A STATEMENT FROM SHERIFF JOHN HANLIN ON THE RELEASE OF CONVICTED MURDERER KYLE HEDQUIST

Image
Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office This statement is in response to Governor Kate Brown’s recent decision to grant clemency to a Douglas County man who was appropriately convicted of Aggravated Murder in 1995 and is now free to victimize other innocent people.     I am absolutely opposed to the Governor granting executive clemency to Kyle Hedquist.   Kyle Hedquist conducted a very calculated, cold blooded execution style murder after realizing his victim, Nikki Thrasher, “might” have accidently learned he was involved in a rash of burglaries.  Under his own admission, Hedquist said he killed Ms. Thrasher to eliminate the possibility of her turning him into the police.   He then dumped her body alongside a remote logging road.     The executive clemency granted by Governor Brown in this case is shocking and irresponsible.  Governor Brown granted clemency despite compelling arguments and letters of opposition from Douglas County District Attorney Richard Wesenberg, Marion County District

SHERIFF'S OFFICE ISSUES DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES SAFETY TIPS

Image
Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - There have been several reports over the last couple days of door-to-door sales people selling aromatherapy/air purifier/diffuser products.  In some of these reports, the sales person has pushed their way into the home of a person who has said they are not interested.  The sales person usually female and appears to be alone but when she leaves, she gets into a vehicle (a grey Chevy Suburban or a White Ford Explorer) that is occupied by two males. The legitimacy of these salespersons is unclear; what is clear is that their sales tactics are suspicious and that you should use caution when dealing with door-to-door sales people as a general rule.   Here are a few tips to help keep you safe when someone comes knocking at your door. • Use peep-holes to determine who is at your door, and keep your porch light on in the evening. • Refuse to open the door to anyone you don’t know or aren’t comfortable with. • Talk to sales people through

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) In the evening hours of Monday, April 18th, 2022, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) executed a search warrant on a rural property in Azalea, Oregon and located an illegal marijuana operation.   Detectives seized 1,702 marijuana plants, and approximately 23.5 pounds of processed marijuana.  Detectives also located 4 high end vehicles that were seemingly hidden, or stashed on the property.  Closer inspection of the vehicles revealed they all had switched VIN plates.  The counterfeit VIN plates were high quality forgeries that were difficult to detect.  A check of the real VIN's showed that all four vehicles were stolen out of the state of Florida.     The stolen vehicles were a BMW X6, a Maserati, a Range Rover, and a Bentley, and all were late model versions.  The type of vehicles, the sophistication and quality of the switched VIN's, and the fact they were all stolen from clear across the country all indicate
