SHOOTING OFF CHINA HAT ROAD.

  Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday December 11, 2020 at around 11:10 AM, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a camp off of China Hat Road in the area of mile post two.  The information given was that Dwayne Dittmer had shot his adult son. Deputies responded to the area and contacted the involved parties. The victim was transported to St. Charles in Bend with non-life threatening injuries. Sheriff’s Office detectives ended up serving a search warrant on the trailer where the incident took place. Based on statements made by the victim, witnesses and evidence seized at the location, Dwayne Dittmer was arrested and lodged in the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail on the above mentioned charges. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Oregon State Police, US Forest Service Law Enforcement, and Bend Fire and Rescue. This is still an active investigation. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that
