Oregon State Police On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, Oregon State Police Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Crooked River Ranch in Jefferson County related to an investigation into Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. OSP was assisted by members of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Redmond Police Department.  Andres Carrera-Garcia (30) of Terrebonne, was found in possession of hundreds of images of child sexual abuse material, which were downloaded from the internet. During Garcia’s interview with law enforcement, he admitted to sexually molesting a child, who was 2 years old at the time, while babysitting him at his residence in Redmond, Oregon, in late 2020 and early 2021. Digital evidence was located supporting his admissions.  Garcia was arrested for Sodomy I, Sodomy II, Sodomy III, Sexual Abuse I, Sexual Abuse III, Contributing to the Sexual Delinquency of a Minor, Sexual Misconduct, Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse I, Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 99E-MARION COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at approximately 9:39 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 99E near milepost 33, near Woodburn.  Preliminary investigation revealed a southbound gold Chevrolet Classic, operated by a 17-year-old male of Woodburn, passed another vehicle, lost control and collided with a northbound Indian motorcycle, operated by Jamil Nester (52) of Woodburn. The Chevrolet rolled multiple times and came to rest in the southbound ditch.  A 13-year-old male was ejected during the collision. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The 17-year-old and Nester were transported to an area hospital with injuries.  Hwy 99E was closed for approximately 7 hours while the scene was investigated.  OSP was assisted by Hubbard Fire Department, Woodburn Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Hubbard Police Department and ODOT. Man Found Deceased in the 1000 Block of Biddle Road

Medford Police Dept.   On 6/28/22 at 08:41 hours, Medford Police patrol officers responded to the report of a body in the irrigation canal in the 1000 block of Biddle Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male and Medford Police Detectives were called to assist with the investigation.  A Jackson County Sheriff's Office Medical Examiner was also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.  At this time, the circumstances of the man's death are unknown and he did not have any obvious signs of trauma.   This incident is under investigation and more details will be released when they are known.  The identification of the deceased male is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.  A Forensic Pathologist will confirm the cause and manner of death as part of this investigation.  

Two-Week Non-Compliant Sex Offender Sweep Concludes with 32 Arrests

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – Operation Copperhead, a non-compliant sex offender registration sweep concluded last week with a total of 32 arrests in the Jackson County area. The suspects arrested were charged with failure to report as a sex offender (ORS 163A.040). The operation ran for two weeks and also resulted in the registration of 34 out-of-compliance sex offenders. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) detectives conducted the sweep using United States Marshal Service funded overtime. During the sweep JCSO detectives documented approximately 75 compliance checks with non-compliant sex offenders and cleared six additional active warrants.  A major goal of these operations is to lower the risk non-compliant sex offenders pose to public safety. Sex offenders are required to report their current address, place of employment or school status, any change in name or residence, and any intended travel outside of the US. Winston -Dillard Fire District Today at 4:46pm, The Winston-Dillard Fire District was dispatched to a reported natural cover fire in the area of Roberts Mountain Road. First arriving crews found a fire moving up a hill reportedly caused by a downed high-voltage power line. An aggressive attack was launched and forward progress on the fire was limited to approximately two acres of land. WDFD assisted Douglas County Fire District No.2 and DFPA on this incident.

DA MIKE SCHMIDT ANNOUNCES ARRAIGNMENT OF KEFFER WHITE, 29, FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER, ASSAULT

Multnomah County District Attorney's Office PORTLAND, Oregon – Today Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Keffer James White, 29, was arraigned on four counts including two counts of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree, and one count of Assault in the Second Degree.  The charges stem from an incident on the evening of Saturday, June 25. A group of people were waiting for the bus in the area of Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Hall Street. Witness reports and video surveillance allege that White approached the group and began talking to them. When they did not respond, he began to yell and made fun of them for being elderly. White became increasingly aggressive. He approached one man in the group, Edward Lichenstein, 88, and began attacking him, including headbutting him and shoving him to the ground.  White then turned to another person in the group, Donald Pierce, 83, who was holding a cane for balance, and pus

MARIJUANA SEARCH WARRANT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On June 22, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) with the assistance Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) executed a search warrant in the 4000 block of Cloverlawn Drive, Grants Pass, regarding an illegal marijuana grow site. During the execution of the warrant, approximately 700 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed which were located inside multiple greenhouses on the property. In addition to the marijuana plants, approximately 2500 pounds of processed marijuana was located in outbuildings and underneath the main residence. Approximately 1.5 pounds of Methamphetamine and multiple firearms including a modified/short barrel shotgun, was also seized.   41 year-old Tung Ming Chen was taken into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Short Barrel Shotgun

OSP INVESTIGATES SEMI-TRUCK CRASH ON I-84 WITH SIGNIFICANT HIGHWAY CLOSURE- MULTNOMAH COUNTY

Oregon State Police On June 26, 2022, at approximately 6:45 A.M., A semi-truck with a crane boom and a flatbed trailer was traveling eastbound on I-84 near milepost 42 when a tire blew. The truck, operated by Marvin Klopfenstein (37), plowed through the cement barrier into the east-bound lane where it jackknifed and rolled onto its side. The truck slid on the cement barrier and caught on fire. The driver escaped with only minor injuries. I-84 remains closed in both directions. The Oregon Department of Transportation is diligently working with Gerlock towing and US Ecology on the cleanup. An estimated 200 gallons of fuel, oil, and antifreeze came from the vehicle. The pavement was gouged in places that will need to be repaired before the highway re-opening. OSP was assisted by Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, ODOT, Cascade Locks Fire, Gerlock Towing, and Purdy’s towing. US Ecology responded for environmental cleanup. OSP Troopers recover stolen vehicle out of Washington State

Oregon State Police On June 8, 2022, at approximately 11:30 A.M., Oregon State Troopers our of the Salem Area Command were advised of a confirmed stolen Toyota Tacoma pickup with Washington plates, traveling southbound on I-5 near the French Prairie Rest area.  The complainant advised the vehicle was occupied by two runaway juveniles.  The complainant was tracking the female juvenile on her phone and was providing live updates to OSP.  OSP was advised that the vehicle had stopped near Division St and Union St in Salem.  The vehicle was located with both juveniles still inside.  The juveniles were detained without incident.   The vehicle was released to a family friend. The juveniles were taken into custody for UUMV- Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle and lodged at Marion County Juvenile detention.   The parents were extremely happy that OSP was able to intervene. #YourOregonStatePolice

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 99E-CLACKAMAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On June 26, 2022 at approximately 9:23 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 99E at SE Jennings Avenue in Milwaukie.  Preliminary investigation revealed a northbound red Harley Davidson, operated by James Sheehan (57) of Portland, collided with a southbound silver Mazda MZ3, operated by David Norby (76) of Oregon City, that was turning left across traffic.   Sheehan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Norby was uninjured.  OSP was assisted by Gladstone Police Department, Clackamas Fire Department, AMR and ODOT. 

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 20-LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On June 25, 2022 at approximately 6:58 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Hwy 20 near milepost 55, approximately 25 miles east of Sweet Home.  Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound blue Harley Davidson Electra Glide, operated by Mark Nelson (57) of Lebanon, lost control and crashed into the westbound embankment.  Nelson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by Sweet Home Fire Department and ODOT.

SECURITY GUARD SHOT BY SUSPECT WHO STOLE GUN

Portland Police Bureau A security guard was shot in the ballistic vest by a suspect to was able to steal his gun during a scuffle. On Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 2:07a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 12600 block of Southeast Division Street. When officers arrived they located a uniformed private security guard who had been shot in the chest. His ballistic vest prevented the bullet from injuring him. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation but had no observable injury. The victim reported that he asked the suspect to leave the private property when the suspect suddenly lunged for his holstered firearm. A scuffle ensued and the suspect got the handgun free from the holster. The security guard was able to press the button to release the magazine. But the suspect shot the victim with the chambered round. The suspect ran off and has not yet been located. No suspect information is being released at this time. MISSING SWIMMER NOT LOCATED AFTER EXTENSIVE SEARCH IN THE COLUMBIA RIVER

Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office Around 5:15 p.m., on June 26, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol Unit deputies responded to a report of a missing swimmer near the west end of Lemon Island in the Columbia River. Witnesses reported that the man did not resurface after jumping into the water from a boat to help a woman in the water, who was struggling to swim. The woman was able to get to safety. Firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue and the Port of Portland Fire Department also responded in rescue boats and helped deputies perform a series of searches that included using underwater scanning technology. A U.S Coast Guard helicopter joined the search efforts as well. Unfortunately, after an extensive search, the swimmer was not located. It is presumed the man drowned. It was reported that he was not wearing a life jacket. The man’s identity is being withheld until next of kin notifications are complete. There is no further information to provide at this time.

UNPROVOKED ATTACK SERIOUSLY INJURES 2 ELDERLY VICTIMS IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND

Portland Police Bureau A man is facing felony assault charges after attacking 2 elderly victims in Downtown Portland. On Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 8:29p.m., Central Precinct officers and a sergeant were on a call in the area of Southeast 5th Avenue and Southeast Hall Street when they came across an assault in progress. The officers immediately arrested the suspect and summoned paramedics to assist the victims. They were transported to a hospital by ambulance. One victim, an 82-year-old man, has critical, life threatening injuries. The other victim, an 88-year-old man, was seriously hurt. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Witnesses and video evidence show the suspect attacked the two men without provocation and repeatedly punched and kicked both of them, including after they fell to the ground. DOUGLAS COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT NO.2 RESCUES MAN FROM WELL

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 Douglas County Fire District No.2 responded to a report of a male that fell approximately 30 feet into a well when attempting to fix the pump in the Green district. The first arriving crew confirmed the dispatch information and requested The Fire Districts technical rescue team to assist with removing the male from the well.  Fire personnel set up a rope system to safely remove the male from the bottom of well. The male only sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.  Douglas County Fire District No.2 responded with 2 fire engines, 1 Technical rescue truck, 2 ambulances, and 1 command vehicle.

GRANTS PASS MAN DIES FROM GUNSHOT WOUND DURING APPARENT DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – This morning at approximately 6:00 AM Grants Pass Police units responded to the rear parking lot of a church on NE Savage Street regarding a call from a female stating she had shot someone. Arriving officers found Scott Allen Harris, a 46-year-old male, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Further investigation by Grants Pass Police Detectives discovered the gunshot may have been the result of domestic violence. The involved female was questioned and released. The case has been referred to the Josephine County District Attorney for review.  Anyone having further information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Grants Pass Police Department at 541-450-6260. FATAL CRASH ON HWY 97-KLAMATH COUNTY

Oregon State Police On June 24, 2022 at approximately 12:35 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 97 near milepost 267.   Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound GMC Truck, operated by Erika Delrio (36) of Yuba City, CA, and a northbound white Nissan Xterra, operated by Cybil Nelson (35) of Bend, collided head-on. Both vehicles were destroyed by fire due to the crash. OSP Reconstruction members are investigating the crash.     Erika Delrio was transported via life-flight to St. Charles Medical Center with critical injuries. A passenger, Martha Carriedo (60) of Yuba City, CA sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Additional passengers, Magdalena Delrio (21) of Yuba City, CA and two male children, aged 1 and 2, were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. SCHOOL BUS CRASH

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office This morning at 08:43 hours, Lane County 911 dispatch received a report of a school bus crash on Marcola Road near milepost 4.   The Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Mohawk Fire and Rescue, and Eugene Springfield Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Upon arrival, two occupants were located: an adult male driver and a single juvenile passenger. The adult male was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The juvenile was treated and released at the scene. The investigation continues, but initial indications point to the driver suffering a medical emergency, immediately preceding the crash.   Emergency responders had Marcola Road closed for a little more than an hour, to accommodate emergency vehicles and personnel.  At this time the roadway has been completely reopened and normal traffic has resumed.

OREGON STATE POLICE SW REGION DRUG ENFORCEMENT TEAM MAKES ILLEGAL MARIJUANA BUST-JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, June 23, 2022, the Oregon State Police (OSP) Southwest Region (SWR) Drug Enforcement Section (DES) team, assisted by the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET), served an illegal marijuana search warrant in the 600 block of Pinewood Way, Cave Junction, Josephine County.  As a result, 3,944 illegal marijuana plants contained in seven (7) large, industrial sized greenhouses, were located, seized, and ultimately destroyed. Additionally, the property is subject to multiple code violations through Josephine County Code Enforcement, for unpermitted structures, multiple unpermitted electrical installations, and unpermitted excavation. Josephine County will move forward with legal action against the property owner which could result in closure of the property for one calendar year (illegal drug cultivation) and possible civil forfeiture. The investigation is on-going and no further information is available at this time.

Mark Allen Rockwell of Merlin Arrested For Online Sex Crimes

Myrtle Creek Police Department On June 9, 2022, Mark Allen Rockwell, 49, of Merlin, Oregon, began an inappropriate online communication with a juvenile female.  During the course of the conversation Rockwell agreed to meet with the juvenile in Myrtle Creek for sexual activity.   On June 23, 2022 at about 6:30 PM, Rockwell was contacted by Myrtle Creek Police at Evergreen Park.  Following evidence collection and an interview, Rockwell was transported to the Douglas County Jail.  Rockwell was lodged on charges of First and Second Degree Online Sexual Corruption of a Child, and Luring a Minor.   The Myrtle Creek Police Department was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Sutherlin PD. Myrtle Creek police would like to remind parents to be attentive to what your child is doing online.  Be sure to monitor your child’s internet and device usage.  If you see anything inappropriate or suspicious, please contact police immediately.

15-Year-Old Charged in Teen Stabbing

Tigard Police Department The Tigard Police Department is investigating a stabbing where a 15-year-old boy reportedly stabbed another 15-year-old boy. Just before 3:30 PM today, officers were called to Cook Park for an assault with a weapon. Responding officers found a 15-year-old victim who had been stabbed. He was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition. Witnesses immediately identified the suspect, who was located nearby by responding officers. He was safely taken into custody and is being transferred to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges of assault II and unlawful use of a weapon. Because he is a juvenile, the name of the suspect is not being released at this time.

CHILD PREDATOR ARRESTED IN GRANTS PASS

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - On Monday, 06-20-22, the Grants Pass Police Department responded to a reported sex offense that occurred at the Grants Pass YMCA.  The complainant reported her 6-year-old daughter had been subjected to sexual touching while swimming at the pool.  Management at the YMCA was advised of the incident and assisted law enforcement with the investigation.  Through the assistance of the YMCA, the individual involved in the incident with the child was identified as 66-year-old Rex McCurdy, a registered sex offender from California.  The YMCA staff advised law enforcement when McCurdy arrived back at the facility on Wednesday, 06-22-22.  McCurdy was subsequently arrested by Grants Pass Police Detectives and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Oregon State Police On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the Oregon State Police (OSP) Southwest Region (SWR) Drug Enforcement Section (DES) team, assisted by the Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) of the Medford Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, served an illegal marijuana search warrant in the 11000 block of East Antelope Rd. Eagle Point, Jackson County. As a result, 2,864 illegal marijuana plants contained in ten (10) greenhouses, were seized. Also located and seized were 209 pounds of processed marijuana bud packaged for sale on the black market, eight (8) firearms, body armor and over $10,000.00 in US Currency. REDMOND POLICE OFFICERS ENCOUNTER AGGRESSIVE OFF LEASH DOGS WHILE INVESTIGATING STOLEN PROPERTY

Redmond Police Dept. On June 21, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Redmond Police Department officers were approached by several aggressive off leash dogs while investigating reports of a stolen trailer and its contents on property east of 17 th  Street in Redmond.  The interaction resulted in two of the aggressive off leash dogs being shot.   The detectives where in the process of attempting to contact occupants of a houseless camp near the location where the reported stolen property was located when they were confronted by two off leash aggressive dogs.  One of the detectives unsuccessfully attempted to separate himself from the dogs, and fired shots at one of the dogs, which later died.     A short time later a third off leash and aggressive dog ran towards the detective.  The dog owner and another person attempted to gain control of the dog without success.  The detective shot at the dog, which fled.  The status of this dog is currently unknown.  Officers stayed on scene and buried

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, 25 year old Alejandro Guadalupe Martinez was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail regarding a previous investigation by detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT).   In January of this year, detectives served a search warrant at Martinez's residence in the 600 block of Gross Loop in Canyonville.  During the search, detectives found approximately 546 pounds of processed marijuana packaged in 1 pound bags, and stored in boxes, ready for shipment.  Also found was a small number of growing marijuana plants, an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as other evidence of drug trafficking.   The residence was unoccupied at the time of the search warrant, as Martinez had been taken into custody earlier that morning by police in Fresno County, California on unrelated charges.  Martinez was later released from custody in California in March after posting $100,000 bond.  Additionally, Martinez is

Multiple Vehicle Accident on Interstate 5 Hugo

Rural Metro Fire - Josephine County 6/21/22, 14:00 hrs. (HUGO) -- A multi-vehicle crash snarled traffic on Interstate 5 Southbound at Exit 66.  In all, several passenger vehicles, a semi-truck, a pickup hauling an excavator, and a log truck that overturned, were all casualties of the incident. The crash scene extended north and south of the overpass.  After an evaluation by Rural Metro Fire and AMR, it was determined everyone involved refused medical treatment.   ODOT and several towing companies worked quickly to open the freeway, and all lanes were restored before 3pm.  OSP is investigating the cause. #ruralmetrofire #josephinecounty
