Twelve Year Old Boy Dies in Crash on I-82

Oregon State Police - 05/09/18 

On May 8, 2018 at approximately 7:15 PM, Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on I-82 near MP 4.
Preliminary investigation indicted a silver MAZDA MPV, driven by Raymond Ramone Dick Shippentower (age 32 from Pendleton) was westbound on I-82. The van veered off the road and rolled over in the median. One of the passengers was a 12 year old male suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other passengers were identified a Christina Marie Leyva (age 38 from Pendleton) and a three year old female.
All of the other passengers received minor or non-life threatening injuries. Wind and rain are being considered as contributing factors of the crash.
OSP was assisted by Fire District #1, Umatilla Fire Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation. I-82 was restricted to one lane for three and a half hours while the investigation was being completed.
