Illegal Marijuana Task Force Busts Three Neighboring Properties With 113 Cannabis Greenhouses Combined; Code Enforcement Issues Fines Totaling $1.2 Million

Sheriff's Office   RURAL ROGUE RIVER, Ore. – Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) detectives served a search warrant at three neighboring properties growing and processing black-market cannabis last Thursday morning. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies, Oregon State Police Southwest Region Drug Enforcement Section team, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Medford assisted with the warrant service. Jackson County Code Enforcement issued a total of $1.249 million in fines to the property owners.   The three marijuana grow and processing facilities located on the 18400 block of East Evans Creek Road in rural Rogue River contained 113 greenhouses with approximately 8,675 black-market marijuana plants, 7,155 lbs. of processed illegal cannabis, and $46,000 cash. This case was the result of a months-long investigation of a black-market marijuana growing and processing operation. Detectives identified the primary suspects and investigations are ongoing.

Douglas Forest Protection Association Crews worked aggressively throughout the night, completing about 60% of dozer and hand dug control lines in steep terrain. Day shift rotated in and completed trailing the left flank and laying hose around the entire parameter of the fire. Live flames have been knocked down and growth has been contained to an estimated 8 acres. Afternoon shift began mop up and progress will continue into the night. Engines, hand crews, 2 tenders, a dozer, an excavator, and a fixed-wing air attack will report back to the fire tomorrow morning and mop up progress will continue for several days to come. Smoke may be visible in the area until all hotspots are contained.  We would like to thank CFPA, neighboring ODF districts, contract crews and industrial resources for their quick response and assistance with all aspects of fire suppression response on our district. FATALITY IN MULTIPLE VEHICLE TRAFFIC COLLISION

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  — Just before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, Salem Police patrol officers and other emergency responders were called to a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of  Silverton RD and Williams AV NE .  The preliminary investigation shows the driver of a Mazda sedan was on Williams AV and making a left turn onto Silverton RD when it was struck by a motorcycle rider traveling west on Silverton RD. The driver of the Mazda lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store where it struck the back end of an Audi sedan. The driver of the Mazda ultimately came to a stop when the vehicle crashed into the store’s front doors. The driver of the Mazda sedan, Caleb Elijah Johnson, age 18, and his passenger were transported to Salem Health with non-life-threatening injuries.  The motorcyclist, Jacob Steven Oliver, age 25, suffered critical injuries and was also transported to Salem Health. FIRE ON BOUNDARY ROAD IN LA PINE

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is currently in the area of Boundary Rd and Camino De Oro in the La Pine area for a reported house fire. The fire is reported to be spreading to nearby houses and to the wilderness.  The Sheriff’s Office has issued Level 3 evacuation notices to houses in the immediate area. The level 3 evacuation notice is for those between Camino De Oro north to Sparks Drive and Boundary Rd east to 2 nd  St.  Please avoid the area while fire crews are working to extinguish this fire. 

FORMER BEAVERTON MAYOR PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—Dennis “Denny” Doyle, the former mayor of Beaverton, Oregon, pleaded guilty today in federal court to illegally possessing child pornography. Doyle, 73, a Beaverton resident, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to a single count of possession of child pornography. According to court documents, between November 2014 and December 2015, Doyle knowingly and unlawfully possessed digital media containing child pornography. Several of the images Doyle possessed were of children under the age of 12 who had been identified as known sexually exploited minors by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). On March 3, 2022, Doyle was  charged  by criminal information with one count of possession of child pornography. Doyle will be sentenced on January 24, 2023, by U.S. District Court Judge Michael W. UNLAWFUL USE OF A FIREARM/ RECKLESS ENDANGERING

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On October 8, 2022, Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Shots Fired call in the 400 block of Ridge Vista Drive, Cave Junction. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that a 15 year-old female was practicing driving on her family’s private easement when a suspect fired multiple rounds at her vehicle.  The suspect was later identified as 44 year-old Naham Harris. During a consent search of Harris’ property, $103,000 and multiple firearms were located hidden in the wooded area on Harris’ property. The firearm used during the incident was not located. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office applied for a search warrant in an attempt to locate the firearm used.  On October 10, 2022, Detectives executed that warrant and found an additional firearm hidden and loaded for use. Douglas Forest Protection Association 𝐌𝐜𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞: In the early morning of Monday, October 10, 2022, at approximately 4:45 am, crews from Azalea Rural Fire Protection District and Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) responded to a ¼ of an acre brush fire located on Upper Cow Creek Road, near the Galesville Reservoir in Azalea, OR. Responding firefighters had the fire contained by 1 pm. Cause is currently under investigation. 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞: At approximately 3:30 pm, crews from Glendale Rural Fire Protection District and DFPA responded to a ¼ of an acre grass fire located on Brown Road in Glendale, OR. Fire was contained and the area was cleared by 5 pm. Cause is currently under investigation. FATAL CRASH ON LAUREL ROAD-JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Friday, October 9, 2022 at approximately 3:00 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash in the 2200 block of Laurel Road, approximately 2 miles east of Cave Junction. Preliminary investigation revealed a silver Ford Freestar van, operated by Jason Myers (23) of Grants Pass, left the roadway and struck a tree. The cause of the vehicle leaving the roadway is unknown. Myers was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  Laurel Road was closed for approximately 2 hours while Troopers investigated the scene. 

FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On October 8th, 2022, at 6:37 pm, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Thompson Creek Road. Prior to law enforcement arrival, the rider, Jacob Irison McNeil, was transported by American Medical Response to Three Rivers Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Witnesses at the scene stated McNeil and a second motorcycle were traveling northbound on Thompson Creek Road at a high rate of speed when McNeil failed to negotiate the turn onto Lakeshore Drive from Thompson Creek Road.  McNeil was thrown from his motorcycle when it left the roadway and struck a fence.  It is unknown if he was wearing a helmet. The second motorcycle left the scene prior to law enforcement arrival and has not been identified.   Next of kin has been notified. DEATH INVESTIGATION EAST OF BEND

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a suspicious death in the area of Los Serranos Drive in Bend. At approximately 5:30 AM DCSO deputies responded to the 21000 block of Los Serranos Drive in Bend for a reported deceased male. Upon the initial investigation the death was determined to be suspicious.  Law enforcement will likely be on scene for the day investigating this case. It is still early on in the investigation, so no further information is available at this time.  If you live in the area, please make sure your house, outbuildings, and vehicles are secured. SUBJECT SHOT BY PROPERTY CARETAKER AT GRANTS PASS STORAGE FACILITY

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, Ore. – At approximately 11:27 PM on Saturday, the Grants Pass Police Department began receiving calls regarding shouting coming from the U-Stow-It Mini Storage on Willow Lane. Callers reported hearing a subject shouting, “Get down, or I’ll shoot!” As officers responded, additional callers reported hearing multiple gunshots from the location. Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Robert Correa jr. near the location with numerous gunshot wounds. Officers provided immediate life-saving efforts before Correa was transported to the Three Rivers Medical Center, where he is reportedly in stable condition.  The caretaker for the U-Stow-It Mini Storage immediately surrendered to officers and cooperated with the investigation. The caretaker admitted to the shooting after attempting to place Correa under citizen’s arrest and then feeling his life was threatened. Ashland Man Convicted to Nearly 31 Years in Prison Yesterday for September 2020 Kidnapping, Rape, Assault of 18-Year-Old Medford Woman

Jackson County Sheriff's Office MEDFORD, Ore. - The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office announced yesterday that Christian Alexander Sanchez, 30, was sentenced to 370 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections for the rape, kidnapping, and physical assault of an 18-year-old Medford woman in September 2020. All 370 months are sentenced as Measure 11 time, meaning Sanchez is not eligible for good time, earned time, programs, or transitional leave. He will also be on life-time post-prison supervision and will have to register as a sex offender. Sanchez was convicted on September 16, by a Jackson County jury of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, three counts of second-degree assault, coercion, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, causing another person to ingest a controlled substance, and two counts of fourth-degree assault Domestic Violence. LA GRANDE MAN FACES FEDERAL CHARGES AFTER SEXUALLY ABUSING TWO MINORS HE MET ON SNAPCHAT

U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon PORTLAND, Ore.—A La Grande, Oregon man faces federal charges today after he sexually abused and transported across state lines two minors he met on Snapchat. Albert Wayne Johnson, 40, has been charged by criminal complaint with coercing and enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity and transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual conduct. According to court documents, on August 8, 2022, deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of two minors abandoned at Barton Park in Boring, Oregon. The children told the deputies they met Johnson on Snapchat and that he had driven them from Washington State through Idaho and into Oregon and had sexually abused both repeatedly during the trip. Along the way, Johnson stopped at a motel in Othello, Washington and a campground in La Grande where he continued abusing both children. Douglas Forest Protection Association On Thursday, October 6, 2022, at approximately 10:35 pm, crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Canyonville South Umpqua Fire District, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, Azalea Rural Fire Protection District, Riddle Fire Protection District, Tri City Rural Fire Protection District #4, and Douglas County Sherriff’s Office responded to a wildland fire located near Milepost Marker 95 (MP95) and Canyon Creek Road, between Canyonville and Azalea ORE. The currently estimated 4 – 6 acre fire is located just east of Interstate 5 (I5) in heavy, dead and downed timber on steep terrain, with limited accessibility. DFPA crews from all responding units worked throughout the night and have rotated into a day shift that includes additional resources from neighboring districts, fallers and Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA).  At this time, 40% of the fire has been contained, 60% trailed and 100% lined with hose. POLICE INVESTIGATE OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore.— Just before 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, Gresham police responded to the Extended Stay America Suites (formerly the WoodSpring Suites), located at 3013 NE 181 st Avenue. It was reported to police that room 207 had bullet holes in the door that appeared to come from inside of the room and go out through the door.  Once officers arrived at the hotel, they heard gunshots coming from a second-floor room, and officers began an evacuation plan for occupants of the second floor. Officers went upstairs, and a short time later, 34-year-old Joseph Carrillo, of Gresham, came out of the motel room into the hallway, armed with a handgun, and pointed it at police. One Gresham officer fired their weapon and Carrillo fell to the ground. Carrillo was quickly taken into custody and checked for injuries. It was determined Carrillo was not injured by gunfire. Suspect Arrested After Special Victims Unit Detectives Investigate Child Sex Abuse

Jackson County Sheriff's Office JCSO Case 22-4782 WHITE CITY, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies arrested a sex abuse suspect Tuesday night during a traffic stop on the 8300 block of Crater Lake Highway in White City. The driver was wanted in connection with sex abuse of a child. The suspect, Kim Jackson Dyer, 71, of White City, was charged with six counts of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree attempted sodomy, and coercion. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail.  JCSO Special Victims Unit (SVU) detectives began investigating Dyer after a juvenile victim came forward with allegations of sex abuse that occurred over a span of years. FATAL CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5-JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at approximately 3:56 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 2.  Preliminary investigation revealed a southbound silver BMW 135I, operated by Nathan Dickinson (22) of San Jose, CA, left the roadway and rolled multiple times prior to striking an embankment. Prior to the crash the vehicle was observed at a high rate of speed.  Dickinson was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  OSP as assisted by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Mercy Flight, Ashland Fire and Rescue and ODOT.
