A Mortuary Worker Steals Money From A Deceased Subject's Wallet. Arrested On Charges of Burglary I and Theft II

Coos County Sheriff's Office On December 30, 2023 at 12:30 a.m. Deputy S. Starr responded to a residence in Lakeside, Oregon, to a report of a welfare check being requested by an out-of-state family member. As a result of the investigation, the homeowner was found to be deceased.  Per Sheriff’s Office policy, a non-preference mortuary was called to remove the victim. Deputy Starr removed several items from the residence for safekeeping, including some U.S. Currency, until the family could take possession of the valuables.  While processing the valuables at the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Starr noticed $300 missing from the victim’s wallet. Deputy Starr immediately reported the discrepancy to his supervisor, who began an investigation into the missing money.  During the investigation, the mortuary worker, Kyle A. Robertson (36) of Coos Bay, was contacted and admitted to taking the money from the victim’s wallet. Mr. Robertson returned $200 in his possession and advised he had already p

GRESHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL PEDESTRIAN INVOLVED TRAFFIC CRASH

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.—A pedestrian involved traffic crash resulted in Gresham’s 15th traffic fatality this year. Shortly after 5:15 p.m., Gresham police officers and medical personnel responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the 1900 block of SE 182 Ave. An off-duty paramedic was nearby and provided initial medical care for the pedestrian. Despite the efforts of the paramedic and additional medical responders, the pedestrian died as a result of the injuries she sustained from the collision. The pedestrian was not using a crosswalk while crossing the street at the time of the crash. The driver of the vehicle remained and the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Officers shut down traffic on SE 182   Ave. between SE Division St. and SE Main St. for the investigation. The East Metro Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT) responded to investigate the crash. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UPDATE

Gresham Police Dept Detectives are continuing their investigation into a disturbance that resulted in a fatal shooting on Thursday evening. Gresham Police responded to a report of a disturbance near the intersection of SE Orient Dr. and SE Anderson Rd. shortly before 10 p.m.  A person, later identified as 34-year-old Austin Brand of Damascus, had been involved in multiple physical confrontations in that area.  Brand was shot during the final confrontation.   Arriving officers rendered medical assistance, but Brand died at the scene.   We are still reviewing the actions of those involved to determine whose actions were criminal and if any were justifiable self-defense.  When the investigation is completed, it will be reviewed by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.   Detectives believe members of the public may have had contact with Brand in the Damascus area in the hours before the shooting.  Anyone who had contact with Brand or witnessed the disturbances can call the Gresh

UPDATE - SUSPECT ARRESTED - 4X FATAL CRASH- HWY 97- DESCHUTES COUNTY

Oregon State Police On October 12, 2023 at approximately 7:32pm, Jesse Carl Ross, 43, of Corvallis, MT was driving a Chevy Silverado northbound on the highway when he crossed the center line, sideswiped a southbound semi-truck and trailer and struck a Toyota RAV4 driven by Gary Rutledge, 57, head-on. The SUV caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames after the crash. The crash occurred about two miles south of Terrebonne. Gary Rutledge, his wife Michelle, 53, and their two children, Kate, 15, and Ryan, 17, both Reynolds High School students, died at the scene. They were on their way to view the solar eclipse in Central Oregon.    Ross was indicted on 4 Counts of Manslaughter in the First Degree in Deschutes County and a nationwide warrant was issued for his arrest. Ross turned himself to the Deschutes County Jail on 12/26/2023. Ross is facing other charges of DUII, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering.    Ross was arraigned on 12/28/2023 and bail was kept at $2 Million. ____

Man Arrested After Fleeing From Sheriff’s Deputy On Stolen Motorcycle

Coos County Sheriff's Office   On December 29, 2023, at 1:49 p.m., Sgt. A. Slater observed a spray-painted black motorcycle with a male occupant driving poorly near Kruse Ave and Hwy 101 on the south side of Coos Bay. Sgt. Slater moved behind the vehicle and continued to observe poor driving behavior, including bad passes, no turn signals, and noticed the motorcycle did not have a visible license plate. Sgt. Slater attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the motorcycle, and the operator, later identified as Michael D. Farnham (44) of Coos Bay, failed to stop. A short vehicle pursuit resulted, crossing the Isthmus Slew bridge into Eastside and reaching speeds of 60 mph. While attempting a turn at the intersection of 6th Street and D Ave in Eastside, Mr. Farnham crashed and slid off the roadway onto the sidewalk before impacting a brick wall. Suspect Killed in Confrontation with Police Identified

Portland Police Bureau The suspect who was killed after a confrontation with police on December 27th is identified as Tyrone Lee Johnson II, 33. His family has been notified of his death. The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was gunshot wounds. Further details about the previous robbery and other criminal investigations involving the suspect are not being released at this time as multiple investigations are underway. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is required by policy while a use of deadly force investigation is underway. Those officers will be identified within 15 days of the incident. Deputies Stop Reckless Driver Using Spike Strips

Sheriff's Office On Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:28 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a request for assistance from Astoria Police Department in locating a reckless driver who took off from them after attempting a traffic stop.   Astoria police officers attempted to pull over a silver 2004 BMW for a traffic violation. However, the driver did not stop and drove towards the city of Warrenton, where Warrenton police officers observed the vehicle driving recklessly at 120 mph. The BMW was last seen heading east on Highway 26 south of Seaside.   Washington County deputies located the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 26 and Highway 47. Deputies got behind the BMW, and the driver took off again at a high speed.    Deputies ahead of the speeding BMW successfully used spike strips to slow down the BMW. UPDATE: SUSPECT WHO FIRED SHOTS AT POLICE ARRESTED

Portland Police Bureau The suspect who fired shots at police in the Centennial Neighborhood has been taken into custody and the shelter-in-place order is being rescinded. On Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 8:09p.m., East Precinct responded to a report that a wanted suspect was seen in the area of Southeast Division Street and Southeast 143rd Avenue. The named suspect was an adult male wanted related to a recent homicide case. Officers located the suspect leaving an apartment and driving away in a vehicle. Officers deployed spike strips and deflated the tires of the vehicle. The suspect drove to an apartment in the 2700 block of Southeast 148th Avenue and was challenged by police officers. He produced a handgun and began firing shots at the officers. Officers moved to positions of cover and the suspect ran into an apartment. Tactical Team Responding to Centennial Neighborhood, Shelter in Place Order

Portland Police Bureau   The Portland Police tactical team is responding to an incident in the Centennial Neighborhood in which shots have been fired by a suspect at police. No officers have been injured. The Special Emergency Reaction Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team have been activated for the incident. The incident is happening on Southeast 148th Avenue just south of Southeast Division Street. Portland Police officers have set up a perimeter and roads are closed to all traffic between Southeast Division Street and Southeast Woodward Street, Southeast 148th Avenue and Southeast 153rd Avenue. Within that perimeter, the Public Alerts system has been activated. Community members have been asked to shelter in place, meaning remain inside with doors locked, stay away from windows. DETECTIVES SEEKING WITNESSES AND DASH CAM FOOTAGE IN GRESHAM HOMICIDE

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Gresham Police is asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation of a homicide discovered at SE Division St. and 190 Ave. Officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call on the morning of Dec. 26, reporting that a man on the sidewalk was unresponsive. Paramedics determined that Cody J. Funk, 35, who had been experiencing homelessness, was deceased. Detectives responded to the scene and the Multnomah County Medical Examiner subsequently performed an autopsy. It was determined that Cody died as a result of homicidal violence.   Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case, or anyone who had contact with Cody in the days leading up to Dec. 26, to call the Gresham Police Tip Line at 503-618-2719. Additionally, investigators are asking anyone who drove a vehicle with a dash mounted camera on Division near 190   Ave., between midnight and 9:30 a.m., on Dec 26, to check their camera to see if it recorded anything at that location.
