Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Sunday, August 30, 2020, members of the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) arrested 32 year old Sean Lovewell of Junction City, Oregon.   Lovewell was wanted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office regarding a case from earlier in the year.  DINT detectives learned of Lovewell's presence at a hotel in the 300 block of West Harvard Avenue in Roseburg.  Detectives believed Lovewell to be in possession of large amounts of narcotics, and possibly weapons.   Lovewell was taken into custody at the hotel without incident at approximately 10:30 AM.  Lovewell was initially charged with Attempt to Elude a Police Officer in a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering, all of those from the prior case by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. DINT detectives followed up with a search warrant for the hotel room that had been occupied by Lovewell.  A search of the room revealed approximately 812 grams of suspected

13-Year-Old Boy struck by Boat and Killed at Hagg Lake

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday, August 28, 2020, at 4:59 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple 911 calls at Hagg Lake in western Washington County. Callers were reporting that a person had been struck by a boat in the water and was severely injured. Deputies responded to the south side of the lake where the incident occurred. They found people rendering aid on the beach to a severely injured 13-year-old boy. Life Flight was activated and launched but was later turned back by paramedics on the scene who declared the victim deceased. After speaking to witnesses, deputies believe the victim and his two younger brothers were playing in the water near the shore. His grandparents and mother were on the shore watching them play. Glendale Man Leads Deputies On Pursuit, K9 Zoro Assists

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office GLENDALE, Ore.  - A Glendale man has been lodged in the Douglas County Jail after he lead deputies on a pursuit into the mountains.  Around 8:00 am on Thursday, August 27, 2020, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue 2006 Chevy Cobalt on Interstate 5 near milepost 99. The driver, later identified as 39 year-old Jason Edmund Dangerfield, refused to stop and lead deputies on a pursuit into the mountains approximately 5-6 miles NE of Glendale (42.82554861, -123.3011608). Dangerfield fled from the vehicle on foot down an embankment into very steep terrain.  K9 Zoro arrived on scene and began to search for Dangerfield with deputies. Deputies eventually located Dangerfield approximately 10 feet up a tree. PAIR ARRESTED IN GLIDE THEFTS

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office GLIDE, Ore.  - Deputies made arrests on Thursday related to several thefts in the Glide area.  Devin Ian Goodman and Alicia Ann Estrada, both 21 year-old (no permanent address), were suspects in two different thefts in the Glide area which had occurred over a 24-hour period. At approximately 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2020, deputies located the pair in a stolen 1998 Honda Civic on Little River Road near Highway 138E. A traffic stop was initiated near Catherine Avenue where they were taken into custody.  Both Goodman and Estrada admitted to committing the thefts. They were ultimately arrested and charged with the following:  Goodman:  Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle Possession of a Stolen Vehicle Parole Violation Theft II Theft III (Cited) Trespass (Cited) Estrada:  Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle Theft II Theft III (Cited) Trespass (Cited) Both remain lodged in the Douglas County Jail. 

UPDATE - Homicide Investigation - Lake County

Oregon State Police  On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, a Lake County Grand Jury indicted Dean Arthur Wood, age 32, for the murder of Jacob Wheat. On Monday, July 6, 2020 at 10:03 PM, Lake County 911 received an emergency call reporting a shooting at 11 North G Street in Lakeview, OR. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Oregon State Troopers responded and found Jacob Wheat, age 26, of Lakeview, OR laying in the parking lot.  Mr. Wheat was critically injured and died while responding officers attempted first aid. The Lake County Major Crime Team was activated to investigate Mr. Wheat’s death. Dean Arthur Wood has been charged with Murder 2, Assault 1, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon related to the incident on July 6, 2020. Additionally, Dean Arthur Wood’s wife, Misty Lynn Wood, age 32, was indicted for Hindering Prosecution and Tampering with Physical Evidence related to events following the murder of Jacob Wheat. Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office On Monday, August 24th , 2020, about 4:46 PM, Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon received a 911 call, in which the caller advised they could hear yelling and then gunshots. This occurred in the 3300 block of Hwy 227.  ECSO received a second phone call advising there had been a shooting. The 911 call taker provided CPR instructions for those on scene and they began rendering aid to the individual who was shot. A JCSO Deputy arrived about 4:59 PM and assisted with life saving measures until medical personnel arrived. Despite all efforts, the individual, who was identified as Steven G. Sutton DOB 1/27/95, passed away at the location. M.A.D.I.U. (Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit) was requested to assume the investigation. Fatal Crash on Interstate 5 - Linn County

Oregon State Police  On Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at approximately 4:53 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle collision on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 233. Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford F350 pickup, operated by Colton Neuschwander (30) of Harrisburg, was northbound in the fast lane when a male pedestrian ran into his path and he was unable to avoid striking him. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased.  Name will be released when it is appropriate. Oregon State Police was assisted by Linn County Sheriff's Office, Albany Fire and Rescue, and ODOT.

OREGON STATE POLICE REQUESTING PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE - LANE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On August 23, 2020, at approximately 07:30 am Troopers from Oregon State Police Florence and Springfield Area Command responded to an injured male on SR 126 W near milepost 26.5.  The male victim was located on the highway with extensive injuries to his head, face and body and was transported to Peace Harbor in Florence for treatment of his injuries.  It was reported that Michael Light and two additional unknown males had assaulted the male victim for an extended period of time in his campsite before Michael Light left with a female victim against her will.  At some point in the early morning hours the male victim escaped into a heavily forested area and hid until daylight hours before he was eventually found on the highway.   An area search located Michael Light and the female victim in a vehicle in the area.  Michael Light was taken into custody without further incident.  The female was treated at the scene for minor injuries.  Follow up investigati

Large Fire along Railroad Track

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety Grants Pass Fire Rescue arrived on scene of a large pile of railroad ties that caught fire just after 6:00 am yesterday morning.  The fire was reported to be alongside the railroad tracks just behind the Oregon Youth Authority at 2001 NE F St in Grants Pass.  Crews quickly controlled the large fire and limited the spread to the surrounding vegetation and brush.  Crews from Grants Pass City Streets brought in a Backhoe and Excavator to help move the large timbers along with Rural Metro Fire also assisted with the scene.  Smoke was visible for most of the day while crews completed the difficult mop up of the large timbers.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding the fire is urged to call Grants Pass Fire Rescue at 541-450-6200.  We would like to remind everyone with the hot dry weather to be careful while enjoying outside actives this time of year.

Corvallis Police ask for help in finding missing at-risk teen

Corvallis Police On Thursday August 20th Ava Carey, age 16, left her home in northeast Corvallis to go to a nearby park.  She did not return when expected.  Ava’s family reported her as missing to the Corvallis Police Department that night, expressing their amplified concern because Ava is a special needs child.  The Corvallis Police Department shares the Carey family’s concern and continues to work day and night to find Ava Carey.  Officers have searched the area with the assistance of the Corvallis Police K9, continue to canvass surrounding neighborhoods and engaged the community in an effort to locate her. We have also been in communication with other law enforcement agencies and community partners to ask for their help in finding Ava.  We are grateful to the community volunteers who have come out to help search for her and post flyers in coordination with the Corvallis School District. UPDATE - OREGON STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING ON INTERSTATE 5 -- JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Thursday, August 20, 2020, Oregon State Police arrested Kenneth Ayers (49) from Roseburg in connection with the Interstate 5 shooting on August 19, 2020.  Ayers was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on the following charges – Attempted Murder, Assault 2, Unlawful Use of a Weapon (7), Criminal Mischief 2 (7), and Recklessly Endangering Another Person (13). Ayers is also the suspect in the series of shootings that have been occurring on Interstate 5 beginning in late May. District Attorneys from Douglas and Josephine County will work with the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office as there will be additional charges and they will all be presented to a Jackson County Grand Jury.   OSP will be working with the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office to provide more information this afternoon.   There is a tentative virtual press conference scheduled for the media at 2:00 P.M.   Media will need to email  osppio@osp.oregon.gov  to receive the lo

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On August 19th, 2020, at approximately 6:30 PM, The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) arrested three subjects in the 5,000 block of Umpqua Hwy 99 outside of Drain, for various drug crimes.  DINT detectives, with help from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, attempted a traffic stop on a 2007 Honda Civic being driven by 42 year old Sondra Haney of Roseburg.   Haney at first stopped, then tried to speed away and elude officers.  Haney was stopped for good in a very short distance just as passengers started throwing items from the vehicle.  Inside and outside of the vehicle detectives located approximately 905 grams (2 pounds) of suspected methamphetamine as well as a Kel Tec 9mm handgun.   All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail.  Haney had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for Probation Violation.  She was additionally charged with Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Unl

Residential Structure Fire - 1096 NE Rifle Range - 8-18-20

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 11:13 p.m. on August 18, 2020, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported residential structure fire at 1096 NE Rifle Range.   The reporting party stated all residents were out of the structure.  Upon arrival on scene, firefighters found a single story residential structure with an attached porch engulfed in flames and spreading to the structure.  Firefighters conducted a primary search to confirm no occupants were inside the structure.  Firefighters made an interior attack to extinguish the fire and completed overhaul.  The home sustained significant structural and water damage.  Two adult residents were displaced; however, no one was injured in the fire.  The American Red Cross is assisting the residents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although discarded smoking materials may have caused the fire.  Sixteen firefighters assisted with firefighting operations.  Other agencies assisting with the fire included Douglas

Shots Fired Incident

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety Grants Pass Oregon – On 08/17/20, at about 1pm, Grants Pass Police responded to a “shots fired” call with fighting heard in the 1100 Block of SW Cottonwood Street.  Multiple police units responded to the area and established a perimeter around a home where the gunshot came from.  An adult male victim was located nearby and immediately linked to the incident.  Due to the severity of the crime, along with an elevated concern for community safety, police units secured a large portion of Cottonwood and evacuated several neighboring homes.  Although police made several attempts to contact people inside the home, nobody responded. Shortly thereafter the Grants Pass SWAT Team was activated, surrounded the home and tried several additional times to contact people believed to be inside the home – again, nobody responded.  At 5pm, several hours after police initially surrounded the home, SWAT deployed OC canisters into the home in an effort to get the p

Oregon State Police  On Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at approximately 10:48 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 38 near milepost 51. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford Explorer, operated by Alec Beutler (28) of Eugene, was westbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree. Woman found deceased in hotel room; man in custody

Corvallis Police On August 10th at about 4:05am Corvallis Police Officers responded to a downtown business when an employee called at the request of George Spencer.  Spencer, who appeared to be under the influence of a drug(s), reported to officers that he had been assaulted in his nearby hotel room, but did not provide information to corroborate his report of an assault.  The hotel number he provided was fictitious, and Spencer’s only injury was as small scratch on his cheek.  At about 5:23am Spencer called from his actual hotel room at 345 NW 2nd St #115 to report a theft of his property.  When officers arrived, they observed an unresponsive female on the hotel room bed.  Officers attempted to administer aid, but she was already deceased.  The female was identified as Gina Vargas. ODOT: SW Oregon Oregon 38 (Umpqua Highway) will be limited to a single lane of traffic throughout the night between Scottsburg and Wells Creek due to a roadside fire at milepost 17. The highway had been closed for about four hours this afternoon. Motorists should drive with caution and expect delays. Traffic control will be provided by flaggers and pilot cars.

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon Defendant perpetrated one of the largest deceased beneficiary frauds in Social Security Administration history MEDFORD, Ore.—U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams announced today that a Klamath Falls, Oregon man is facing federal criminal charges for cashing more than $458,000 worth of social security checks issued in the name of his deceased aunt. George Doumar, 76, has been charged by complaint with theft of public funds and mail theft. According to court documents, in February 2020, the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Office of Anti-Fraud Programs identified a 114-year-old supercentenarian who appeared to be the second-oldest living person in the U.S. receiving Social Security retirement benefits. SSA systems indicated that no updates had been made to the person’s benefit record in more than 30 years, leading SSA staff to believe that the person may be deceased. Oregon State Police The Oregon State Police is again requesting the public's assistance in identifying the person (s) responsible for shooting at vehicles on Interstate 5 in Douglas, Josephine and Jackson Counties. From the time of the first request for assistance on July 14, 2020 several additional vehicles have been confirmed to have been struck by bullets. Previously only Douglas and Josephine Counties had confirmed bullet strikes. The geographic location has been expanded to include Jackson County. No injuries have been reported. If you are traveling on Interstate 5 and believe your vehicle has been struck with a bullet please call 911. Note the time, location and if possible continue out of the area. CODE Team Drug Arrest

Central Oregon Drug Enforcement On Friday, August 7, 2020 at approximately 1800 hrs. Detectives assigned to the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team, along with assistance from the Bend Police Department, contacted and arrested Jimmie Ginn on the below listed charges. The arrest of Ginn was the result of a short-term drug investigation by the CODE team into the illegal trafficking of commercial quantities of methamphetamine by Ginn throughout the Deschutes County region.  The investigation revealed that Ginn would travel outside the area and purchase large quantities of methamphetamine. He would then return to Deschutes County and sell the drugs for profit.  On this date, law enforcement surveillance teams monitored Ginn’s activities, which included him conducting drug sales.  At approximately 1800 hrs. COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE - TOM THUMB MINI STORAGE - 3221 NW EDENBOWER BOULEVARD

Roseburg Fire Dept. At 6:55 p.m. on August 9, 2020, Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 3221 NW Edenbower Boulevard.  Dispatched received reports of a fire with explosions heard in the storage units at Tom Thumb Mini Storage.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find several storage units on fire within the commercial structures.  Firefighters worked throughout the evening to extinguish the fire and conduct extensive overhaul.  At 7:09 a.m. on August 10, 2020, firefighters were dispatched to a possible rekindle at 3221 NW Edenbower Boulevard with a report of smoke and flames seen by the reporting party.  Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire.   Firefighters remain on scene to conduct overhaul. A fire investigator is on scene and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.  The investigator will remain on scene for most of the day to process several storage units.  The commercial structures

Suicidal Man Arrested After Firing a Weapon in the Presence of Police

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On the listed date and time, Officers from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety received a request for a welfare check on a possible suicidal male subject in the area of SW Humanity Way.  The caller advised 41-year-old Kenneth Charles Sumner was intoxicated and trying to break into a gun safe, all the while  threatening to commit suicide.  The other occupants in the residence left due to Summers intoxication and threats to harm himself. Officers arrived on scene and attempted to contact Sumner to offer assistance.  Sumner refused any assistance and threatened to harm the officers should they approach his residence.  At the time of the contact, officers believed Sumner was not a direct threat to anyone but himself.  Due to Sumners threats, and belief he had access to weapons, officers attempted to ensure the public was safe and backed away from the residence.  As the officers were starting to leave the area, they heard a large caliber r
