Oregon State Police On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at approximately 12:16 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 101, near milepost 252, in Coos County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a black Nissan Titan, operated by Heriberto Morado Ledesma (35) of Coos Bay, was traveling north on Highway 101. The Titan was negotiating a curve, drifted into the southbound lane (for unknown reasons), and struck a southbound blue Jeep Cherokee, operated by Vera Lee Belcher (76) of Cottage Grove, head-on.    The three occupants- Ledesma (operator), Hector Mireles Gallo (35) of Coos Bay and Alberto Ramirez Vazquez (40) of Coos Bay- of the Titan were transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment and further medical evaluation.    The two occupants- Vera Lee Belcher (operator) and Clayton Gene Belcher (78) of Cottage Grove- of the Cherokee were pronounced deceased at the scene.    The highway was impacted for approximately 5 hours during the on-scene investigat

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at approximately 8:30 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5, near milepost 21, in Jackson County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a black Chrysler Town and Country, operated by Ruben Nanez (69) of Yreka (CA), was traveling south on the interstate, when for unknown reasons, it drifted off the roadway and impacted a ditch embankment. The van overturned and landed in a small creek.    Fire and Medical personnel extricated the single male occupant and attempted life saving measures, however the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.   The roadway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation.   OSP was assisted by Jackson County Fire, ODOT, Phoenix PD, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Lane Co. Sheriff's Office *UPDATE* The person that died in this crash has been identified as 46-year-old Cody Glenn Whitman of Junction City. - Today at approximately 12:13pm the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a three-vehicle crash on Clear Lake Rd. just west of Goodman Rd.  While enroute, deputies were advised that one of the involved vehicles had caught fire with a person trapped inside.  This person was the driver of the vehicle that caught fire and was later determined to be deceased. The driver of one of the other involved vehicles, a blue/green Pontiac sedan, reportedly fled the scene westbound on foot.  He may have been picked up by a white truck.  He is described as a white male adult aged in his 50’s to 70’s.  He was approximately 6’00 tall and had a black dog with him.  He was reportedly wearing khaki pants and an unknown colored hat.  The driver of the third involved vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office Deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating an Adult in Custody (AIC) who walked away from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Transition Center. Rigoberto Rodriguez-Morales, 27, walked away from the facility around 9:01PM on the evening of, May 23, 2023. Rigoberto was in custody on charges of 3 counts of Menacing / Assault 4.    Rigoberto is a Hispanic adult male, 5'08" and weighs 155 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, dark colored jeans and footwear.  The Marion County Transition Center prepares AICs for re-entry into the community prior to release from custody. Coos County Sheriffs'Office On May 24, 2023, at 12:06 p.m. Sgt. A. Slater was on routine patrol in Lakeside when he observed a suspicious vehicle turn onto Airport Road from U.S. Hwy 101. Sgt. Slater pulled out behind the car, and it immediately took off at a high rate of speed.  Sgt. Slater actively tried to stop the vehicle with his emergency lights and siren activated. However, the red Cadillac slid sideways onto Sarah Lane before the car became stuck in a ditch at the location. The driver, Michael J. Esposito (47) of Oakridge, had several outstanding warrants from both the Parole Board & Probation warrants from Marion County. Mr. Esposito was arrested on the warrants and transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and is currently in custody. The vehicle was removed from the location.  After an investigation, Mr. Esposito was cited for driving while suspended and careless driving. Linn County Sheriff's Office Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reports on May 23 rd  at 8:16 a.m., Linn County Dispatch received the report of a male missing from his home at the Springbook Mobile Home Park in Harrisburg, Oregon. Bryce Chilgren, 18, of Harrisburg, Oregon, was reported missing when his father went to wake him for school. Deputies responded to the area, speaking with multiple people. Deputies learned Bryce was last seen at his residence on the evening of May 22 nd . It is unknown what Bryce was wearing when he left his residence. He’s described as 5’8” and about 180lbs with longer brown hair and brown eyes. Sweet Home Fire Dist. At 11:34 the morning on May 23 rd , 2023, the Sweet Home Fire District received a call regarding an injured logger. The information received by Linn County Dispatch contained the GPS coordinates of the injured logger. However, the exact location and route to get to the logger were unclear. The most likely route was to access the logger off the Upper Calapooia road system. One ambulance and the rescue unit started that direction. While one chief officer started up the Wiley Creek side. Oregon Department of Forestry in Sweet Home heard the call and went to assist the chief from the Wiley Creek side. The chief encountered a log truck driver who was coming down the hill, who confirmed this would be on the Wiley Creek side. A Life Flight helicopter had been called for and was responding to Sweet Home from Redmond. The chief was able to locate the logger and notified Life Flight of the location. Oregon State Police On June 23, 2022, the Oregon State Police executed a search warrant at the residence of Norman Jones. The warrant stemmed from information gathered in a previous search warrant of a co-conspirator which linked Jones to poaching several deer using a rifle. Jones has a prior felony conviction. During the execution of the search warrant the following firearms were seized as evidence; a Winchester model 88, .308 caliber rifle with mounted scope and a Marlin model 550, .22 caliber rifle with a mounted scope which also included a flashlight taped to the barrel.   In addition to the firearms, Jones possessed a variety of wildlife parts including numerous sets of deer and elk antlers that were still attached to the skull. Oregon Department of Human Services (Salem) – The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), Child Welfare Division, asks the public to help find Julian (Jayce) Matney, age 14, a child in foster care who went missing from Portland on May 16. He is believed to be in danger. Eugene Police Department   At around 11 p.m. on May 18, EPD Patrol K9 Unit Officer Jake Thomas and Ayk were patrolling and observed a wrong way driver on a roadway open to the public. He performed a traffic stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver, Ramon DeJesus Laurean Barraza, age 30, of Phoenix, Arizona. Laurean Barraza was driving without driving privileges or insurance.    As the stop was concluding, a patrol officer observed, what he believed to be blue fentanyl pills and pre-packaged white powder in plain view in the back passenger area on the floorboard. Laurean Barraza gave consent to the officers on scene to search the vehicle. Eugene Police Street Crimes K9 Officer Joe Kidd and Jack (drug detection K9) responded to the scene to assist. At the conclusion of the stop, EPD’s team located 49 grams of counterfeit Oxy, 30 blue pills (fentanyl), 140 grams of fentanyl powder and $11,000 cash. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - On Friday, May 19, 2023, at 5:26 a.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers began receiving reports of a disturbance in the 100 block of Idleyld Park Lane in Idleyld Park. As deputies were responding, it was reported that a male was making threats toward others and carrying a brick. A subsequent report was made that gunshots were heard, and that the male was carrying multiple firearms. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 5:49 a.m. They began challenging the male, identified as 55-year-old Henry Charles McQuatters of Glide, who was in possession of two firearms. A subsequent radio transmission by deputies indicated shots had been fired by law enforcement. McQuatters was transported to Mercy Medical Center for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Linn County Sheriff's Office Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reports a deceased victim found in the woods in 2006 was identified as Jesus Ruiz of Aumsville, Oregon.  The investigation began on October 23, 2006, at approximately 6:17 p.m. when the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of human remains found in the area of the Big Springs Snow Park on Highway 22, east of Sweet Home.  Evidence at the scene indicated the remains had been there approximately one year. Detectives continued to work with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and DNA was extracted from the remains.  Although the victim’s DNA profile did not exist in any database, samples were sent to Parabon Nanolabs, a private company, for additional analysis to determine the identity of the person.  Parabon Nanolabs was able to find a possible identity by tracing the DNA through ancestry type databases and following possible relatives’ family tree lines.  They were able to give detectives a possible

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—Two Honduran Nationals residing in Gresham, Oregon have been indicted in federal court for transporting hundreds of thousands of counterfeit prescription pills containing fentanyl and several pounds of powdered fentanyl from California to Portland for resale. Kevin Martinez-Avila, 27, and Allen Moya-Vargas, 29, have been charged with conspiring with one another and others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl. According to court documents, in February 2023, investigators from the Westside Interagency Narcotics Team (WIN) learned a drug courier from California was transporting a large load of fentanyl to somewhere in or around Portland. On February 22, 2023, WIN investigators located the courier’s vehicle and followed it to a residence in Gresham. Soon after, investigators observed Martinez-Avila drive away from the residence. Oregon State Police On Wednesday, May 17, at approximately 12:01 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 38, near milepost 8, in Douglas County.   The preliminary investigation indicated a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser, operated by Betty Ann Hodges (79) of Florence, was traveling westbound on Highway 38. The PT Cruiser left the roadway (for unknown reasons), crashed into a tree, and came to an uncontrolled rest. Oregon State Police Update:   On Thursday, May 18, 2023, at approximately 2:06 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a three vehicle crash on Interstate 5, near the Santiam Rest Area, in the northbound lanes.   At this time, OSP will release the following information:   A commercial motor vehicle (CMV) was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 when it left the roadway on the east shoulder.  The CMV struck a Ford Econoline passenger van, occupied by 11 people, and pushed the van into another parked CMV.  The force of the crash caused extreme damage to the passenger van.   As a result of the crash, 6 persons in the van were declared deceased at the scene.  One victim from the van was transported by Life Flight and later declared deceased at the hospital. The other four occupants suffered various injuries and were transported via ambulance for medical care.   At this time, we are not releasing the names of the victims until notifications have been confirmed. The victims will be identi
