FIREFIGHTER CANDIDATE PHYSICAL AGILITY TESTING - APRIL 1-2, 2021

  Roseburg Fire Dept. The City of Roseburg Fire Department will be conducting physical agility testing as part of the new hire process on Thursday, April 1 and Friday, April 2, at the Roseburg Legion Field located at 2050 NW Stewart Park Drive.  This testing will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Please avoid the parking lot directly in front of Legion Field during this time, as this area will be closed to the public.  The parking lot will be closed to the public due to COVID restrictions and for the safety and integrity of the testing process. 

ROSEBURG MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING INJURY DUII CRASH

Sheriff's Office DILLARD, Ore.  - A Roseburg man was cited Tuesday night following an injury DUII accident in Dillard.  On March 30, 2021, at 9:20 pm, 9-1-1 dispatchers began receiving reports of a single vehicle crash in the 9000-block of Old Highway 99 South near Dillard. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 2007 Toyota Tacoma in a ditch. The driver, 35 year-old Jesse Lee Gardner of Roseburg, had been traveling south on Old Highway 99, when he drifted off of the roadway and into a ditch coming to rest against a culvert.  Fire and EMS crews extricated a female passenger, 46 year-old Amber Taylor of Eugene, from the pickup and transported her to Mercy Medical Center where she was evaluated for her serious injuries. Gardner was also transported to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance where he was treated. MAN ARRESTED ON BURGLARY AND ATTEMPTED RAPE CHARGES

Sheriff's Office On Tuesday 3/30/2021 at 1:40am Lane County Sheriff Deputies responded to the 33000 block of McKenzie View Drive for the report of a Burglary and Attempted Rape that just occurred. The home owner called and reported that an unknown male broke out a sliding glass door in the home and entered the bedroom where the female victim was sleeping.  The male suspect is alleged to have removed his pants, got in the bed, and attempted to remove the victim’s pants. Thankfully, the victims roommates heard the commotion and confronted the suspect with a firearm, causing him to flee the residence. Deputies located the suspect a short distance away and identified him as 28 year old Jesse O’Conner from Eugene. O’Conner was taken into custody without incident, however due to exhibiting strange behavior commonly observed in individuals under the influence of illicit drugs, he was treated at McKenzie Willamette Hospital prior to lodging at the jail.  During the investigation

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On March 24, 2021, at approximately 12:50 P.M., law enforcement responded to a call regarding a vehicle on fire in Selma about 6 miles up McMullen Creek Road on forest management property. Detectives responded to the scene and located two deceased persons in the burned vehicle. The incident is being treated as homicide and is actively being investigated. On March 29, 2021 investigators were able to identify the two persons in the vehicle as Daniel T. Hill (24) from Josephine County and Paul M. Folk (26) from Josephine County. Folk was previously reported as a missing person to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety. The Oregon State Police is leading the investigation and are being assisted by Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, the Josephine County District Attorney and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.

THREE VEHICLE CRASH MONDAY EVENING RESULTS IN FATALITY

  Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore. -  The Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the deceased driver of the fatal vehicle crash Monday night south of Roseburg. The driver of the Ford Crown Victoria has been identified as 43 year-old Roseburg resident Kyle Allen Northern. Northern was pronounced deceased at the scene.  At 4:49 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021, 911 dispatchers began receiving reports of a three vehicle crash in the 3100 block of Highway 99 South near the Green District. Deputies arrived on scene and learned a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by an adult male, had been traveling north on Highway 99 when it drifted into the oncoming lane and sideswiped a southbound 2007 Saturn driven by 72 year-old Colleen Bendan of Winston, before colliding head-on with a 2021 Jeep Renegade operated by 65 year-old William Metcalf of Roseburg.  The male driver, a Roseburg resident, of the Ford Crown Victoria, whose name is being withheld pending next of ki

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH ON MARCOLA ROAD

  Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On 03/29/2021 at about 1:27pm the Lane County Sheriff's Office was notified of a vehicle crash on Marcola Road near Alder Branch Road. It was reported a motorcycle and a pickup truck were involved in a head on collision.  Deputies responded and investigated the crash.  Based on statements and the roadway evidence on scene, it appeared that the motorcycle crossed over into the pickup's lane of travel.  It is unknown what caused the motorcycle to enter the opposing lane. The airbags inside the pickup deployed and the driver was wearing a seatbelt.  The driver of the pickup was uninjured.  The operator of the motorcycle was wearing proper riding gear, including a helmet, but was pronounced deceased on scene.  The deceased was identified as a 60 year old Eugene resident.  Next of kin are still working on making notifications to family out of the area.

DRAIN MAN ARRESTED FOR SEX ABUSE

  Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DRAIN, Ore.  - A Drain man was arrested on Sunday for sex abuse.  On Sunday, March 28, 2020, Deputies became aware of a report of sex abuse which had occurred at a residence in the Drain area. The investigation ultimately lead to the arrest of 24-year-old Caleb Phillips Hartman. The victim, an adult female, was known to Hartman.  Hartman was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was lodged on a single count of Sex Abuse in the Third Degree.

  Portland Police Bureau Portland Police Bureau detectives are seeking help in locating 34 year-old Noah Charles Smith. Smith has active warrants for his arrest and is a person of interest in a shooting that occurred on March 7th, 2021 at SW Barbur Blvd and SW Capital Hwy and needs to be interviewed. Smith is known to frequent homeless camps. Detectives believe Smith is armed and dangerous and should not be approached. INVESTIGATORS SEEK TIPS AFTER SHOOTING LEAVES TWO 17-YEAR-OLDS INJURED

Sheriff's Office ***Update - 3/28/21 @ 11:42 a.m.*** On March 24th, 2021, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting which occurred in the back parking lot of Four Corners Elementary School in the unincorporated area of Salem.  Two 17-year-old males were found at the scene with gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital.  Since the day of the shooting, one of the victims had remained hospitalized with critical injuries.  Tragically, the 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning, March 27th, 2021.  The second victim who sustained non-life threatening injuries has been released from the hospital. At the request of the family, the victim’s name will not be released at this time.  As the family continues to grieve the loss of their loved one, they are requesting privacy and no contact from the media. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office are continuing to follow investigative leads.  No additional suspects have been arrested or charged

FATAL CRASH HWY 199 - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Friday, March 26, 2021 at approximately 7:27 A.M.,  Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 199 near milepost 30. Preliminary investigation revealed a Toyota 4Runner, operated by Clyde McDonald (26) of Cave Junction, was northbound when crossed into the southbound lane and stuck a Ford Explorer operated by Shawn Fodor (29).  The 4Runner then struck a (southbound) Ford F250 operated by Paul Taylor (35) of Cave Junction. Taylor sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. McDonald was transported via AMR and then air ambulance to Rogue Regional Medical Center with injuries. Fodor was uninjured in the crash. The highway was partially closed for 5 hours. Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the Oregon State Police at 1-800-442-2068 or *OSP and reference case number SP21-076174.   OSP was assisted by AMR, Illinois Valley Fire Department, ODOT, and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office.

Death Investigation

Medford Police On March 26th, 2021, at about 10:15 a.m., Medford police officers responded to a report of possible dead body on the green way, north of Railroad Park. Officers found the remains of deceased subject, about 75 yards off the bike path, between the path and Bear Creek. Based on the circumstances of the scene, the case is being treated as a homicide. Medford police detectives are being assisted by the Oregon State Police Crime Lab and the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office.  At this point, the identity of the deceased is unknown, as well as sex, race and age. The decedent is an adult. More information will be released after an autopsy is performed. This is still in the very early stages of the investigation, and we appreciate your patience.

ALBANY POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERY AT BIG LOTS

  Albany Police On 03/24/21 at about 5:20 PM, the Albany Police received a report of an armed robbery at the Big Lots store located at 2000 SE 14th Ave.  The suspect displayed a handgun at the checkout counter demanding money, and left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspect left the scene driving what appears to be a 2000-2003 black Hyundai Elantra 4-door sedan with no plates.  The suspect is described as being a white male, 35-40 years of age, 5'11" to 6'1", with balding gray hair.  He was wearing all black clothing: Chicago Bears baseball cap, Washington State Cougars hooded sweatshirt, black pants, with a blue mask.  No one was injured in the incident.  Police are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Albany Police Detectives at (541)917-7686. 

UPDATE: SHOOTING AT GOLDEN KNIGHT MOTEL; FOUR INJURED AND TWO ARRESTED

  Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.- On March 18, Gresham Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Golden Knight Motel at 750 E. Powell Blvd. When police arrived, they discovered four victims; one is in critical condition, two were taken to surgery, and the fourth was being treated at a trauma hospital. UPDATE: Detectives with the East County Major Crimes Team have arrested two suspects in connection with this investigation. 19-year-old Kevin Aguirre and 30-year-old Alexander Lewis, both of Gresham, have both been arrested on charges of Attempted Murder, Burglary, Robbery, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Aguirre was arrested on March 21 and Lewis was arrested on March 25. Aguirre was injured by gunfire during the motel shooting. Further information, including the names of the other victims and/or additional outstanding suspect(s), are not being released at this time. Sheriff's Office On Wednesday March 24th, 2021 at 12:56pm the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fully involved vehicle fire in a remote wooded area off McMullen Creek Rd. approximately 7 miles from Lake Selmac.  Illinois Valley Fire personnel, Josephine County Sheriff Deputies and Oregon State Police Troopers responded to the scene.  Due to poor road conditions, fire personnel could not get to the vehicle. As the fire began to extinguish itself, two bodies were discovered in the vehicle.  As of the time of this press release, the identities of the victims are unknown.  This incident is being treated as a homicide investigation.  The victims have been transported to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.   Oregon State Police On March 23, 2021,three young Blacktail bucks were found by a citizen alongside a sand road on the North Spit of Coos Bay.  All three deer were shot in the head from relatively close range and were likely taken using artificial light at night.  These deer were shot and left to waste.  OSP Troopers estimate that the deer were killed sometime between March 19 - March 21, 2021.  It is currently closed season for Blacktail Deer. FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 84 EASTBOUND - EASTBOUND LANES CLOSED AT NE 68TH AVE

  Portland Police Bureau On March 25, 2021, at about 2:14 a.m., Portland Police were dispatched to reports of a wrong way driver on Interstate 84. Multiple callers reported seeing a vehicle travelling westbound in the traffic lanes of eastbound I-84. Callers soon reported a collision on eastbound I-84 in the vicinity of Interstate 205. Officers on the scene confirm that there has been what appears to be a head on collision on eastbound I-84 involving two vehicles. There are two fatalities. Traffic on eastbound I-84 is shut down at Northeast 68th Avenue and is being diverted onto surface streets. Anyone planning to use eastbound I-84 in the next few hours should find alternate routes. This closure will impact traffic on surface streets and possibly other freeways for the next few hours. The Portland Police Major Crash Team has responded to investigate.

Man Arrested at W. 10th/Lincoln for Online Sexual Corruption of a Child

Eugene Police Dept On March 24, 2021, James Alan Haynes, age 23, agreed to meet with a 15-year-old female, who was actually a Eugene Police Department detective investigating online crimes against children. Haynes sent sexually explicit images and videos to the juvenile (detective). He arranged to meet the juvenile near W. 10th and Lincoln, describing sexual acts he wanted to commit with the juvenile and saying he would bring methamphetamine. When contacted at W. 10th and Lincoln, Haynes was physically uncooperative but was ultimately handcuffed by uniformed patrol officers and detectives. He repeatedly kicked at the door of the marked patrol vehicle while in custody and a flexible restraint device was used to reduce the risk of injury to Haynes, assault on officers, and further damage to the patrol car. NARCOTICS/MONEY LAUNDERING SEARCH WARRANTS

  Albany Police On March 17, 2021 11 people were arrested during five search warrants at two locations in Linn County, one location in Benton County, and two in Marion County, Oregon conducted by the Linn Interagency Narcotics Enforcement (LINE) Task Force.  The investigation focused on the unlawful manufacture of marijuana in Linn County and money laundering through local restaurants in Linn, Benton and Marion Counties.  As a result of the warrants investigators seized cocaine, over 1900 marijuana plants, 40 pounds of processed marijuana, over $373,000.00 in US Currency, firearms, and several vehicles. 11 individuals were taken into custody during the search warrants and lodged in the Linn County Jail without incident on the following charges: Yue “Michael” Chong Chen, 41 year old Salem resident, Racketeering, Money Laundering, Criminal Conspiracy and Aid and Abet Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana, Unlawful Manufacturing of Marijuana. UPDATE: HOMICIDE VICTIM IDENTIFIED (CASE 21-1672)

  Lane Co. Sheriff's Office The victim in yesterday’s homicide on Hall Road in northern Lane County is 73-year-old Stephen Perry Bream of Junction City.   Travis William Crum was arrested yesterday evening and lodged in the Lane County Jail on murder charges. Crum is 52 years old and has no known address.   During the investigation of this homicide, Oregon State Troopers and Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies continued patrolling the area for the suspect, Travis Crum, and the involved vehicle.  On March 23 at about 10:17 PM residents reported a subject matching Crum’s description throwing sticks at passing vehicles on Highway 36 near milepost 18.    Oregon State Police and Lane County Deputies were dispatched to the call.  About 15 minutes later the first arriving Trooper located Travis William Crum standing in the middle of Highway 36 and he was subsequently taken into custody without incident. Crum is currently lodged at the Lane County Jail on murder charges.    The Lane County Sher

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

  Roseburg Police Dept. On March 23, 2021 at approximately 2000 hours, the Roseburg Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 1600 block of W. Harvard.  The Roseburg Police Department, along with law enforcement officials from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Myrtle Creek Police Department, responded to the scene.  The investigation revealed the incident stemmed from a conflict with two individuals who appear to be known to each other and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.  The involved victim sustained very minor, non-life threatening injuries.  The investigation is still active and more information will be released when available.

Sheriff's Office Homicide suspect Travis Crum is now in custody following a day-long search in northern Lane County.    The shelter-in-place warning for Hall Road-area residents was lifted earlier this evening.   The Lane County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Oregon State Police, Springfield Police Department and Eugene Police Department for their assistance throughout this search.   No additional information or statements will be available tonight.

Sheriff's Office On March 23, 2021 Sheriff’s Office marijuana enforcement detectives from the Deschutes County Illegal Marijuana Enforcement (DCIME) team, with the assistance of DCSO SWAT, DCSO detectives, and Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) detectives served a search warrant in the 52000 block of Elderberry Ln. in La Pine. DCIME detectives began an investigation in approximately March 2020 into Kirill Balayants for the illegal manufacture of marijuana at his residence. During the investigation detectives were able to gain information necessary for a search warrant of the property to look for evidence of the unlawful manufacture, delivery, and possession of marijuana. Balayants is a registered grower for one person through the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. Balayants is allowed to have six mature marijuana plants, and 12 immature plants. FUEL TANKER CRASH LEADS TO EVACUATION OF 12 HOMES

Sheriff's Office At approximately 12:20 a.m. on March 23rd, 2021, deputies were dispatched to the report of a fuel tanker involved in a roll-over crash in the 9500 block of Golf Club Road SE near Stayton.  When emergency crews arrived on scene, they located a 2019 Kenworth fuel truck and trailer belonging to Oregon Petroleum Transport Company overturned on the side of the roadway, leaking fuel.  The driver was not injured in the crash. Officials from the Stayton Fire Department requested a hazardous materials team from the Salem Fire Department respond to help contain the spill.  Deputies coordinated with the Stayton Police Department and Oregon State Police to evacuate 12 nearby residents who were able to take temporary shelter at the Stayton Community Center until additional assistance was provided by the American Red Cross.  Deputies and fire crews remained on scene for several hours while the remaining fuel in the tanker and trailer were pumped out to another vehic

EXPLOSION AND FIRE CLAIMS WORKER'S LIFE NEAR SILVERTON

  Silverton Fire District The Silverton Fire District responded to the report of an explosion and fire at approximately 9:00 am this morning. The location is a commercial/agricultural building in the 13000 block of Riches Rd. NE near Silverton. Heavy dark smoke and fire could be seen coming from the middle of the structure from several miles away.   Initially, dispatchers advised responding units that 3 persons may be trapped on the second floor of the structure. While responding to the call, Assistant Chief Ed Grambusch requested an immediate upgrade to a 3rd alarm and requested additional fire apparatus from nearby communities.      On arrival, heavy fire and smoke conditions engulfed the second story of the seed cleaning facility. Managers on site advised that one person was still on the second story. An aggressive fire attack was made; however, the missing person was located deceased inside. Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is currently on-scene at a property on Hall Road in northern Lane County following a call regarding a deceased male.   There is an active search for suspect Travis Crum. Crum is a 52-year-old white male who stands about 6 feet tall, medium build with short gray hair. He may be wearing glasses, a red jacket and brown pants.   Residents in the area have been asked to shelter in place while law enforcement officers continue their search.   Drivers should not stop to pick up any hitchhikers in the area or along Highway 36.
