FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5 - JOSEPHINE COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at approximately 11:14 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a three vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near mile post 67. Preliminary investigation revealed that three vehicles were southbound on I-5 when a collision occurred.  Southbound vehicles were a Toyota Sienna, operated by Denise Watts (37) of Medford, a Buick LCR, operated by Rolland Wytcherley (85) of Wolf Creek, and a Dodge Avenger operated by Wendy Lynn (58) of Grants Pass. Investigators are still attempting to determine the exact sequence of events but believe poor visibility from rain and fog was a factor. Watts sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Wytcherley and his passenger, Maria Wytcherley (72) of Wolf Creek, were transported to the hospital with injuries. Lynn and her passenger were not injured.   Salem Police Dept. UPDATE at 2335:  Ivonna has been located and is safe with her parents. Thank you to the Salem community for their concern. Salem, Ore. - At approximately 7:00p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 the Salem Police Department received a call of a lost child. Ivonna Cofey, age 6, left her residence with her twin sister and became separated at approximately 5:00 p.m.  Ivonna is described as a slender, black child of light complexion. She is believed to be wearing a grey shirt and pink tights. She was last seen in the Lakeside Village Mobile Home park in the 3300 block of Turner RD SE. In addition to Salem police and fire personnel, the Marion County Search and Rescue team has been deployed and is actively searching the area. OREGON STATE POLICE ARREST ARSON SUSPECT - MARION COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On September 14, 2020 Detectives from the Oregon State Police Arson Section responded to the 33000 block of North Fork Road to assist the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Stayton Fire Department with an arson investigation. On January 29, 2021 Detectives arrested William (Dale) Hopson (48) of Lyons for Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Arson, Criminal Mischief and Reckless Endangering.  He was lodged at the Marion County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on February 1, 2021. Investigation revealed that on September 9, 2020, two days after the initial Beachie Creek Fire (September 7, 2020) burned through the Detroit, Gates, Mill City and Lyons areas, Hopson returned to the area and intentionally set fire to his neighbors residence.  Hopson and the neighbor’s residence had not been damaged by the Beachie Creek Fire.

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 26 - CLACKAMAS COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Friday, January 29, 2021 at approximately 6:05 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 26 near milepost 17 (Stone Rd). Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F250, operated by Trever Lee (33) of Sandy, was westbound at a high rate of speed when it hit the back of a GMC Sierra operated by an adult male.  His name will be released later today. The operator of the GMC Sierra is being identified as Grant Fischer (23) of Boring. Lee was released from the hospital and transported to the Clackamas County Jail where he was lodged for Criminally Negligent Homicide, Manslaughter, Reckless Driving, and DUII.  The operator of the GMC Sierra was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. DEATH INVESTIGATION - CLACKAMAS COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at approximately 7:37 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers were called to the northbound French Prairie rest area on Interstate 5 in Clackamas County.  A male was discovered deceased inside a parked vehicle.  The manner of his death is being treated as suspicious, and investigators are actively examining the circumstances surrounding his death.  The victim was a 16 year old from Washington state. The name will not be released as he was a juvenile and this is an ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.  

MISSING WOMAN FOUND DECEASED

  Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office REEDSPORT, Ore.  - On Friday, January, 22, 2021, at approximately 3:00 pm, a deputy was notified of a vehicle off of the side of the road near milepost 36 on Lower Smith River Road. The caller reported finding a dog near the vehicle and stated he had taken the dog with him. The vehicle did not appear to have been involved in a traffic crash and the vehicle doors were locked. The deputy conducted a DMV check on the vehicle and learned it was registered to a female in Winchester Bay (not Garrison). The deputy drove to the registered owner's residence and attempted to make contact, but did not receive a response. VEHICLE PURSUIT WITH SHOTS FIRED

Sheriff's Office On January 28, 2021 at 1:53am, a Deputy with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office stopped to assist with what was believed to be a stranded motorist near the intersection of Riverbanks Road and Lower River Road. As the Deputy approached the vehicle, it left at a high rate of speed, spinning the tires and sliding sideways in the roadway.  With emergency lights activated, the Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, however it continued east bound on Lower River Road towards Grants Pass at speeds up to 90 mph.  At this point, a vehicle pursuit was initiated.  Near the intersection of Lower River Road and Stewart Road, the suspect vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and the male driver reached out the driver window with a handgun and shot at the Deputy who was still seated in his vehicle.  The Deputy was not struck and the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed continuing towards Grants Pass with the Deputy still in pursui...

Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance locating 80 year old missing man James Otterlee. James was last seen yesterday, January 27, 2021, around 11:30 a.m. when he left his home near Pine Grove Rd. in Eugene to go to Fred Meyer on West 11th in Eugene. James was last seen driving a silver, 2002 Hyundai Sante Fe with Oregon plate # 731 LVF. Sheriff's Office On Wednesday 01/27/2021 at approximately 1000 hours, Deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 3000 block of Leland Road for a landlord tenant issue involving the use of a firearm. Upon investigation, Deputies determined Lauren McLennan fired his revolver into a male victim’s unoccupied vehicle and at the male victim during the incident, nearly striking the victim. INJURY CRASH ON HWY 99E - MARION COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at approximately 2:07 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a three vehicle crash on Hwy 99E near milepost 39.   Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet pickup, operated by Tyler Cook (26) of Gervais, was northbound when it rear-ended a stopped Chevrolet pickup, operated by Jonathan Morgan (60) of Salem.  Morgan's Chevrolet pickup was forced into the southbound lane where it collided with a Dodge minivan, operated by Amisaday Espinosa-Feria (29) of Woodburn.  Morgan was stopped to turn into an adjacent driveway.     Espinosa-Feria was transported by life flight to the Salem Hospital.  Cook was transported by ground ambulance to the Salem Hospital.  Morgan was transported by private vehicle to the Salem Hospital.  OSP was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Woodburn Fire Department, Keizer Fire D...

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office seeks public information in missing person case

  Lincoln County Sheriff's Office The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is seeking information related to the disappearance of Adrian Alonzo Smith.  Adrian Smith is a 49 year-old male who was last seen on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, when friend dropped him off at the Drift Creek Falls Trailhead. Adrian missed his scheduled pickup the following day and LCSO Search and Rescue was notified.  Multiple areas were searched over several operational periods, but Adrian could not be located. There has been a high level of hiking activity in and around the Drift Creek Falls area.  It is likely that someone has had contact with Adrian, particularly around the 19th or 20th of January.  Adrian is about 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair.  He has numerous tattoos on his upper body; most notably a large pair of wings on his back. AUTO VS PEDESTRIAN CRASH ON WILLIAMS HWY

  Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On January 26, 2021 at about 1910 Hours, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS) Dispatch received numerous 911 calls of a male subject being struck by a vehicle on Williams Hwy near New Hope Rd. Personnel from the GPDPS Police, Fire/Rescue, AMR and Rural Metro Fire responded to the scene. The male subject was located near the "A" lane of the highway and the scene was secured, which involved the closure of Williams Hwy from W. Harbeck to New Hope for over 4 hours.  Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck the male subject remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The deceased male is a 20 year-old from New York whose name will not be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.  GPDPS Traffic Team members and Detectives responded to the scene and continued the investigation. EPD Investigates White Van in Social Media Posts About Screaming Females

Eugene Police Departmen   Eugene Police responded to a call on January 25 regarding a white van with blanked-out back windows and someone heard screaming. This was at E. Broadway and Patterson. Officers stopped a van in the area, and found that it was a work van with no one else inside except the driver, and no other vans were observed in the area that matched the description.    A video of the van was posted by a public member on social media, including Tik Tok and Twitter. Since then, 911 has been receiving calls about the social media posts. EPD has been following up with search for surveillance, other evidence, and checking calls and sightings of white vans. The van has been located and is no longer of interest. UPDATE January 26, 2021 at 1800  — The medical examiner has confirmed the findings of no foul play in the death of Kristopher Allen Rice whose body was found on the riverbank of the Willamette on Saturday, January 23.   Rice was seen by officers on January 7 during an attempt to reach him in relation to an arrest warrant. Officers were unsuccessful as Rice immediately fled before officers could physically reach him. Rice disregarded officers calling out to him as he fled. He was seen going into the river. A search for Rice was initiated including the deployment of a Salem Fire Department rescue boat. Rice was not found, and the search discontinued. 18-YEAR-OLD HOSPITALIZED FOLLOWING MONDAY EVENING SHOOTING IN EAST SALEM

 Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On Monday evening, Jan. 25th, 2021, at 7:27 p.m. multiple callers reported hearing gunshots on Cheryl Lynn Way in the northeast area of Salem. When deputies arrived they found a white SUV crashed into the side of an apartment building and an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound was located in a nearby apartment. Deputies began providing emergency medical aid to the male while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. The male was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in critical condition. Investigators remained on scene for several hours while processing the area of the shooting for evidence. The apartment building sustained minor damages from the vehicle impact; no people inside of the apartment were injured by the collision. WOMAN FOUND DECEASED IN UMPQUA RIVER

  Roseburg Police Dept. Update - In this earlier release we indicated the decedent was released to the custody of the Medical Examiner.  For clarification purposes the appropriate title is the Douglas County Medicolegal Death Investigator.  A Medicolegal Death Investigator investigates deaths, they do not determine cause and manner of death.  Cause and manner of death is determined by the Chief Medical Examiner or a Deputy State Medical Examiner, who is a licensed physician. On January 25th, 2021 just after 3:30 PM, Roseburg Police Officers and other emergency services personnel responded to the Umpqua River behind Gaddis Park in Roseburg.  A passerby reported seeing a body floating in the river in that area. Officers located an adult female, deceased, floating face-down in approximately 3 feet of water. SHOOTING INVESTIGATION WEST OF SISTERS

  Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office On January 17, 2021 at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office received a report of a vehicle being shot at a long-term camp in the area of USFS road 1510 near the 450 spur, approximately 5 miles west of Sisters.  A green mid 1990’s Chevrolet Tahoe had been shot multiple times by an unknown subject near the camp. This vehicle was in very close proximity to a tent that was being used for housing. The occupants of the camp called 911 and deputies responded to the area and were assisted by a US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer.  Additionally, a USFS Law Enforcement K-9 responded to search the area extensively, however no suspects were located. FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Sheriff's Office On Saturday, January 23, 2021 at approximately 7:53 am, Deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 3500 block of Demaray Drive for a motor vehicle accident involving a 10-yard dump truck and a 50cc scooter.  Oregon State Police also responded and assisted with the investigation.  Upon investigation, Deputies determined that 72 year old Kenneth Law was operating a 50cc scooter, which attempted to cross Demaray Drive in front of the dump truck.  Despite efforts of emergency medical personnel, Law was pronounced deceased at the scene.  It is believed Law was crossing the roadway in dense fog to reach a nearby convenience store.  The operator of the dump truck has been cooperative with investigators and criminal charges are not expected in this case.   

NORTHEAST SALEM SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION

Salem, Ore.  — On Sunday, January 24, 2021 at approximately 10:45 a.m. Salem Police officers responded to the area of Williams AV NE and Carlton WY NE on multiple calls of gunshots. According to witnesses, the occupants of three vehicles had shot at each other before leaving the area. Some of the suspects were also seen running from one of the vehicles. Currently, there are no reported injuries. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available. Detective Lieutenant Michael Bennett said about the incident, “We know these events are traumatic and can disrupt an entire neighborhood. We want residents to know we are working very hard to identify those involved and to bring a sense of safety back to the neighborhood. BODY RECOVERED FROM WILLAMETTE RIVER

  Salem Police Dept. Salem, Ore. — On Saturday, January 23, 2021 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the Salem Police and Fire Departments received a call of a body found in the water near the west bank of Wallace Marine Park. A passerby noticed the body. When officers arrived, they located the body entangled in brush and partially submerged. The area had recently been covered by high water. The Polk County Medical-Legal Death Examiner responded to the scene. Based on the initial investigation no foul play appears to be involved and the cause of death is presumed to be water related. The deceased has been identified as Kristopher Allen Rice, age 28 of Salem.

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 101 - TILLAMOOK COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Saturday, January 23, 2021 at approximately 1:01 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle collision on Hwy 101 near mile post 53. Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Clubwagon van, operated by Robert Muzzy (69) of Nehalem, was southbound and went into the northbound lane colliding with a Nissan Rogue operated by Leeanna Sutton (63) of Rockaway Beach.   Muzzy and Sutton both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased. OSP was assisted by the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Rockaway Beach Fire Department, Rockaway Beach Police Department and ODOT.

Attempted Robbery and Robbery at two locations in Bend, Suspect arrested

  Bend Police Dept. On Saturday, January 23, 2021 about 3:17 PM an employee at Cash Connection located at 1031 NE 5th Street in Bend, called 9-1-1 to report a suspicious male had just attempted to rob the store.  The caller told police that a suspicious male entered the store, approached the cashier and asked for money from the register.  The male left the store without any money.  The cashier provided police with a partial license plate and a full description of the suspect and vehicle (a silver Dodge van).  Based on information obtained during the investigation officers identified Levi Church as a person of interest.  No weapons were displayed or seen during this incident.   On Saturday, January 23, 2021 about 4:23 PM a male clerk from the Expressway Market & Gas Station located at 1450 SE Reed Market Road in Bend called 9-1-1 to report a robbery had just occurred at the store.  The clerk reported a male, who he knew as Levi Church, had just...

MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDERING HIS STEPFATHER

  Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday, January 22, 2021, at 12:49 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a welfare check in the 16100 block of NW Canterwood Way in Bethany. A woman called 911 to report a man at the home had been killed by a family member. Deputies arrived and found 91-year-old Gilbert Gutjahr injured inside the home. They immediately began life-saving efforts, but Mr. Gutjahr was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit responded and identified 31-year-old Jacob Nebeker of Wilsonville as the suspect. Mr. Nebeker, who is Mr. Gutjahr’s stepson, was arrested at the scene and lodged into jail for one count of murder in the second degree. He is being held without bail. The Oregon State Crime Lab helped process evidence at the scene. No additional information is being released at this time. DESMOND GARCIA ARRESTED FOR STABBING IN MYRTLE CREEK

Myrtle Creek Police Dept On January 22, 2021 at about 11:38 AM, Desmond Garcia contacted authorities through family members and said he wanted to turn himself in.  Myrtle Creek police contacted Garcia in Canyonville, where he was taken into custody without incident.   Garcia was transported to the Douglas County Jail, where he was lodged on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing.   The Myrtle Creek Police would like to thank the citizens who called in tips during this investigation.  This investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this point.

HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN YAMHILL COUNTY IDENTIFIED AS CALIFORNIA WOMAN

  Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office On January 18th, shortly before 9:00 a.m., a Yamhill County citizen located a suspicious object near the entrance to Stuart Grenfell Park, which is located at the intersection of Highway 18 and Harmony Road in rural Sheridan. The property owner promptly called law enforcement. Yamhill County Deputies arrived on scene and began an investigation, eventually requesting response from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU).  SIU members identified the contents as human remains. The remains were removed from the scene and transported to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. On January 19th the remains were confirmed to be that of an adult female. The female was later identified as 31-yr old Mariah Diane Lindgren. The last known address for Lindgren is Humbolt County, California.   Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Thursday, January 21st, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team arrested 38 year old Steven Randles of Roseburg.   DINT, with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on I-5 at milepost 155, near Curtin, Oregon.  A search revealed approximately 9 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 12 grams of suspected heroin.  Randles was lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawul Posession of Heroin.

TIMBER CREW FINDS SKELETAL REMAINS SOUTHEAST OF MOLALLA; HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED; TIPS SOUGHT

  Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office Clackamas County Sheriff's Office detectives are seeking tips after locating skeletal human remains in a remote wilderness area southeast of Molalla. The case is being investigated as a homicide. On Friday, Jan. 8, a Weyerhauser crew working in a wilderness area southeast of Molalla stumbled across human remains, including a partial human skull. The remains were found at a work site where the crew was planting trees, in a steep ravine off a private logging road. Scraps of clothing found in the area suggest the remains may have been there for some time. The remains predate the wildfires that swept through that area last September. WANTED FOR STABBING AT MILLSITE PARK

MYRTLE CREEK POLICE On January 19, 2021 at about 8:13 PM, officers were called to Millsite Park for a call of a male who had been stabbed.  The 40-year-old male was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.   It was discovered during the investigation that two subjects had approached the male and a confrontation ensued.  At some point one of the two subjects stabbed the man twice.  The two then fled the scene on foot.   The Myrtle Creek Police Department, along with assistance from the Oregon State Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have developed a suspect in the case.  Myrtle Creek Police have probable cause to arrest 18-year-old Desmond Matthew Garcia on assault charges in connection with the stabbing.  Garcia was last known to be staying in Myrtle Creek, but may have fled the area.  If you know of Garcia’s whereabouts you are urged to call the Myrtle Creek Po...

Small Plane Crashes Near Eagle Point

Jackson County Sheriff's Office On 01/21/21 at 1148 hours, 911 Dispatch received a call from a citizen reporting a small fixed wing aircraft had crashed in a field north of the 900 block of Yankee Creek Rd and east of the 700 block of Meridian Rd, near Eagle Point, Oregon.  The caller reported that the plane was on fire but the fire was not spreading. Two males described as being in their “twenties” had exited the plane on their own and were injured. They were later transported by Mercy Flights ambulance to a hospital. No details on their injuries are known but they are believed to not be life-threatening. The plane was found on its left side and had been destroyed except for part the tail section. Units from Jackson County Fire District 3 responded to the scene. The fire was limited to the aircraft. The aircraft was believed to be on a local flight.
