Roseburg Man Arrested After Eluding Deputies and Crashing

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office  - 08/31/18  On August 29th, 2018, at about 9:20 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta for several traffic violations on I-5 near milepost 161.  The vehicle failed to yield to deputies for about 1 mile, finally pulling over near milepost 160.  During this time, the 911 center received a call from a subject who was later identified as Michael Baker-Guererro, a passenger in the vehicle, reporting a shooting in the area.  As deputies were attempting to contact the occupants of the Volkswagen, the vehicle fled south on I-5. Deputies, Oregon State Police Troopers, and Sutherlin Police Officers pursued the vehicle south on I-5.  During the pursuit, a subject later identified as Nathan Leitz, the driver of the Volkswagen, called the 911 center to report a stabbing in the Yoncalla area.  The vehicle exited the freeway at exit 140 and eventually led officers to the Oakland High School parking lot....

Responders Assist Three in Springfield after Tree Falls on House

American Red Cross - Cascades Region  - 08/31/18  Disaster responders with the local American Red Cross responded to a tree falling onto a home on August 30, 2018, at approximately 10:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Game Farm Road in Springfield, Oregon. This disaster affected two adults and one child. The Red Cross provided resources to help address the immediate basic needs of those affected such as temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits with toiletry items, and information about recovery services. Additional information about this incident, if available, may be obtained from the local first responding agency/fire department. The Red Cross in Oregon and Southwest Washington (the Cascades Region) helps an average of three families affected by disasters, like home fires, every day. Police investigating collision of train and cyclist

Salem Police Dept.  - 08/30/18  On August 30, 2018 at approximately 7:30 pm Salem police officers and Salem firefighters responded to State Street and 12th Street on the report of a bicyclist being struck by a train. The male cyclist was declared deceased at the scene by medics. Witnesses reported that the male cyclist had been riding westbound on State Street when he approached the railroad crossing and was struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train. Based on the initial investigation, it appears that the railroad warnings and barriers were functioning at the time of the collision. The deceased's identity will not be released until his next of kin have been notified. It is anticipated that eastbound State Street at 12th Street will be closed for the next few hours while the investigation is completed.

Homicide Investigation in Josephine County

Oregon State Police  - 08/30/18 On August 29, 2018 at approximately 5:25 PM deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of deceased male at a residence on Riverbanks Rd.  Upon arrival deputies located the body of an adult male at the residence.  Josephine County requested a Major Crimes Team activation and the Oregon State Police was assigned to lead the investigation. Investigation is continuing and no further information will be released at this time.

Winston City Police Chief Scott Gugel Retires

8/30/2018 Chief Scott Gugel (231) going 12-26 for final time. Winston Police Chief Scott Gugel is retiring and a celebration to honor him is being held Thursday afternoon. Gugel was sworn in as a Reserve patrolman in Winston at the start of 1989. He became a full-time officer two months later. In 2004 he became the Chief of Police. Gugel had the dual role of also being the City Manager in Winston from August of 2015 until May of 2016. Community members will gather to honor Chief Gugel from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Winston Community Center on Southeast Grape Avenue. Call Winston City Hall at 679-6739 for more information. Suspect Arrested in Portland Sex Assault Investigation

Portland Police Bureau  - 08/30/18 On August 11, 2018, at 10:54 p.m., 64-year-old Sandy S. Ortiz was arrested in San Diego, California, in connection to a Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Sex Assault Detail Investigation. This investigation began in May 2018, when a community member contacted the Portland Police Bureau and reported he had been sexually assaulted by Ortiz from the summer of 2000 through the summer of 2001. The Portland Police Bureau Detective Division's Sex Assault Detail received information about the report and continued the investigation. Based on information learned during the investigation, detectives believe Ortiz met the victim at the Multnomah County Health Department's Northeast Health Center, located at 5329 Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. Firefighters remove 3 victims from early morning fire in Cedar Mill

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue  - 08/30/18  Just before 1:00 am this morning firefighters were called to a residential fire in the 12800 block of NW Lovejoy Ct. located in the Cedar Mill area of unincorporated Washington County.   Multiple callers to our 911 dispatch center reported seeing heavy flames and dark smoke coming from the residence.  Crews from TVF&R station 61 arrived within minutes of being dispatched and found heavy flames coming from the front of the residence with a partial roof collapse near the front door.  Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and began to search for victims inside the residence.  During the search firefighters located three fire victims inside the home.  The victims were removed and brought to awaiting medical personnel where lifesaving efforts were immediately started.  Due to the volume of fire and the number of victims located the incident commander called for a second alarm to brin...

Former Cottage Grove Police Officer Accused of Stealing Meth from Evidence Locker

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon  - 08/29/18  EUGENE, Ore. – A criminal complaint was unsealed today alleging Phillip Allan Beach, 48, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, knowingly and intentionally took possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, or subterfuge. As alleged in the criminal complaint, in May 2015, an evidence coordinator at the Cottage Grove Police Department (CGPD) reported to their supervisor that Beach accessed the department’s evidence locker more frequently than other officers and seemed to do so for no apparent purpose. The coordinator said that Beach would repeatedly access the same evidence bag. A CGPD commander later examined the bag and observed that it was open and two plastic bags inside containing several ounces of methamphetamine crystals had been sliced open. Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT)  - 08/29/18  On Tuesday, August 28th, 2018, DINT arrested 33 year old Anthony McGregor of Roseburg.  Mcgregor was wanted by the Roseburg Police Department in connection with a release agreement violation.   At approximately 12:45 PM, DINT located McGregor in the 5000 block of Grange Road, in the Green area.  McGregor was detained without incident.  A search of McGregor revealed almost a half pound (207.3 grams) of suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials (typically used to package smaller amounts of drugs), a set of scales (typically used to weigh out smaller quantities of drugs), and an undisclosed amount of cash.   This is the second recent arrest of McGregor by DINT.  On August 20th, 2018, DINT arrested McGregor after he was found to be in possession of approximately 165 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 44 grams of suspected heroin.  That day McGregor was charged...

Welfare Check leads to burglary and theft arrest

Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Office  - 08/29/18  On August 28, 2018 at about 8:00 pm Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a welfare check in the area of the Keys Place in Lincoln City, Oregon.  Lincoln City Dispatch advised they received a 911 call from a female advising she was lost in the area and scared.  At about 8:40 pm Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies arrived in the area of the callers last known location and located a female, Desirae J. Zaher, 32, of Merlin, Oregon on private property near the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge.   Upon contact with Zaher, Deputies determined Zaher had driven her vehicle onto private property where she lodged her vehicle in the dense brush and was unable to drive out.  During further investigation Deputies located various items to include a boat and a riding lawn mower near Zaher's location and determined those items were stolen from nearby storage buildings.  Deputi...

Suspect Jailed in Prospect Stabbing

Sheriff's Office  - 08/27/18 PROSPECT, Ore. – One woman is in jail and another is recovering from a stab wound after a fight in Prospect on Sunday afternoon.  Detectives say the altercation started outside the library, which was closed at the time. On August 26, 2018, at 1:02 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting a stabbing at the Prospect branch of the Jackson County Library, 150 Mill Creek Drive.  A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputy patrolling in the area arrived on scene within three minutes of the 911 call, but both the victim and suspect had already fled. Detectives later learned that Melissa Renea Peck, 21, and Haylee Nicole Brewer, 19, both of the Prospect area, arrived at the library and began arguing about their romantic involvement with the same man.  The fight turned physical, and then Peck obtained a knife and stabbed Brewer in the chest. Former school employee pleads guilty to luring a minor after she sent him nude images of herself

District Attorney's Office  - 08/27/18  Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced 32-year-old Kecia Jean Weaver pleaded guilty to one count of luring a minor and was sentenced to 24 months of formal probation following an investigation into allegations she sent sexually explicit images of herself to a student enrolled at a local high school. “This [plea] offer was carefully crafted after going through the facts of this case, after discussions with the victim and especially after a lot of the mitigation provided by the defense in this particular case [was reviewed],” Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Nicole Hermann said during Monday’s hearing. “There was a very extensive psycho-sexual evaluation that was done that provided a lot of information both about Ms. Weaver and about how to move forward. ...A lot of the conditions of this probation rely heavily on the treatment classes and counseling as recommended [in] that evaluation...

Man falls 150 feet while "free climbing" in Smith Rock State Park

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 08/26/18  Terrebonne, OR – Man falls 125 feet while “free climbing” in Smith Rock State Park and taken to St. Charles Hospital Bend with life threatening injuries. On August 26, 2018, at approximately 4:04PM, Deschutes County Deputies, Redmond Fire Medics and members of the Deschutes County Search and Rescue MRU and Medical teams were dispatched to a serious fall in the most southern portion of Smith Rock State Park. Sheriff Deputies and Redmond Fire Medics hiked into the park and reached the patient, Benjamin Schulman, age 21, of Alexandria, Virginia, on a steep hill about 100 yards above the river trail. They provided care until Deschutes County Search and Rescue personnel arrived to assist with the hillside evacuation. This process took over two hours because of Schulman's location and injuries. Oregon State Fire Marshal  - 08/26/18  [Sams Valley] Over the last 36 hours, firefighters have been able to capitalize on the cooler weather and have gained excellent progress in securing containment lines.  On the east side of the fire, mop up operations built upon containment lines that have now held for several days.  There were a couple of spot fires caught outside of those containment lines yesterday, but those were holdover spots from previous days that were discovered by air resources and were quickly contained by firefighters on the ground. The southern and western containment lines are holding well along Ramsey Canyon Road.  Burnout operations and mop up behind homes along East Evans Creek Road have been so successful that fire officials have decided to demobilize some of the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal structure protection task forces this morning.  If progress continues as planned, the remainder of structure protection task force...

Sheriff's Office  - 08/25/18 On 08/24/2018, your Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle located approximately 4.5 miles up a logging road outside Lincoln City. Upon arrival, Deputies found evidence indicating the operator of the vehicle had left the immediate area and may have been despondent. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers responded to the area and began conducting search operations using Ground Search Teams, Motorized Search Teams, and a Man-Tracking Team. Approximately five hours into search operations, a deceased female was found 1.6 miles from the vehicle.
