FATAL CRASH ON MIAMI FOLEY ROAD-TILLAMOOK COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Tuesday May 17, 2022 at approximately 11:00AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Miami Foley Road near New Miami River Rd.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound black Honda 500 motorcycle, operated by Adam Taylor (26) of Warrenton, on Miami Foley Road crossed into the northbound lane, colliding with a Ford F55, operated by Jose Hernandez (32) of Portland. Speed and motorcycle inexperience are being investigated as contributing factors to the collision.  Taylor sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Hernandez sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the Ford 55, Rosalio Herrera Morelos (54) of Vancouver, WA, was uninjured.   Miami Foley Road was closed for several hours following the crash.  OSP was assisted by the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Garibaldi Fire, Tillamook Ambulance, and Tillamook County Public Works.

HIT AND RUN INVESTIGATION

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On 05/17/2022 at approximately 9:00 PM law enforcement responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash near the intersection of Fruitdale Drive and Alexander Lane. The pedestrian victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.  The suspect vehicle left the scene heading outbound towards Rogue River. It is believed to be a 2008-2011 Kia Soul, silver in color with significant damage to the left/driver’s side. The vehicle should be missing a driver’s side mirror with additional damage to the front bumper and left fender.  Included is a stock photo similar to the suspect vehicle however not the actual vehicle.  Please contact the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office at 541-474-5123 with any information. 

Grants Pass Woman Arrested For Meth

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On Tuesday, May 17, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) arrested 42 year old Jessica Shoesmith of Grants Pass on drug related charges.     Shoesmith was stopped by a Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy on Canyon Creek Road near I-5 in Canyonville, at approximately 12:45 PM.  DINT detectives were also in the area, and contacted Shoesmith during the stop.  Drug detection K-9 “Trapper” checked the exterior of the vehicle and he alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from inside.     A search of the vehicle revealed approximately ½ pound of suspected methamphetamine.  Shoesmith was arrested, and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession, Manufacturing, and Attempted Delivery of Methamphetamine.

Rural Metro Fire - Josephine County 5/17/22, 18:06 hrs. (NEW HOPE) -- A kitchen fire mobilized a large firefighting response to the 6200 block of New Hope Road this evening.  First-arriving units from Rural Metro Fire found a well-involved kitchen, with heavy smoke filling the house.  With assistance from a Grants Pass Fire crew, the fire was controlled and a search was conducted to confirm the absence of any occupants.   It was confirmed the occupants were not home, but firefighters did located 13 out of 14 known cats that had been recently taken in as "rescues".  Many were kittens, and nearly all suffered from severe smoke inhalation.  Firefighters, along with medics from AMR-Josephine County, worked to revive the cats as they were brought out to the front yard.  Medical oxygen was delivered using specially designed masks for pets, and as a result a single 2-day-old kitten began showing signs of life.  Unfortunately the others did not survive. UPDATE: BODY POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED AS MISSING PERSON

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Friday, May 13, 2022, the vehicle of the missing person, 77-year-old Ralph Brown, was located in the Willamette River, near Roger’s Landing Boat Ramp in Yamhill County. Investigators found human remains in the vehicle after removing it from the river. A Yamhill County Deputy Medical Examiner was at the scene to conduct their investigation but could not immediately identify the remains. Today, May 17, 2022, a Deputy State Medical Examiner confirmed the remains located in the vehicle were Ralph Brown. Investigators say there were no signs of foul play. MAN ARRESTED AFTER INDECENT ACTS

Portland Police Bureau The Portland Police Bureau is seeking additional victims of a man arrested after committing indecent public acts in the Sunnyside and Laurelhurst Neighborhoods. On the morning of April 1, 2022, a woman was out walking her dog in the area of Southeast 35thAvenue and Southeast Stark Street when a man in a silver Volkswagen pulled up beside her. The man appeared to be trying to get her attention. The woman walked toward the car believing the man needed some assistance. When the woman got up to the car, she noticed the man's pants were down, and he was masturbating. The startled woman was able to get the vehicle's license plate number before fleeing the area. The officer who took this report recalled similar calls the previous day in which people did not necessarily want to make official reports, but were concerned enough to ask officers to search the area to discourage such behavior. BOMB THREAT SUSPECT ARRESTED IN GRANTS PASS

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. - Over the weekend, the Grants Pass Police Department received information about a possible bomb threat targeting the Grants Pass area. Detectives assumed the investigation and determined that 19-year-old Erik Pederson had made the threats. Erik Pederson was apprehended by police on May 16, 2022. During the investigation and apprehension of Erik Pederson, detectives also discovered other incidents that resulted in a search warrant being granted for Erik Pederson’s residence. Inside the residence police located evidence of animal abuse, chemicals, recipes for destructive devices, and equipment necessary for creating destructive devices.  Erik Pederson was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail. The charges against Erik Pederson include Menacing, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Animal Abuse in the First Degree (4 counts), and Attempted Manufacture of a Destructive Device.  There is no ongoing threat to the comm

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TOM TURNER

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office A memorial service is planned for Tom Turner on Tuesday, June 14 th , 2022.  Tom passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his home with family by his side. Tom served the citizens of Lane County as a public safety officer for over 40 years.  He started his career as a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Florence area in the early 1980’s.  He began employment with the Eugene Police Department shortly thereafter, where he continued to serve for over 20 years.  In 2006, Tom returned to the Sheriff’s Office where he went on to become the Lane County Sheriff.  He retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 2015 and accepted the position of Chief of Police at the Florence Police Department until his passing.  Tom served in a multitude of assignments throughout his career.  These assignments included police patrol, detectives, and SWAT commander.  Tom was an excellent leader and well-known for his cheerful personality.  He was rarely observed without a smile

Michael Edgar Bivins, 34, arraigned for arson, bias crimes, other charges

Multnomah County District Attorney's Office PORTLAND, Oregon – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Michael Edgar Bivins, 34, has been arraigned on 11 charges including one count of Arson in the First Degree, five counts of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and five counts of Bias Crime in the Second Degree.  The charges stem from incidents between April 30, 2022, and May 4, 2022. The incidents are as follows:  On April 30, Bivins allegedly smashed a large plate glass window at Shir Tikvah on Northeast Sandy Boulevard. The crime was captured on video surveillance. The estimated cost to replace the window exceeds $1,000.  On May 1, Bivins allegedly broke a window at Everybody Eats PDX, a Black-owned business, on Northwest 10th Avenue. The estimated cost to replace the window is approximately $1,800.  On May 2, Bivins allegedly vandalized the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue on Northwest Flanders Street by spray painting the words “Die Juden” o

Stolen Can-Am side-by-side ATV recovered - One suspect in custody

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office Thanks to the watchful eye of some citizens the stolen side-by-side has been recovered.  Yesterday LCSO received a call from a citizen indicating that they had observed two males attempting to use a Can-Am side-by-side ATV to get a suspicious truck unstuck from the sand near the Chapman sand road south of Florence.  The caller texted a picture of the side-by-side to LCSO dispatch at which time it was believed that it was the stolen side-by-side from earlier in the weekend.  Law enforcement personnel converged on the area and located the involved truck and one of the involved males, 29 year old Jessy Anthony Robles.  The truck was confirmed to be stolen and this male was taken into custody.  Around this time, another citizen called to report that they had seen someone driving the stolen ATV in the area.  The US Coast Guard Sector North Bend, with a helicopter in the area, spotted the stolen ATV in a brushy area nearby.  It was abandoned by this time.  Law e

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 20- LINN COUNTY

Oregon State Police On May 14, 2022 at approximately 4:45 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 20 near milepost 23.  Preliminary investigation revealed an eastbound red Mazda 3, operated by Robert Prettyman (33) of Brownsville, swerved across all lanes of traffic onto the westbound shoulder and then swerved back into the eastbound lanes. Upon reaching the eastbound lanes the vehicle collided head-on with a silver Nissan Versa, operated by Carl Curtis (79) of Huntington Beach, CA, that was attempting to avoid the Mazda.  Prettyman was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A four-year old child that was a passenger in Prettyman’s car was transported with critical injuries. Curtis and his passenger, Yvonne Levy (73) of Huntington Beach, CA, sustained fatal injuries and were both pronounced deceased.  Hwy 20 was closed for approximately 4 hours for OSP reconstructions to investigate. US FOREST SERVICE WORK CENTER IN SILTCOOS BURGLARIZED -- SIDE BY SIDE ATV STOLEN

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office Deputies and Troopers responded to an alarm at the US Forest Service work center in Siltcoos.  Upon arrival they discovered someone entered the building and stole a side by side ATV. The stolen side by side is a 2021 Can-Am Maverick 4-seater ATV.  It is black and tan in color.  This ATV belongs to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and was being stored at the work center at the time of the burglary.  The burglary was believed to have occurred just prior to 1:00am.  Funding for this equipment is provided through Oregon Parks and Recreation.  The Sheriff’s Office relies on this equipment for dune safety patrols, crash response, and search and rescue operations. VEHICLE OF MISSING PERSON, RALPH BROWN, LOCATED IN THE WILLAMETTE RIVER

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On the afternoon of Friday, May 13, 2022, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies learned the vehicle belonging to 77-year-old Ralph Brown, who was  reported missing  on May 16, 2021, was located in the Willamette River, near Roger’s Landing Boat Ramp. The vehicle was fully submerged and approximately 40 feet deep when a private company,  Adventures With Purpose , located it. Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies, detectives from their Special Investigation Unit (SIU), and Marine Patrol responded to the boat ramp after Adventures With Purpose notified them that they believed they had located the vehicle. Yamhill County deputies said Adventures With Purpose provided a license plate they pulled off the submerged car. A Yamhill County deputy confirmed the license plate belonged to Ralph Brown’s vehicle he was believed to have been driving when he went missing. POLICE IMPERSONATOR ARRESTED, ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT

Portland Police Bureau On Friday, May 7, 2022 at 8:14p.m., officers were working a special mission to address dangerous street racing/sliding activity when an officer observed what appeared to be a police vehicle with red and blue flashing lights pursuing another vehicle westbound on North Marine Drive approaching Kelly Point Park. After confirming no officers were involved, officers stopped the vehicle at North Simmons Road and North Lombard Street. They arrested the driver, Jonathan G. Bautista-Limon, 20. The investigation revealed Bautista-Limon had tried to stop another driver. The victim was suspicious that the vehicle was not a legitimate police officer and did not pull over until contacted by Portland Police officers. Bautista-Limon's black 2019 Dodge Charger had a police-style push bumper with flashing lights, interior windshield lights, and lights in the rear window (photos).
