Rice Creek Fire

Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Winston – Dillard Fire Department responded to a reported hay field on fire about three miles south of Winston, shortly before noon on Friday. Fire fighters arrived on scene of the fire, located in the 1,000 block of Rice Creek Road, and stopped the blaze at 1/4 acre of grass and cut hay. Crews remained on scene of the Rice Creek Fire for about an hour, mopping up hot spots. A preliminary investigation of the Rice Creek Fire indicated that the fire was caused by equipment working in the hay field.
The Rice Creek Fire was the first wild fire to occur within the Douglas District after the official start of the 2018 fire season, which began Friday morning at 12:01 a.m.
