HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On Oct. 8 th , 2021, Deputies and Detectives with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased male that had been shot and buried in the O’Brien area. The reporting party did not know the area well but was able to lead law enforcement (LE) to a location off Samarkand Drive in O’Brien, Oregon.   Upon arrival, LE recognized the property to be an illegal marijuana grow site, where a previous marijuana search warrant had been served. The reporting party knew some details regarding the incident and was able to walk LE to a wooded area, approximately one quarter mile from the grow site to a shallow grave. LE dug up the shallow grave and confirmed a deceased individual was buried at the location. The deceased was a Hispanic male, who was known to work on the grow site.  Next of kin have been notified, however, the name of the deceased will not be released in order to protect the investigation.  The Josephine County Major Crimes T

RECREATIONAL VEHICLE FIRE - 1700 BLOCK OF SE MILL STREET - 12-26-21

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 11:07 a.m. on December 26, 2021, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported recreational vehicle on fire in the 1700 block of SE Mill Street.  The reporting party notified Douglas County Dispatch that a motorhome was on fire across from 1729 SE Mill Street.  Upon arrival on scene, firefighters found a fully involved motorhome on fire in the 1700 block of SE Mill Street with the occupant outside of the vehicle.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and completed overhaul. The motorhome was a total loss due to fire, smoke, and water damage.  One adult resident was displaced.  The occupant of the vehicle sustained burn injuries and smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment and transport. The fire was initiated by the vehicle occupant lighting a gas stove when a small fire flashed, then igniting some nearby papers. Nine firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Douglas County Fire D

DETECTIVES SEEK ADDITIONAL VICTIMS OF MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office In September of 2021, Washington County Sheriff’s Office detectives assigned to the  Violent Crimes Unit  began investigating a case of child sex abuse after getting a report of an adult man having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl. Detectives identified 50-year-old Rodrigo Maya Juarez as the suspect. As the investigation continued, detectives learned there were multiple underage victims.  Juarez, who lives in Beaverton, was arrested on September 21, 2021. On September 27, a grand jury indicted him for the following charges: Sexual abuse in the first degree (seven counts) Sexual abuse in the third degree (six counts) Juarez remains in jail on $250,000 bail. Additional charges are possible in the future. SALEM MAN ARRESTED AFTER PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN EARLY MORNING HIT AND RUN

Sheriff's Office At just after 2:00 a.m. on December 25 th , 2021, a 911 caller reported a pedestrian had been struck by a car on Lancaster Drive NE near Ward Drive NE in the unincorporated area of east Salem. When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned a red Honda Civic had left the area at a high rate of speed. There was evidence at the scene the victim had sustained serious injuries and likely did not survive the collision.    Investigators from the Marion County multi agency Crash Team were called out to process the crash scene. Lancaster Drive was closed between Iberis Street NE and Hayesville Drive NE for four hours during the investigation. At close to 3:30 a.m., a caller reported a red Honda Civic with a deceased person inside several miles away near Wheatland Road NE and Brooklake Road NE, north of Keizer. Investigators were able to determine the deceased adult male inside was the pedestrian victim from the earlier crash. Through the investigation, deputies
