Bandon man commits new crime of failing to appear for Trial on original charges stemming from a June police pursuit and subsequent K9 Track where he used a firearm.

Coos County Sheriff's Office Kyle R. Thompson (33) of Bandon was arrested in late June 2023 by the Bandon Police Department on several charges after being involved in a police, vehicle pursuit and subsequent K9 track.  During the K9 track, Kyle was located by Sheriff’s Office K9 Cena in a heavy brush and brandished a firearm, enabling him to escape.  Several days later the Bandon Police Department located Kyle on a traffic stop and arrested him.  Kyle was released from the Coos County Jail in early August after posting bail, pending his appearance at trial.  On August 31, 2023, Kyle R. Thompson committed a new crime by failing to appear at his trial, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on the original charges from the case in June. These charges are elude by vehicle, elude by foot, reckless driving, menacing (involving the use of a weapon), and Escape II (involving the use of a weapon).  If you know where Kyle R. UPDATE: EUGENE MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL PARAGLIDER CRASH

Benton Co. Sheriff's Office On August 30, 2023, Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Jarrod Karl Kaplan (56) of Eugene, in connection with their investigation of a paraglider crash into the Willamette River on July 1, which caused the death of a 51-year-old Eugene man. The tandem was flight purchased online with Kaplan, a self-pronounced paragliding instructor. Further research by detectives determined Kaplan was actually flying northbound over the river, not southbound as originally reported, when he hit a powerline and crash into the river. Kaplan is charged with Criminal Negligent Homicide and is currently lodged at the Benton County Jail where he is being held until arraignment. LARGE FIRE OVERNIGHT DETERMINED TO BE ARSON, SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — At approximately 2:30 a.m. today, emergency personnel responded to St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 721 Chemeketa ST NE on the report of a dumpster on fire on the property.  Arriving Salem Fire Department personnel found the tall flames from the dumpster fire spread to the roof of the church building. Within an hour, Salem Fire crews requested assistance from regional fire agencies as the fire was upgraded to a four-alarm status.  Firefighters safely evacuated a priest living in an adjacent building on the church property. No injuries were reported. Several road closures were in place for nearly ten hours as part of the fire suppression efforts and the investigation.  The Salem Fire Department received assistance from the fire departments of the cities of Dallas and Keizer, as well as the Marion County, Mount Angel, and Polk County Fire Districts. Officer Struck By Gunfire -Suspect In Custody

Springfield Police Department - Oregon The Springfield Police Department 911 received multiple calls at 8:09 am on August 31, 2023, regarding an adult male breaking items in the street and acting erratically. SPD Patrol Officers responded to the scene and attempted to contact the man who had retreated into a residence.  At 8:36 am, multiple rounds were fired from inside the residence in the direction of the officers. One officer was struck and was able to move out of the direct line of fire. The officer was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition. A second officer was struck by fragments resulting from the shots and also received care at a local hospital.  Multiple SPD officers responded to the scene. More shots were discharged from inside the residence as officers worked to establish a perimeter. Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation of a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of SE 185 Ave, at 5:14p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Witnesses called 911 to report that a man was shot immediately after the shooting occurred. Officers arrived and found evidence of the shooting but were unable to locate the suspect or the victim.    Officers and crime scene investigators collected evidence and police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating those involved. Joint Task Force Arrests Phoenix Man for Sexually Exploiting Several Children Through Social Media, Detectives Believe He May Have Other Victims

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office PHOENIX, Ore. – A Phoenix man is now lodged in the Jackson County Jail on child cyber-sex crime charges. The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET) joint inter-agency task force arrested the man yesterday morning and served a search warrant at his apartment in the 600 block of North Main Street in Phoenix. SOCET began an investigation after receiving a report from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office of a child being sexually exploited through the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.  The suspect, Joshua Ray Pool, 40, of Phoenix, is charged with using a child in display of sexually explicit content and first-degree encouraging child sex abuse. During the warrant, investigators seized digital devices which will be forensically examined by Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force (SOHTCTF) for further evidence of child exploitation.  Investigators believe Pool may have been communicating with other child victims from throughout the

FATAL CRASH - HWY 38 - DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Saturday, August 26, 2023, at approximately 3:17 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash on Hwy-38, at the intersection with Dean Creek Rd, in Douglas County. The preliminary investigation indicated a white Honda CRV, operated by Nancy Jean Funk (79) of Reedsport, was stopped on Dean Creek Road, preparing to turn westbound onto Hwy-38.  The Honda CRV began to turn onto Hwy-38 and pulled out in front of an eastbound Honda VTX1300, operated by Lynn Eugene Kropf (70) of Shedd.  The Honda motorcycle attempted to stop and fell to its side.  The passenger of the motorcycle, Marilyn Rae Kropf (67) of Shedd, came off of the motorcycle and impacted the rear of the Honda CRV.   The operator of the Honda CRV (Funk), passenger - Rachelle Dora Lopez (44) of Reedsport - and a juvenile passenger were not injured during the collision.  The operator remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.   The operator of the Honda motorcycle (Ly

Accidental drowning at Laverne Park

Coos County Sheriff's Office On August 27, 2023, around 12:51 pm, Coos County Dispatch received a 911 call for a male who had possibly drown at Laverne County Park on Fairview Road. Deputy M.R. Smith immediately responded. Upon his arrival, Deputy Smith spoke with Ambulance personnel and found that a 20-year-old male had been placed in the ambulance and was not breathing. Life-saving efforts were ongoing, and he was being transported to the Coquille Valley Hospital. The 20-year-old male was pronounced deceased at Coquille Valley Hospital at 2:28 pm. While this incident has been determined to be an accident, the victim's name and other information are being withheld pending confirmation of proper family notification and the conclusion of a complete investigation. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank those on the scene who assisted with CPR while awaiting the arrival of emergency personnel.  The loss of this young man saddens us and we wish his family and friends

GRESHAM POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING DEATH; IDENTIFY VICTIM

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.—At approximately 3:57 a.m., Gresham Police officers responded to reports of gunshots and a person down in the parking lot near the entrance of an apartment complex in the 200 block of SE 188 th  Ave. Officers arrived and located the victim who was later declared deceased. The East County Major Crimes Team (MCT) was activated to investigate the death as a homicide.   The victim has been identified as James Edward Wilson, 61, of Gresham. DEATH INVESTIGATION

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 08/24/2023 at 2:00pm, a Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy working within a housing unit at the Lane County Jail discovered a male adult-in-custody (AIC) unresponsive in his cell during hourly checks. His last check had been completed at 1:00pm.  The male had a ligature tied around his neck and was unconscious and not breathing. The deputy removed the ligature and immediately began life-saving efforts. Emergency medical assistance arrived and despite continued life-saving efforts the male did not survive.  Detectives along with the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and began an investigation.  All indications at this point are that the male died as the result of apparent suicide.  Investigators with the Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing the investigation into the official cause of his death.  A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.  The male is identified as 33-year-old Joshua William Cates.  Cates was convicted in

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE OF OAKLAND WOMAN

Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  - The Douglas County Major Crimes Team continues to seek information from the public regarding the homicide of 78-year-old Terry Lea Deane.  Deane was found deceased in a residence in the 400-block of Coltrin Lane on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Since that time, the Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been actively investigating the case as a homicide. Investigators are making a second appeal to members of the community to come forward with any information which may help them to further the investigation. Specifically, they are interested in information about individuals or vehicles seen in the area between August 11 and August 12.  Detectives are also encouraging residents to be aware of suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhoods and to report anything to law enforcement by calling (541) 440-4471. 

ROSEBURG MAN DIES IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH THURSDAY NIGHT

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - A motorcycle operator died in a two vehicle crash Thursday evening. On Thursday, August 24, 2023, at shortly before 4:30 p.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of a possible fatal crash involving a motorcycle in the 4800-block of Melrose Road in Roseburg. Deputies responded along with fire and EMS. Deputies determined the operator of a 2020 Suzuki GSX motorcycle had been traveling west on Old Melrose Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with a 2014 Toyota which was making a left hand turn into a residential driveway. Neither operator had time to avoid the collision.   The operator of the motorcycle was identified as 34-year-old Justin Allen Maxwell of Roseburg. Maxwell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the van, 69-year-old Roseburg resident Steven Gordon Soper was not injured in the incident. CHAD BRANDON PITCHER CONVICTED IN MANSLAUGHTER CASE

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office HILLSBORO, Ore- On August 23, 2023, a Washington County jury found Chad Brandon Pitcher guilty of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeff Lesowski and Deputy District Attorney Nadya Martin prosecuted Mr. Pitcher before Judge Janelle Wipper.  The defendant was originally convicted in 2019. However, the jury returned non-unanimous verdicts on two of the original three counts. The case had to be retried after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in  Ramos v. Louisiana  that non-unanimous verdicts in state trials for serious criminal offenses violated the Sixth Amendment right to a fair trial. The defendant targeted the victim, Reiner Schmolling, after he learned he stole his vehicle. On September 19, 2017, Mr. Pitcher and Christopher Jay Stephens, a co-defendant in the original trial, drove to a rural area outside North Plains, Oregon, and confronted Mr. Schmolling. TWO IN HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SE M STREET SHOOTING

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – This morning at 8:52 AM, Grants Pass Police Officers responded to the scene of a shooting near the M Street Market, where they located a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. Officers quickly located the suspect, who was armed with a firearm. The incident quickly escalated and culminated in an officer-involved shooting. Both the victim and suspect were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds and were last reported in serious but stable condition. None of the responding officers were injured, and there is no further danger to the community from this incident. SE M Street from SE N Street to SE Green Briar Lane will be closed until the conclusion of the investigation. Citizens are asked to avoid the area. The Oregon State Police are conducting the investigation of this shooting, and further inquiries should be directed to them.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On August 21, 2023, at 7:35 pm, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a small silver hatchback hiding in the bushes near MP 6 on Lower River Road.  The reporting party advised the vehicle would wait for other vehicles to drive by and would rev the engine, which made machine gun like noises. A Deputy responded to the area to attempt to locate the suspicious activity.  As the Deputy approached the area, he observed a vehicle matching the description travelling eastbound at 90 MPH.  The Deputy turned around to attempt to stop the vehicle.  As the Deputy came around the corner, he observed a cloud of dust near the roadway and advised the vehicle had crashed. Rural Metro and American Medical Response (AMR) were requested to the scene due to the heavy damage to the vehicle and the injuries of the occupants.  The vehicle was occupied by two males.  The passenger was transported by AMR to Rogue Regional Medical Center.  The driver, Brooks Kimb

Man Leads Police on Reckless Chase After Harassing Mercy Flights Ambulance Crews

Medford Police Dept. On Saturday morning, August 19 th  on two different incidents, the Medford Police Department received reports that a known subject, Parker Joseph Latham (31 years old) was harassing and interfering with different Mercy Flights Medical Ambulance crews at different locations throughout the city. The reports were that the suspect was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner and that he was blocking-in Mercy Flight ambulances using his vehicle as well as disordering himself to crews. Medford Police patrol officers investigated these cases and were unable to locate Latham until at about 3:05pm, when we received another report of the same suspect vehicle boxing in and harassing another Mercy Flights crew in the area of the Olive Garden at Crater Lake Hwy and Delta Waters Road. Medford Police located the suspect vehicle in that parking lot. Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist based on previous cases they were aware of with the same suspect and a history of his unco
