Homicide in Newport

Newport Police Dept On November 27, 2019, Newport Police Officers were dispatched to the address of 811 SE 5th St. regarding a male subject who had been shot.  Upon arrival, Officers found a male deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.    The suspect, identified as Newport Resident Steven DeMAURO, 65 years of age, remained on scene.  Investigation revealed that DeMAURO shot the victim during an argument.  DeMAURO was taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was lodged for Murder II. The victim is identified as Newport resident Tony LARSEN, 59 years of age.  The criminal investigation is continuing.  The Lincoln County Major Crime Team (MCT) was activated and are currently investigating the incident. The MCT is composed of Detectives from the Lincoln City, Lincoln County Sheriff, Newport, Toledo and Oregon State Police Departments, as well as members of the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office. Fatal crash on Cordon Rd; Deputies investigating

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office At approximately 7:23 pm on November 29th, 2019, deputies were dispatched to the report of a head on collision on Cordon Road NE near Sunnyview RD NE. The crash involved a Ford F-350 and a Chevy passenger van. Three fatalities were reported as a result of the crash. At least three other occupants were transported to area hospitals for their injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and identities are not being released pending notification of the next of kin. At this time Cordon Rd will be blocked at Sunnyview Rd and Swegle Rd. with the help of Marion County Public works until investigations are completed. At this time crews are hoping to have all roads opened by approximately 1 am. Marion County Deputies were assisted by Salem Police Department, Marion County Fire Department, Marion County Public Works and the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Tri-County Major Incident Team Activated for Deputy Involved Shooting in Bend

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office A deputy-involved shooting has occurred involving one of our deputies in the area of Robal Lane and Hunnell Road, at the north end of Bend.  The shooting occurred at 6:08 pm.  The Tri-County Major Incident Team is being called out to the scene. The adult male subject in this incident has been transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.  His condition is currently unknown. Our deputy was not injured. Any future information will be released by the DA’s Office and Major Incident Team. In accordance with our office's standard practice, one deputy at the scene will be placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Injury Vehicle Crash

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.  - On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 4:47 PM, 911 dispatchers received a report of a two vehicle roll-over crash on Garden Valley Road near Melrose Road in Roseburg.  When deputies arrived they learned a 2002 Chevy Malibu, driven by 59 year-old Roseburg resident Mary Frances O'Connell, attempted to make a left hand turn from Garden Valley Road onto Melrose Road. O'Connell had pulled into the path of an oncoming 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by 20 year-old Luis Sanchez of Roseburg. The Jeep rolled several times before coming to rest in a dirt median. Sanchez and his passenger, 19 year-old Avry Kimmerle Hansen of Roseburg, were both critically injured in the crash and were transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment before being transferred to an out of the area hospital. O'Connell was also transported to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance for evaluation.  The crash is still under investigation and deputies are seeki

Four Cave Junction Men Arrested for Murder in Connection to Structure Fire in January

Oregon State Police  On January 15, 2019 Oregon State Police and emergency workers responded to structure fire in Cave Junction where Donald Thomas was found deceased inside the residence. Fatal Crash near Scottsburg

Oregon State Police  On Monday, November 25, 2019 at 8:20 AM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel received a report of a possibly single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 38 at approximately MP 16.  The crash scene investigation found Allison Morgan, age 38 from Reedsport, was driving a 1997 Toyota Tercel when Morgan failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle crossed over the oncoming west bound lane, drove off the roadway and collided with a large oak tree head-on. Morgan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses estimated the Toyota Tercel was traveling in excess of 60 mph when it collided with the tree.  Oregon State Police was assisted by Reedsport Police, Scottsburg Fire, Oregon Department of Transportation and the Douglas County Medical Examiner. Illegal Hunting near Roseburg

Oregon State Police  On November 24, 2019, Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Troopers in the Roseburg Office received information regarding illegal hunting in the Drew area off Tiller Trail Highway. The investigation revealed Paul Morford, 47, from Coos Bay, Alvis Neal JR, 49, from Roseburg, Alvis Neal SR, 72, from Coos Bay and Kenneth Brown, 23, from Coos bay were hunting in the Dixion Unit. Their bow deer tags were valid in the Evans Creek unit just south of the Dixon unit. One buck was shot on November 23, 2019 after dark with a .22 caliber magnum rifle while it was being spotlighted.  Another 3-point deer was shot by bow in the Dixon Unit about 3 days prior.  The 3-point buck had already been transported to Coos Bay. As a result of the investigation, two compound bows, a .22 caliber magnum rifle, a spotlight and a buck deer were seized.  The second buck deer was seized by the Coos Bay Office of the Oregon State Police.  Winston Police Department also assisted in the in

Fatal Traffic Crash Investigation

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office SUTHERLIN, Ore.  - A single vehicle crash in the 9300-block of Nonpareil Road east of Sutherlin Monday night claimed the life of a Sutherlin man.  Dispatchers were alerted to the crash at 9:05 pm. When deputies arrived, they located a 2001 Dodge pickup approximately 20 feet down an embankment which had hit a large cedar tree head-on. The vehicle had been operated by 54 year-old Raymond Dennis Funk of Sutherlin who died at the scene.  An initial investigation indicates Funk had been traveling eastbound when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason, striking the tree. He was unrestrained at the time of the crash. Nonpareil Road was closed for approximately 2 hours.  The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Sutherlin Police Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, Fair Oaks Fire Department, Douglas County Public Works and Marshals Towing.  Next of kin has been notified.

Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Searching For Missing Cloverdale Man

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office UPDATE Mr. Lake was found deceased today at about 5 p.m., southwest of Suttle Lake.  No foul play is suspected.  The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a Cloverdale area man, last seen around 8:00 pm on Friday November 22nd, 2019 at his residence in the 18000 block of 2nd Avenue. Connor Lake, age 22, is believed to have left his residence and was last seen heading toward Bend.  He is driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with Oregon license SL61503 that is gray/silver in color.  The vehicle has a small lift kit, oversized black wheels and tires, a black tool box in the bed, and a black “Fox” tailgate pad draped over the rear tailgate.  Lake was last seen wearing brown cowboy boots, dark blue jeans, a green crew neck sweater, and a white/gray baseball cap with a leather “Made in Oregon” logo on the front. Rawland Strong sentenced to probation after tricking two girls into taking up-skirt photos

District Attorney's Office On Friday November 22, 2019, Rawland Strong, 32, a registered sex offender, was put on three years of formal probation for taking up-skirt images of two children after he enticed them with free frozen yogurt from the grocery store he was working at. “This was obviously very concerning behavior. It was a traumatic incident for the two victims,” said Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney BJ Park, who prosecuted this case. “Mr. Strong could have faced much more serious charges had he successfully taken nude images of these children. Oregon State Police requesting public's assistance with unlawfully taken/wasted deer - Linn County

Oregon State Police  On November 17, 2019 at approximately 1:30 P.M. the Oregon State Police received a complaint regarding a buck deer shot unlawfully with a rifle and left to waste in the area of Swamp Mountain, this is approximately 10 miles east of Sweet Home.   The witness observed two adult subjects in a newer, bright red, Chevrolet pickup (attached picture is similar) operating on commercial timber property when one subject shot the buck deer with a rifle from the cab of the pickup.  The vehicle left the area after learning the witness observed the illegal activity.   Identifying features regarding the vehicle: ·        bright red paint ·        black wheels with lower profile / wide tires ·        loud exhaust ·        crew cab / 4-door ·        dark tinted windows ·        tube-style steps or nerf bars ·        slight lift or leveled front end ·        white sticker in the upper portion of windshield with 6-characters, possibly “OREGON” ·        smal

La Pine man shot after checking on victim of assault

Sheriff's Office On 11/24/19 at approximately 0011 hours Deschutes County 911 received a call from a Vic’s Tavern employee who reported a male had just come into the establishment with a gunshot wound. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Oregon State Police, and Sunriver Police responded to the area. The male victim was located inside of Vic’s Tavern. La Pine Fire Department medics responded and began treating the victim. The victim was transported to St. Charles Medical Center by ground ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Deputies contacted Wilson in the area of Hwy 97 and Burgess Rd. Wilson had been located and held by two citizens after they learned of the shooting. Wilson was taken into custody without incident. Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police identify driver and pedestrian involved in fatal collision. On November 23 at approximately 4:52 p.m. Police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on NE Halsey St. at NE 192nd Ave. It was reported that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene continuing eastbound. Police found that Zachary O’Leary, 21, of Gresham had been crossing NE Halsey St. in the marked crosswalk and was deceased. Approximately 35 minutes into the investigation the suspect returned. David Haugen, 38, of Portland was arrested and later lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center. He is being charged with Manslaughter II, DUII, Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver, and Reckless Driving. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Gresham Police at 503.618.2719.

Oregon man accused of communicating with minors in seven different states for sexually explicit purposes

Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office   Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced the filing of a 90-count indictment against 58-year-old David Cohron for allegedly going online and communicating with seven different female minors in seven different states. As alleged in court documents, at the time of these alleged offenses the victims were between the ages of 13 and 14 years old. It is alleged Cohron induced and compelled each of the minors to send him sexually explicit photos, videos and other sexually explicit materials that the minors had self-produced using a texting application. During their online communications, all of the victims told Cohron their true age, making it clear they were minors. It is alleged that Cohron represented himself with a username of "Perry Williams" as he communicated to all of these victims, according to court documents. Male Indicted For Sex Abuse: Victims Sought

Beaverton Police Dept. On September 9, 2019, 33-year-old Lee Zon Bennett was arrested for Sex Abuse.  Mr. Bennett was taken to Washington County Jail where he awaits his next court appearance.  In May 2019 Beaverton Police Detectives started investigating Mr. Bennett after evidence came to light regarding him sexually abusing a female child in 2009.  At the time of the abuse, the child was 4 years old.  During the investigation, a second victim was found.  The second victim stated she was sexually abused by Mr. Bennett in 2011.  At the time the second victim was abused, she was 10 years old.  During the incidents of abuse, Mr. Bennett was temporarily staying at people’s houses and/or babysitting the children.    In August 2019, a Washington County Grand Jury heard testimony regarding these cases.  The Grand Jury indicted Mr. Bennett with three counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree and two counts of Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree.
