SEARCH WARRANT FOR ILLEGAL MARIJUANA

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, members of the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) executed a search warrant relating to an illegal marijuana grow operation in the 7000 block of Williams Hwy, Grants Pass, OR.  During the execution of the search warrant, 6,522 illegal marijuana plants were seized and destroyed.  One subject was detained due to safety concerns. At the time of this press release, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. No further details are being released at this time.

SHOOTING INCIDENT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On February 8, 2022, at approximately 6:59 AM, Josephine County 911 received a report of a shooting at a residence in the 2000 block of Placer Road in Sunny Valley.  The caller reported that he had accidentally shot his brother while loading a gun because there was a bear on their property.  Upon arrival, Deputies located a deceased male from an apparent gunshot wound. While checking the rest of the residence, a second deceased male was located with what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.  Sheriff’s Office Detectives were assisted by Detectives from the Oregon State Police.  Based upon the investigation, it is believed the caller took his own life after calling 911 to report the accidental shooting.  This case is still under investigation and will be forwarded to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.

NORBETO NESTOR MUNIZ, JUNIOR CONVICTED OF MURDER

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore.- On February 4, 2022, a jury found Norbeto Nestor Muniz, Junior guilty of murder and first degree abuse of a corpse. Chief Deputy District Attorney Bracken McKey and Deputy District Attorney Bryce Bissinger prosecuted the case against the defendant before Judge Andrew Erwin.  On November 17, 2018, Beaverton police were called to a home off of SW Allen Boulevard on a report of a suspicious circumstance. Responding officers searched the home and found the body of Amy Low. Ms. Low’s body was badly burned, and she was not positively identified until January of 2019.  Ms. Low lived at the residence with the defendant and another man. Detectives identified the defendant as a suspect in the crime. Investigators secured a search warrant and found several items of interest in the home including items which contained DNA evidence. Roseburg Police Department On Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, at about 1700 hours, David Lindsley (78), left his residence in Roseburg, OR driving his red Chevy Caprice (OR 545DAR) and never returned.  David’s neighbors found it odd since he never asked anyone to feed his cat. Several members of David’s family were contacted by phone and no one has seen or heard from him in several weeks. David has poor health and suffers from several medical issues.  The following is David’s recent DMV photograph along with a stock photograph of his vehicle (not his actual vehicle). David is an entered missing person in LEDS/NCIC. If David is located, please advise the Roseburg Police Department.

***UPDATE*** FIREFIGHTER CRITICALLY INJURED IN EARLY MORNING EXPLOSION

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office Earlier this morning a volunteer firefighter with the St. Paul Fire District was critically injured after responding to a barn fire in rural Marion County. The firefighter was taken by Lifeflight to a Portland area hospital. Tragically, he did not survive his injuries. The fallen firefighter has been identified as Austin Smith, a 30 year old from St. Paul, Oregon. Austin leaves behind a wife and extended family in the St. Paul area. He served with the St. Paul Fire District as a volunteer firefighter since 2015. Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the Oregon Office of the State Fire Marshal are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. Current efforts are underway to ensure it is safe for investigators to enter the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. FIREFIGHTER CRITICALLY INJURED IN EARLY MORNING EXPLOSION

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office At 4:08 a.m. this morning, February 3, 2022, a 911 caller reported seeing a building on fire on Champoeg Creek Lane NE, near McKay Road NE. Fire crews from the St. Paul Fire District arrived on scene to find a large barn on fire.  Firefighters reported an explosion happened during the fire, critically injuring a St. Paul firefighter. Lifeflight was activated and took the injured firefighter to an area hospital. Crews from Aurora Fire District, Mt. Angel Fire District, Woodburn Fire District, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, Canby Fire District, Dayton Fire Department and Hubbard Fire District responded to assist St. Paul Fire District with the incident. Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal have been called to the scene to investigate the incident. JAIL OVERDOSE INCIDENT

Sheriff's Office On 02-02-22 at approximately 4:37 PM, Deputies at the Josephine County jail were notified by Adults In Custody that two fellow Adults In Custody potentially overdosed on narcotics. Deputies located the two individuals who appeared to be overdosing on an illegal substance. With the assistance of jail medical staff several doses of Narcan were administered and lifesaving measures were performed.  Additional Deputies from the Patrol Division responded and assisted with CPR as well. Due to the swift action of Sheriff’s Deputies and medical staff both individuals regained consciousness within minutes and were transported to Three Rivers Medical Center. Shortly thereafter, Deputies discovered two additional Adults In Custody who appeared to be under the influence.  Narcan was administered and the two additional Adults In Custody were also transported to Three Rivers Medical Center.  During the investigation of this incident, two Sheriff’s Deputies were also

OSP SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE-FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5-LANE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at approximately 8:48 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 191.   Preliminary investigation revealed a pedestrian, identified as Gale Rodgers (61) of Springfield, was struck by a southbound vehicle on Interstate 5. No vehicles associated with the incident were in the area upon arrival of first responders.   Rodgers sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.   OSP is seeking public assistance with locating the vehicle involved in the crash, which will likely be a dark blue pickup truck with passenger side mirror damage.  The appearance of the damage may be minimal. The vehicle continued southbound on Interstate 5 or exited towards Hwy 58.  Investigators are asking anyone with information that might be helpful to  call the Oregon State Police at 1-800-442-2068 or *OSP (*677). GRANTS PASS POLICE K9 MATCH FINDS HEROIN AND METHAMPHETAMINE FOR RADE DETECTIVES

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – During this last week, Grants Pass Police K9 Match helped the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) detectives seize nearly ½ pound of heroin in two separate investigations. RADE detectives were able to intercept two separate vehicles that contained the deadly opiate. Both of the heroin seizures tested positive for not only heroin but also fentanyl, which has become common over the past year. RADE has seen an increase in both fentanyl use and distribution. One of the traffic stops also resulted in the seizure of over ½ pound of methamphetamine. Murder Suspect Remains on the Run

Medford Police Cristian Lamberto Barboza-Valerio, 21 years old, remains outstanding from the January 15th, 2022, shooting death on Pennsylvania Street. There is no known vehicle associated with him. He has been known to frequent the Cave Junction area in Oregon, as well as Pittsburg, Marysville, and San Francisco, all of which are cities in California. He is further described as 5'6" tall and 180 pounds.  The victim has been identified as Adriana Paulina Mendoza-Lopez, 39years old, who was the stepmother of the suspect. Overdose Leads to Dealer's Arrest

Medford Police On January 21st, 2022, the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team (MADGE) became aware of a near fatal overdose of a local woman, who was hospitalized for several days. The suspected drug involved was fentanyl. The investigation led MADGE to Brian Dee Forbes, 52 years old, who resides in the 1900 block of Homeview Drive, Medford. On January 28th, 2022, MADGE executed a search warrant on the residence and arrested Forbes, who was found in possession of just under 70 grams of fentanyl, a small amount of heroin, 30 pounds of marijuana, and a firearm. Forbes is facing numerous charges, included Felon in Possession of a Firearm, as he is a convicted felon.  Fentanyl is now the illicit drug of choice in the Rogue Valley, essentially replacing heroin. Fentanyl has typically been seen in the pill form, but is now predominately in powder form, such as this case (see photo).  Fentanyl has been responsible for a significant increase in overdoses, many of which have been fatal.

SOLVED: Serial Killer Cold Case

Eugene Police Department On June 5, 1986, at approximately 2:42 p.m., Eugene Police and Eugene Fire Medics responded to an apartment at 255 High Street regarding deceased person Gladys May Hensley, age 62, who was located during a welfare check by an apartment employee after she had not been seen for several days. The investigation revealed that the death of Hensley was a murder and that it was likely that she was killed in the early hours on June 4, 1986. Police were unable to locate the involved suspect, however, similarities in the murder and evidence at the scene connected the suspect with two additional murders, one that occurred in the same month and the other in February 1988.     Hensley`s murder was connected to the June 19, 1986 murder of Janice Marie Dickinson, investigated by the Eugene Police Department, and the February 28, 1988 murder of Geraldine Spencer Toohey, investigated by the Oregon State Police. Suspect Arrested for Rape, Sex Abuse, Assault of Elderly Central Point Woman

Jackson County Sheriff's Office JCSO Case 22-0535 CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies took a report of a rape and assault of a woman in her 70s that occurred late Saturday night at her home on Blackwell Road. Her son, who lives nearby, confronted the suspect and he fled the scene. JCSO deputies arrived to investigate and the victim went to an area hospital for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam.   The suspect was known to the victim and was contacted and taken into custody. Based on the evidence, Michael Dean Gates, 62, of Central Point, was lodged at the Jackson County Jail for first degree rape, first degree sexual abuse, and fourth degree assault. His bail is set at $400,000. Investigations are ongoing. Further information will come from the Jackson County District Attorney’s office.
