Two Men Seriously Injured After Plane Crashes Outside Hillsboro

April 26, 2018 – Two men were seriously injured after their plane crashed into an orchard outside of Hillsboro. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are investigating.
On April 26, 2018, at 4:18 p.m., Washington County dispatch received information from the Hillsboro Airport regarding an approaching aircraft experiencing engine trouble. At 4:20 p.m., dispatch received reports of a plane crash in the 1000 block of Southwest 331st Avenue outside of Hillsboro.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with deputies serving the City of Cornelius, responded and located a single-engine Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft that had crashed into an orchard. Deputies climbed onto the aircraft and rendered first aid to two male occupants until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded, stabilized the plane, and extracted the occupants, ages 73 and 88, from the aircraft. One patient was transported by Life Flight helicopter and the second by Metro West Ambulance to local hospitals. They are listed in serious condition.
There were no injuries or property damage on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were notified and are investigating.
