Portland Police Bureau Ten shooting incidents resulted in 10 people struck by gunfire in a 24-hour period in Portland, and the Portland Police Bureau is asking for public assistance in solving the cases. There was one homicide, as well as 2 unintended victims struck by gunfire. The incidents begin with a shooting on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2:57a.m. at Southeast 128th Avenue and Southeast Sherman Street, and went through 1:06a.m. on Saturday, May 28 in the 4800 block of Southeast Hawthorne Street. Below is a brief synopsis of the incidents. Details are limited as the cases are in the early stages of investigation. Bank Robbery Suspect On-The-Run in Gold Hill Area

Jackson County Sheriff's Office JCSO Case 22-2970 GOLD HILL, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies are attempting to locate a Grants Pass bank robbery suspect spotted on I-5 mile near Gold Hill around 6:15 this morning. JCSO deputies are searching for the suspect with K-9 and drone units. The suspect is Donald Lawrence Denney Jr., 41, from Lakeside, Calif. He is described as 6’4” tall white male weighing 230 lbs. with multiple neck tattoos. He has brown hair and green eyes. Denney is presumed to be armed. The suspect’s vehicle was towed and he was last seen on foot. If you see Denney do not approach. Instead call 911 with his location.

SUSPECT CHARGED IN FATAL CRASH INVOLVING SOUTHRIDGE HIGH STUDENTS AND WASHINGTON COUNTY DEPUTY

Beaverton Police Department On April 27, 2022, at 12:24 AM Beaverton Police Officers began an investigation into a two-vehicle crash involving Washington County Deputy Michael Trotter. The initial investigation showed a Nissan Altima with five occupants ran the red light at SW Tualatin Valley Hwy. and SW Murray Blvd., crashing into the driver’s side of Deputy Trotter’s patrol car. Two passengers of the Nissan Altima, 17-year-old Matthew Amaya and 16-year-old Juan Pacheco Aguilera, were killed in the crash. Both were Southridge High School students. Deputy Trotter was seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the Nissan Altima that struck Deputy Trotter was identified as 18-year-old Xavier Denzel Rodriguez. Earlier this month he was indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury on the following charges: two counts of Manslaughter in the First Degree, two counts of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, three counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving and DUII. GRESHAM POLICE INVESTIGATE EIGHTH HOMICIDE OF 2022

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Just before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Gresham Police responded to reports of a shooting at 18837 SE Yamhill St., the East Park Place Apartment complex. When officers arrived, they located a Vancouver, Wash., man outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical aid was administered but ultimately Antoine Steven Archer, 23, was pronounced dead. This morning, the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Archer’s death Homicide by gunfire. Gresham detectives and other members of the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team were called to the scene and are leading the investigation. Later in the evening on Wednesday, a 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody without further incident and lodged at a juvenile detention facility for an accusation of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. INFORMATION REGARDING RECENT 9-1-1 OUTAGE

Coos Bay Police Department On May 22 at approximately 10:22 PM the on-duty dispatchers noticed an issue with their 911 lines.  Following the Disaster Recovery Plan, approved by the State 911 program, dispatchers immediately notified the phone providers, Lumen and Ziply, as well as OERS – Oregon Emergency Response System of what appeared to be a complete 911 outage.  It was confirmed and determined that all of Coos County and Curry County were affected by the 911 outage.  To avoid any interruption of emergency services to the community the 911 calls for both counties were re-routed to the Douglas County 911 Center in Roseburg.  North Coos 911 business lines, and text to 911 were still operational, and were able to receive transferred calls from Douglas County 911.   An investigation into the outage revealed that a Ziply Fiber line was cut during some road construction, and was the cause of the problem.  At  8:24 AM the next morning North Coos 911 started receiving 911 calls in their cen

MARIJUANA SEARCH WARRANT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On May 25, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of Pickett Creek Road regarding an illegal marijuana grow site. During the execution of the warrant, approximately 4,300 marijuana plants and approximately 500 pounds of processed marijuana were located inside multiple greenhouses and an indoor growing area on the property.  The marijuana plants and processed marijuana were seized and destroyed.  Multiple firearms and pieces of equipment were also seized along with approximately $40,000. 28 year-old James Filomeo and 24 year-old Sheridan Westin were taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing and Possession of Marijuana.  At the time of this press release the investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released. Winston Dillard Fire District Yesterday just before 7pm, The Winston-Dillard Fire District was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of Teresa Ln in Winston. The first due engine arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from both the front and rear of the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire remains under investigation at this time. WDFD was assisted by Douglas County Fire District No.2 in this incident.

Motorhome Fire 2800 Block of Highway 138 West

Sutherlin Fire Department At approximately 0630 this morning, Sutherlin Fire was dispatched to a Structure Fire at the 2800 Block of Highway 138W. Crews arrived to find a fully involved motor home with no exposures. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Sutherlin Fire was assisted on scene by Sutherlin Police and Umpqua Valley Ambulance. We would also like to thank Oakland Rural Fire District, Fair Oaks Rural Fire District and Douglas County Fire District #2 for being ready to assist.

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 138E-DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at approximately 8:36 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 138E near milepost 78. Preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound black Tesla Model S, operated by Howard Berry (67) of Milwaukie, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck a power pole. Speed and alcohol use are being investigated as contributing factors to the crash. Berry and two of his passengers, Richard Edlund (67) of Milwaukie and John Ruppert (66) of Tigard, were all transported by air ambulance with injuries. A fourth passenger, Koelby Edlund (37) of Canby, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Hwy 138E was closed for approximately 30 minutes.  OSP was assisted by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Diamond Lake Volunteers, Air Reach, Pacific Power, And ODOT. 

PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE SOUGHT TO LOCATE ADDITIONAL VICTIMS

Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help to find possible crime victims of 31-year-old Christopher Denton. Denton is currently being held on federal gun and drug-related charges. During an investigation into Denton’s alleged crimes, MCSO Special Investigations Unit (SIU) deputies learned that Denton had been driving a 2011 Dodge Charger, that is thought to be a decommissioned police vehicle. SIU deputies believe that he was using the vehicle to impersonate police officers. Additionally, evidence collected during the investigation shows that Denton allegedly had inappropriate and unwanted contact with a woman dating back to 2018. Anyone who may have been exploited by Denton is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office. Denton has ties to Gresham, outer Southeast Portland and North Portland. OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE-DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On May 25, 2022, at approximately 08:00 AM, Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Weaver Road in Myrtle Creek to investigate a domestic violence complaint.   Upon arrival the suspect, Spencer Cassanova Heckathorne (60), had fled the scene. Probable cause was established to arrest Heckathorne for the crimes of Menacing and Recklessly Endangering.  Shortly after 10:00 AM, DCSO Deputies and officers from the Myrtle Creek Police Department located Heckathorne on Weaver Road near his residence.  Heckathorne rammed two deputies in their vehicles before crashing into a ditch.  After exiting his vehicle Heckathorne remained uncooperative and engage d a uniformed Deputy.  The Deputy fired his duty weapon and Heckathorne was struck one time. Deputies quickly began rendering aid to Heckathorne who was pronounced deceased at the scene.  OSP Major Crimes Detectives from the Springfield and Roseburg Area Commands responded to assist Douglas

MEDFORD MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON UNDER ARMED CAREER CRIMINAL ACT

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon MEDFORD, Ore.—On May 24, 2022, a Medford man with a long criminal history, including multiple convictions for strangulation and assault, was sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. James Calvin Patterson, 46, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison and five years’ supervised release. Patterson’s sentence will run concurrently to a 45-month sentence recently imposed for a drug conviction in Jackson County Circuit Court. According to court documents, in the early morning hours of March 30, 2019, two officers from the Medford Police Department observed a white compact car stopping in the middle of the road to pick up a passenger. Suspecting possible drug activity, the officers initiated a traffic stop. As one officer approached the vehicle, the front passenger, Patterson, began moving his hands around and near his midsection and waistband. Concerned Patterson was armed, the officer asked him t

GRANTS PASS DETECTIVES ARREST THE KNIFEPOINT ROBBER

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – This afternoon, at the end of an intensive investigation, Grants Pass Police Detectives arrested Xavier Bruce Durham, a 22-year-old male, for 1st-degree Robbery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, 2nd-degree Theft, and Menacing. Detectives identified Durham as the man who had robbed a woman of her purse outside the NW 6 th  Street United States Post Office on Monday, May 23 rd . As previously reported, Durham threatened the woman with a knife, took her purse and contents, and fled the scene in a waiting vehicle. The victim was not seriously injured. Durham was lodged at the Josephine County Jail. The Grants Pass Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance in this investigation. DEATH INVESTIGATION- UNION COUNTY

Oregon State Police On May 23, 2022, at approximately 7:25 P.M., law enforcement received a call from an individual reporting a homicide. Oregon State Police Troopers along with Union County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence in unincorporated Union County.   Upon arriving on the scene, law enforcement found an adult female deceased.  A suspect was taken into custody without incident.  The Union County Major Crime Team was activated with the OSP Criminal Division taking the lead role. The investigation is on-going, and any further releases will be done through the Union County District Attorney’s Office.

MARIJUANA SEARCH WARRANT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On May 20, 2022, Medford Police Department (MPD) executed a search warrant regarding stolen property in the 3000 block of Quartz Creek Road. During the execution of their warrant approximately 4,800 marijuana plants were located in multiple greenhouses and approximately 500 pounds of processed marijuana was located in the residence. MPD contacted the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) and informed JMET of their discovery. Prior to arrival multiple individuals had fled the scene before they could be detained.  JMET responded, seizing and destroying the 4,800 marijuana plants and 500 pounds of processed marijuana. Additionally, while on scene, JMET located two small deer that had been caged. JMET was able to dismantle the cage to a point that the deer could be released. No harm was done to the deer. At the time of this press release the investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released. 

RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE - 807 NE GARDEN VALLEY BOULEVARD

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 3:59 a.m. on May 24, 2022, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported residential structure fire at 807 NE Garden Valley Boulevard.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fully involved two-story residential structure. Firefighters made an exterior attack of the structure and extinguished the fire.  The primary and secondary search found no victims and overhaul was completed.  One vehicle suffered heat damage.  The primary home sustained extensive structural and water damage.  A fire investigator was on scene and the fire remains under investigation.  Nineteen firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Douglas County Fire District #2, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista Utilities, Pacific Power, Roseburg Police Department, and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. 

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 20-LINCOLN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 at about 11:55 pm, Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a fatal single vehicle crash on Hwy 20 at milepost 11.  Preliminary investigation revealed a Peterbilt CMV towing an unloaded chip trailer with a single occupant, David Damon (67) of Shady Cove, was traveling eastbound and drove onto the shoulder before overcorrecting.  The CMV crossed the center line and the westbound lane before striking several trees on the westbound shoulder. Damon sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Hwy 20 was closed for approximately eight hours following the crash. Lane usage, seatbelt usage, and distracted driving are being investigated as contributing factors. OSP was assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Fire Department and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office and ODOT.

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 199-JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Monday, May 23, 2022 at about 10:29 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at milepost 19 on Hwy 199 near Selma.  Preliminary investigation revealed a northbound white Volkswagen Bug, operated by Jesse Kozechen (29) of Brazil, swerved to avoid traffic that had slowed for a turning vehicle. The operator over-corrected and lost control, sliding into the southbound lane where it collided with a Ford Escape, operated by Eileen Huss (62) of Selma.  Kozechen sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Huss was transported with injuries. Huss’s two-year-old passenger was uninjured.  Hwy 199 was closed for two hours while the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene.  OSP was assisted by AMR, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Valley Fire Department and ODOT.
