Sunriver area man's body recovered from Deschutes River

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office - 06/22/18

On 06/21/2018 at about 8:32 p.m., Deschutes County 911 received a call from a subject who reported her roommate jumped into the Deschutes River about 45 minutes prior and had not been seen since.  Five Deschutes County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the area in an attempt to locate the male in and along the river.  Upon arrival, deputies learned the male had been at the boat launch with his brother and decided to swim across the river but got swept downriver and was struggling with the current.  The current carried him around a bend in the river and his brother lost sight of him.  The brother checked the area and after not finding him, returned to their home and notified their roommate, who then called 911.
Deschutes County Search and Rescue (SAR) was requested and approximately 15 SAR Swift Water Rescue members and divers responded to the area to assist, along with two additional deputies in a sheriff's office jet boat.
At about 9:37 p.m. a deputy located the deceased male about 500 yards down river from the boat launch, caught on a snag on the opposite side of the river.  The male was recovered by SAR Swift Water members, placed on the jet boat and transported back to the boat launch.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Deschutes County 911 at 541-693-6911.
Foul play is not suspected but alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.
