FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5-MARION COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Friday, September 30, 2022 at approximately 12:45 AM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 279, south of Wilsonville.  Preliminary investigation revealed a black Honda motorcycle, operated by Tyler Bratton (24) of Santa Rosa, California, was travelling southbound in the northbound fast lane and collided head-on with a black Jeep Cherokee, operated by Usach Sisach Nelson (22) of Corvallis.  Prior to the collision a witness observed the motorcycle northbound, make a U-turn and proceed southbound on the Interstate. It is unknown why Bratton was traveling the wrong direction. Additionally, during the investigation it was determined Nelson showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for DUII. Illegal Angling Columbia River

Oregon State Police The Oregon State Police had received several complaints of a group of salmon anglers fishing in the Columbia River, in an area currently closed to salmon angling, beyond the deadline at the mouth of the Sandy River. The anglers were wading into the Columbia River, at the mouth of the Sandy River, and casting further out into the Columbia River to catch salmon. After receiving the complaints, Oregon State Troopers were able to locate and observe a large group of anglers outside the mouth of the Sandy River standing in waist-deep water and casting further into the Columbia River. The Troopers were able to make contact with the anglers, who knew the Columbia River was closed in that area for salmon angling. The anglers were also using barbed hooks and they had retained four hatchery Coho salmon. The anglers were cited for unlawful take salmon and angling in a closed stream. All anglers were warned for the use of barbed hooks and the Coho salmon were seized and donated

Eugene Police Department On March 30, 2022, a Eugene mother and her teen daughter went to dinner at a restaurant and parked their vehicle in the restaurant’s lot. Unfortunately when they returned to their car, they found the passenger window shattered and the teen’s school bag gone. Inside the bag had been her keys, her school computer and a wallet with her debit card and social security card, which were all stolen. Shortly thereafter, someone tried to use the card at the WalMart, 4550 W. 11th Avenue.  A Eugene Police Property Crimes detective is now seeking tips as to the identify of a suspect in the case. He has a distinctive tattoo on his right, inner forearm that is possibly a “Ru$$el and “TROTT” or "HOTT." Attached are surveillance photos. Man Arrested After Getting Into Woman's Car at Gas Station

Sheriff's Office At just after 5:00 p.m. on September 28, 2022, call takers from the Willamette Valley Communication’s Center received a 911 call and could hear a woman in the background telling someone to “get out of my car” and “don’t touch me”. The call taker listened to the open line as the caller was saying street names in the background while driving to help the police find her. Dispatchers quickly relayed updates to deputies and officers from the Salem Police Department, helping them locate the woman at a Shari’s Restaurant on Lancaster Drive SE in Salem. The woman was with a man she didn’t know who had taken her car keys and cell phone before they arrived. Deputies learned the 36-year-old Salem woman was leaving a gas station on Lancaster Drive SE near Macleay Road SE when a stranger got into her car and refused to get out. The woman quickly called 911 and put her phone in her purse, giving out directions to help guide law enforcement to her as she drove him to t

Portland Police Bureau A drug dealer has been arrested for delivery of controlled substances to minors near Cleveland High School in the Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood. On Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11:13a.m., a Central Precinct officer responded to a report of a missing 16-year-old female, who is a student at Cleveland High School. The officer learned that the female might be with an adult male named Jonathan Ash Clark, 42, of Portland. Clark had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The officer requested additional resources, including the Narcotics and Organized Crime (NOC) Unit and Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team (NRT). The investigation led officers to locate Clark near Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 21st Avenue, where they arrested him. Further investigation revealed that Clark was selling drugs to other minors near Cleveland High. The missing female was located safe. Joint Task Force Serves Search Warrant After Child Porn Uploaded from Local Central Point Residence

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office   CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team (SOCET) joint inter-agency task force served a search warrant this morning at a residence on the 2500 block of Rabun Way in Central Point. SOCET served the warrant this morning after discovering numerous images of child exploitation were uploaded from the residence. Detectives are interviewing possible witnesses and involved parties, and investigations are ongoing. During the warrant, investigators seized digital devices which will be forensically examined by the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force (SOHTCTF) for further evidence of child exploitation. A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) started the investigation, which led to subpoenas, followed by the search warrant at the residence. DEATH INVESTIGATION

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office *UPDATE* 09/29/22 36 year old David Roy Keefaver of Junction City has been identified as the victim in this case. While the exact series of events leading up to Keefaver’s death are still not entirely clear, investigators have not uncovered any evidence to indicate that his death was the result of a criminal act.  Investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.    - This morning at approximately 4:32am, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a call of suspicious circumstances at a residence in the 30300blk of Lassen Ln. north of Eugene. An area resident called 911 to report that an adult male was throwing himself against the caller’s door.  As deputies responded the caller advised that the male had laid down on the porch and lost consciousness. DEPUTIES SEEK TIPS IN HIT & RUN INVESTIGATION

Sheriff's Office On September 24, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m., a 911 caller reported bicyclist had been struck by a car at the intersection of Howell Prairie Road NE and Hazelgreen Road NE, east of Salem. Witnesses told deputies the involved car, a “cherry red” hatchback fled from the scene. The bicyclist, a 70-year-old female, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies are seeking anyone who may have video footage from the area or who has information to help identify the driver or vehicle involved in the crash. FELONY ANIMAL NEGLECT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On September 21, 2022, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the business location for Pawsitive K9 Solutions located on 6 th  Street in Grants Pass. During that warrant, thirteen neglected dogs were located that had no food or water in poor living conditions.  On September 26, 2022 Detectives with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control Officer’s and Josephine County Code Enforcement executed an additional search warrant at the owner’s residence, located in Selma.  During the execution of that warrant, one horse and one rabbit were found deceased. In addition to the deceased animals, sixteen animals including another horse, multiple dogs, cats and chickens were located without food or water also living in poor conditions. MISSING TEEN FOUND DECEASED IN WATERWAY

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — At approximately 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, Salem Police detectives and deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were called to an area of the Willamette River at about the 3900 block of Wallace RD NW on the report of deceased person in the waterway. The individual matched the description of missing, west Salem teenager, Zackary Christopher Brenneman.  An examination performed by the  Oregon State Medical Examiner  ruled the cause of death as drowning. Although Salem Police detectives are waiting for the results of other medical reports for official confirmation of identify, they are confident the person found is Zackary. Additionally, detectives found no evidence of criminality or foul play. Family members reported the 16-year-old missing just after 11:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16. SOUTHEAST SALEM HOUSE FIRE DETERMINED TO BE ARSON

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — At approximately 12:35 p.m. on Friday, September 23, emergency responders were called to the area of Wilbur and Cross STS SE on a residential house fire.  The Salem Fire Department responded to the fire which started on the porch but then quickly engulfed a large portion of the home. Residents quickly evacuated the dwelling and reported no injuries. One firefighter is receiving medical treatment for minor injuries received at the scene. Salem Police patrol officers interviewed witnesses and determined a teenager set a lit sparkler into a Halloween decoration, causing the fire. The teen was identified and arrested.  The 16-year-old male juvenile was lodged at the  Marion County Juvenile Detention Center  on the following charges: Arson in the first degree Criminal mischief in the first degree Reckless endangering The Salem Police Department does not release the names of minors involved in criminal investigations.

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On September 24, 2022 at approximately 1:27pm, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Camp Creek Rd. near milepost 2.  Milepost 2 is in the general area of the Easy Ln. intersection.  Deputies responded and learned that a black Toyota Tacoma driven by 26 year old Austin McKee of Springfield had been driving westbound on Camp Creek Rd. when it crossed over into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason and struck an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup head-on. McKee was transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition.  The driver of the Silverado, 70 year old Larry Sidwell of Springfield, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The reason that McKee crossed in the oncoming lane remains under investigation.  Evidence of drug use was located at the scene.  McKee died at the hospital over the weekend as a result of his injuries. 

DEATH INVESTIGATION-DESCHUTES COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Sunday, Septeber 25, 2022 at 8:28 AM, the Oregon State Police and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5677 SW Young Avenue in Redmond and located an adult male, identified as Trevit C. Law (45) of Redmond, who had been shot. Responding officers provided immediate first aid but Law was pronounced deceased.  During the subsequent investigation, Skyler R. Myers (32) of Redmond was developed as the suspect in the shooting. A multi-agency effort tracked Myers approximately 7 hours, eventually locating him near Gift Road and the Deschutes Canal. Myers sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to St. Charles Medical Center where he later was pronounced deceased.  OSP was assisted in the ground search by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Police Department and Redmond Police Department.  The investigation is active and no further information will be released at this time. 

OREGON STATE POLICE SOUTHWEST REGION DRUG ENFORCEMENT TEAM MAKES ILLEGAL MARIJUANA BUST- JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, September 22, 2022, the Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement Section team, with assistance from several other agencies, served search warrants on two separate locations in Prospect, Jackson County: a warehouse near 1st St. and an address in the 400 block of Red Blanket Rd.  Located at the warehouse property were one firearm and approximately 1,800 pounds of illegal, processed marijuana packaged for transport/sale on the black market.  One individual, Yasmany Mesa, age 30, was detained, identified, interviewed, and subsequently lodged in the Jackson County Jail on the charges of; 166.270 Possession of Firearm by Felon (Fel, C); 475C.337 Possession of Marijuana - Person >= 21 - Over 8 Lbs. ANIMAL ABUSE/NEGLECT

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office Josephine County Animal Control Officers received a report of malnourished canines at Pawsitive K9 Solutions, located at 783 SE 6 th  Street Grants Pass, Oregon. Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office obtained and served a search warrant at the location on September 21 st , 2022. Deputies and Animal Control Officers recovered 13 canines all at different levels of malnourishment. Some of the canines required immediate care from veterinarians who helped after hours to see them in a timely manner. The living conditions of the animals revealed they had been neglected for some time. The canines were transported to the Josephine County Animal Shelter. The owners/employees of the business were not present at the time of the search warrant, but they have been identified. As of September 23, 2022, the canines are doing well and are getting the care they need at the Shelter.  The Shelter has stated that they are on special and expensive prescriptio

Grants Pass Police Department The Grants Pass Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in locating a missing endangered juvenile. 13-year-old Malykai Trevino was last seen by his parent around 2230 hours on September 22, 2022 when he snuck out of his residence. Malykai is approximately 5'9" and 140 lbs with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a tan and white sweater and black sweatpants. It is believed Malykai is on foot with a juvenile female in the Grants Pass area. RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE - 1595 W. LOOKINGGLASS ROAD

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 12:20 p.m. on September 22, 2022, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported structure fire at 1595 W. Lookingglass Road.   The reporting party stated all residents had evacuated the residential structure.  Upon arrival on scene, firefighters found a single story, residential structure with smoke and fire showing from the laundry room of the home.  Firefighters conducted a primary and secondary search, made an interior attack to extinguish the fire and completed overhaul.   The home sustained structural, smoke, and water damage.  The displaced family included two adult residents and three children.  The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. A fire investigator was on scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation. VICTIM SURVIVES AND SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT

Albany Police On September 21, 2022 at 5:53pm the Albany Police were called to a residence in the 4200 block of Ramona Pl SE Albany for a report of a sexual assault. Witnesses reported a female was crying and bleeding in the front yard of a residence. The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released. Detectives learned that the victim and suspect met earlier in the day at Ma’s Dairy Farm Tavern and then returned to his residence.  Upon officers arrival, they surrounded the residence as they believed the suspect was still inside the home. The suspect, Jeffrey Richards, age 68 refused to exit his residence or comply with Albany Police. Approximately 11 hours later, Albany Police executed a search warrant for Jeffrey Richards and his residence. Police forcibly opened the front door of the residence and during the service of the search warrant, Jeffrey Richards surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.   Jeffrey Richards w

SEARCH WARRANT RESULTS IN ARREST OF REDMOND MAN FOR POSSESSION OF FENTANYL AND STOLEN PROPERTY

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit conducted a short term investigation into Troy Schaffner for possession of fentanyl pills and possession of stolen property. On September 21, 2022 at approximately 3:39 PM, Street Crimes Detectives executed a search warrant at Schaffner’s residence.  During the investigation and search warrant execution, a commercial quantity of counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl was located. Detectives also located numerous pieces of stolen mail to include checks, credit/debit cards and stolen vehicle license plates. Schaffner was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail where he was lodged on the above listed charges.  Street Crimes Detectives were assisted by the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team.  This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may follow.
